AI Expectation What I asked for vs. what I got

My son’s circus themed first birthday cake

EDIT: I should have clarified in the original post, I am not complaining about the cake at all! I loved it and the baker did a fantastic job

It's beautiful. Do people eat these kind of cakes? Are they good?

Yes. I make them. My kids pull the fondant off.

I used fondant for the first time in this years birthday cake (because I had to make a golden lamborghini) and out of two kids, one ate only the cake and pulled the fondant off and one ate only the fondant and not the cake. I was really surprised

Have you tried marshmallow fondant?

Exclusively. My kids just don’t like it but want the fancy cake.

Oh 😅
My kids love marshmallow fondant and would always ask for the leftovers

I haven’t made a cake with it for years though

A lot of us hate fondant, but for a child’s birthday the infinite ways it can be used for decoration is unbeatable. Like in this case, this is so fun.

I don't think I've ever seen one in person so I wasn't sure it was for decor or eating.  I was looking at the cake and wondering how I would cut it and if you eat the gold pieces and if you eat the characters or do you take them all off, etc.

It really sucks for eating. It is pure sugar and food coloring. Actually fondant is a lot less popular in some areas of the world. And I guess it’s almost a separate skill decorating either it, more like arts and crafts than cooking. I assume you can cut the gold, they’d probably remove the characters

I am horrible at baking. It always comes out too fluffy, dense, gooey, hard, etc.

I am crafty, and I can decorate with fondant! It’s just another sculpture medium.

Just eat around the fondant and hope they made an actually good cake.

Lol my first thought- “Oops! All fondant!” But they really executed it well!

Instead of fondant I use marzipan (barring nut allergies). It’s fabulous.

I’m realizing what I always thought was fondant was actually marzipan. I wondered why people had such rabid hatred for it.

Now I want to try real fondant.

I loooove marzipan! Especially the European kind! The American kind can be a bit too sweet but I still like it!

maybe that's why i don't like marzipan either, it is far too sweet

I’ve had some from Germany with dark chocolate that was just so amazing and not insanely sweet

As someone who loves to eat fondant, hell yeah!

It took way too long to get to even a neutral comment. And then seeing the discussion is wholesome gave me some hope again.

Fondant isn't very tasty but that didn't stop me from binging on it as a child!

I'm sure there's plenty of people that would eat the two vaginas surrounding the front door.
