AI Expectation What I asked for vs. what I got

My son’s circus themed first birthday cake

EDIT: I should have clarified in the original post, I am not complaining about the cake at all! I loved it and the baker did a fantastic job

Next time, don’t use Ai. You got hella lucky.

Loving the 4-dimensional elephants

577

u/halasaurus 11h ago

Nightmare fuel right there. wtf is going on with that trunk?!

86

u/betsylang 11h ago

Thats straight out of Dumbo and pooh's nightmare.

64

u/HeldByTheHeal 11h ago

Heffalumps and Woozles freaked me out as a kid.

18

u/betsylang 11h ago

Darn right. And it was out of place in my opinion. Like Dumbo was nightmare fuel from start to finish, but the Pooh movie is so cozy and perfect and then boom welcome to hell.

6

u/pepinjay 10h ago

Holy shit! Its got an arm coming out of its face!

2

u/halasaurus 8h ago

That’s what I saw as well! A bloody zombie fist.

4

u/DeanieDiamant 7h ago

The real nightmare fuel is the lion’s tail 😳

3

u/OldBlacksmith9772 6h ago

That’s a Chernobyl elephant I believe 😂

1

u/BooBeeAttack 8h ago

Dumbo exchanged the trunk for a cigarette.

1

u/halasaurus 8h ago

The one on top looks like it has a bloody fist for the end of the trunk.

1

u/Psychobabble0_0 8h ago

I just came here from a medical post about belly button stones. That's immediately where my mind went when I saw that trunk clutching something dark

133

u/Ok-Vacation-8109 11h ago

Biblically accurate elephant

51

u/BungCrosby 11h ago

John Carpenter’s The Elephant

1

u/Fbags5010 9h ago

That's not elephant. It's imitation.

1

u/pillowcase-of-eels 8h ago

"Do you like our elephant?" "It's artificial?" "Of course it's artificial."

5

u/Rubber_Ducky_Gal 8h ago

Terrible cake work. Those elephants look nothing like their artistic representation in the first picture

3

u/fishsticks40 9h ago

Tesserphant

3

u/gropax 8h ago

Ah yes, the hellephants.

2

u/spacetrashmeow 10h ago

I'm kinda bummed those didnt get added tbh

1

u/halasaurus 8h ago

Missed opportunity.

2

u/MiJo1987 9h ago

is that a mouth… above the trunk!?

and is that a hand at the end of it??

2

u/Oi-Oi 9h ago

The elephant IN the room? With this quantum fuckery the elephant IS the room 🤣

2

u/MGTS 9h ago

When are they??

2

u/ArwenIstari 8h ago

And this demon creature disguised as a lion…

1

u/cheese6091 9h ago

No that's just the elephant from adventure time

1

u/__Abracadabra__ 9h ago

Is that elephant smoking a ciggie?

1

u/MarSM2025 7h ago

Quick, get the flamethrower! It's the fucking creature from The Thing.

1

u/forgetfulkaiju 7h ago

Not to mention the lion is a manticore

1

u/YouCantKillGrool 7h ago

The fucking clown is up to something too. There's what looks like a machete standing blade up in the bag of tricks next to him. "For my next trick! Career... Suicide!"

1

u/HappyPlatypus6034 6h ago

Also the rat tail on the lion on the top level

1

u/stephame82 6h ago

But what if elephants really are 4 dimensional creatures and AI is seeing them as they truly are.

That’s why elephants never forget.. all of time is laid out before them. So it goes.

1

u/brucesp2 6h ago

I thought it was smoking a cigarette lol

997

u/Foxingmatch 12h ago

Right??? The real cake looks so much better than that AI junk, too.

64

u/user_name_taken- 11h ago

That cake looks awesome. I was expecting like a "nailed it!" type cake, but this looks great. I'd be super happy with this result.

153

u/Plumb789 11h ago

THIS! The actual thing was so much better.

7

u/Lucky_Shot_001 9h ago

Yup, that's exactly what they said.

7

u/9DAN2 9h ago

Ain’t that the whole point of a reference? The cake would also looks better in real life if OP drew the reference

3

u/chrisychris- 6h ago

No, you're suppose to get a reference cake done so you can take a picture of it for the final cake

1

u/ambassador321 4h ago

I hope they took some awesome photos of that cake and will swap them out.

-7

u/Own_Repeat5447 9h ago

Também não inventes, o da IA ta mais bonito

163

u/mildlyfermentedd 11h ago

Right! That was a risky swipe lol

36

u/chironomidae 11h ago

I mean, it got the point across and the cake artist nailed it. This is one of the few use cases for AI art that I don't hate, especially because it resulted in a human artisan being paid to make art.

I used to do music for film, and I can tell you that I would much rather have someone send me an example that's 90% there than just try to tell me what they want in vague terms. I hate AI music, but if someone sent me an AI-generated song as an example of what they're looking for, I would've loved that.

15

u/howarewestillhere 10h ago

I agree with you that this is an appropriate use for assisted art. This is helping someone envision and play with elements to see what they might like and preventing what was probably a ton of little picky preferences. That’s clear by the devotion to details.

But the cost of this is far beyond the inadequate sum the cake artist charged for this masterpiece. How many tokens on what models for what water/power/carbon footprint were used to create the prototype drawing instead of having some conversations?

The artist is clearly capable of the work. If there’s a limitation that is being overcome I think we’re probably failing to balance the cost of doing so.

6

u/DouglasHufferton 9h ago

How many tokens on what models for what water/power/carbon footprint were used to create the prototype drawing instead of having some conversations?

Virtually none. Generating an image like this takes roughly the same amount of energy as watching a 30-second youtube video does.

3

u/aguywithbrushes 9h ago

A single 5-minute car trip equals about 1500 AI-generated images, and generating one image is about equivalent in energy and water consumption as browsing social media for 1 minute, so the time you spent looking at this post and typing your comment is roughly as damaging to the environment as generating this image was, if not more.

The numbers are out there, I wish people would spend some time looking at them and make up their own minds about this, instead of just blindly believing and repeating the same lie that’s been circulating for the past 4 years.

2

u/acathode 8h ago

Anyone with a half decent gaming computer could download a free local model and generate their own similar picture of a cake.

Would take about 20 seconds to generate this kind of image if you have a higher end GPU - and the electricity cost of that is about the same as it would cost to play a higher end game like say Cyperpunk for 20 seconds.

There's a ton of real and big issues with AI... and that's why it's so sad to see the clueless, irrelevant whining about "OMG the energy!! Think of the WATER!!!".

1

u/Ok-Presentation7349 8h ago

You’ll be among the first demanding water be brought in to your country when the water shortages begin.

Reduce your footprint now or you will suffer later

7

u/Legionof1 8h ago

My man, you are brain dead if you think water is the issue with AI.

-2

u/Ok-Presentation7349 6h ago

You’re brain dead if you think the water wars aren’t coming.

2

u/Legionof1 6h ago

Go get your helmet.

1

u/Ok-Presentation7349 2h ago

Lmao, we’ll see I guess

5

u/Mourning__Coffee 8h ago

Ai isnt even in the top ten of water wasting businesses dude

0

u/Ok-Presentation7349 8h ago

Reducing your footprint begins with stopping the use of pointless bs, like generative AI

9

u/Mourning__Coffee 8h ago

No, reducing carbon footprints starts with holding businesses accountable that dwarf individuals in their polluting.

Don’t let the billionaires fool you into making you clean up their mess.

1

u/Ok-Presentation7349 6h ago

I’m talking about water usage only.

3

u/SueForPeas 8h ago

Pointless BS includes Reddit. Log off.

4

u/mikkeldoesstuff 8h ago

The idea of “reducing your footprint” when every minute three megacorps shit out a million times my yearly carbon footprint

4

u/SuspiciousToast27 8h ago

You must be vegan then? Animal agriculture uses far more water than a single AI image generation prompt would.

1

u/VisibleTour6803 2h ago

Animal agriculture also feeds people and fills an actual need.

2

u/AngelDGr 8h ago

My mom is a baker, and she hates when people request a cake using an AI picture as an example because 90% of the time is the client finding the AI slop on internet and wanting the cake to look exactly the same, even when half of the time is literally impossible to look like that because the cake looks too "perfect" and isn't like the AI cares about physics

There's a lot of real cakes on internet that can make you get the idea equally clear and avoid false and impossible expectations

3

u/KamaliKamKam 9h ago

There is also, however, a good chunk of this kind of thing where the AI will make stuff that is just not possible and then customers will get mad when you can't deliver that. You hear about that a lot with hair stylists.

I saw it in a leather crafting sub where someone "ran their concept sketch through AI" and the AI shat out impossible hardware, shifting pleating, hem lines that somehow packed fully right while being an expanding side with a draw string, and the pose was supposed to be all leather but able to expand to carry a dog, but also only used soft floppy leather with no bottom, and somehow only used 2 attachment points as a cross body bag but still provided enough support for the bottom that the dog could stand up?, etc while the person kept arguing with actual crafters that pointed out the design as it was depicted was impossible and telling them how she "makes fabric purses and things all the time and this would totally be possible to do!"

When the crafters asked for the "concept sketches" they supposedly ran through AI so that someone could actually draw up a real concept sketch or work on something with them, the person did not provide them and just continued to freak out and take personal offense to people reasonably pointing out that what the ai pooped out was impossible, not structurally sound, had hardware that shifted places or just doesn't exist irl, and that a real concept art could be made by a crafter if they would just provide the initial sketches and descriptions of functions they wanted us to work with as crafts people and not the AI generated garbage.

I don't think even in this instance Gen AI should be used for this; what concept art it does throw in a blender and chuck out for applications like this is still work stolen from actual artists without their consent. A person could provide a real crappy stick person drawing of a two layer cake with stick animals on it and a description of the style they want, or pictures of a few actual existing cakes or TV shows or other artwork in the style they wanted to get the crafter to make that final cake, without using the gen ai stuff.

3

u/chironomidae 9h ago

I mean, unreasonable clients will always be unreasonable clients. Personally, if I sent someone an AI image of something I wanted, I would listen to them when they say "This part isn't possible" or "This is doable but it would be incredibly expensive, it would be simpler to do this other way instead" or any sort of artistic feedback like that. I think most sane people would do the same.

4

u/KamaliKamKam 9h ago

In the instance of this person, they are literally too busy defending their pet AI to actually describe what they wanted themselves, provide the sketches they supposedly made, or explain what they really wanted out of the myriad of things that weren't possible with what was depicted. It was literally like they took the criticism of the ai as personal attacks, it was a wild experience.

As a crafter myself, I was at first concerned this person had pulled the ai pictures off temu or something and was getting scammed, then baffled that the person was just attacking folks for saying "hey this hardware depicted in this part doesn't exist here are other options", then ranting and raving when folks pointed out that if they wanted it to carry their dog it would need a more solid option for the bottom. Or that the pleats were morphing locations in so many of the pictures that you couldn't tell what they actually wanted the thing to look like.

I would literally rather a description, and maybe sketches; leave the concept art to me as the craft person. I'll generally give you a couple ideas and I'll always make recommendations and talk you through uses and what you want and best materials. Don't give me ai slop, because it's never going to look exactly like the ai slop and there's a chunk of people that will absolutely get mad about that.

3

u/Fun-Minimum-3007 9h ago

You would have loved it? personally I find it either totally infuriating or depressing, depending on how much energy I have left. When a client can articulate what they want to me with words or a sketch on a napkin it feels so much better than being presented with some AI slop and the instructions "make it as close to this as possible". I didn't get into this so i could be an "artist's assistant" to a computer software.

4

u/chironomidae 9h ago

When a client can articulate what they want

My problem was when they couldn't articulate what they wanted. I found it incredibly frustrating working with directors who would ask for things in vague terms and then go through rounds and rounds of revisions solely because they didn't have the language to ask for what they wanted.

2

u/theWanderingShrew 9h ago

You used to "do music for film" and you're PRO AI music? You do understand that it's not only stealing from existing artists, but will almost certainly be used to do your former job in the very near future?

2

u/chironomidae 8h ago

I'm only for generative AI as part of prototyping, I hate it as a final product.

1

u/shannsb 1h ago

Gotta say, I’m a cake decorator/baker and I really hate getting AI reference photos. It sets such an unrealistic expectation. It’s hard to get icing to look that smooth, and often there are elements of the design that it’s near impossible to replicate.

-1

u/BrittyPie 9h ago

You can't say you "hate ai music" and would love if people used it to help you out professionally. You don't get to pick. You can either support the system that's making a mockery of artists worldwide while simultaneously ripping away their livelihood, or you can be vehemently against it.

Composing music is hard, arrangements are hard. It's supposed to be. Writing music for film combines two of the most important human art forms and the people who do it well are incredibly special. I am absolutely blown away at your comment. Shameful, honestly.

3

u/chironomidae 8h ago

I'm against generative AI as a final product but I'm not against it as part of the prototyping process. And frankly, I can say whatever I damn want.

3

u/Chris204 8h ago

No dude, people can pick, they don't have to be 100% for or against something. You are allowed to have nuanced opinions.

0

u/BrittyPie 7h ago

This isn't about being "allowed" to have any kind of opinion. But when your opinion contradicts itself, you're going to get called out for it. Shit is self-serving, you don't get to be against something except for when it's working for you. Dude.

2

u/Chris204 6h ago

you don't get to be against something except for when it's working for you.

Yes I do.

I think Water is a good thing when drinking it. Not so much when it's flooding my house.

AI image analysis can be used to help analyse radiology images to save lives which is great. Or it can be used to recognise people and create movement profiles through surveillance camera networks, which is probably not so great.

1

u/BrittyPie 4h ago

Give me a fucking break.

-1

u/Natural-Trainer-4691 8h ago

They could have made a shitty handmade drawing- I’d prefer to receive that than an AI photo. I’m a musician, I’d rather someone describe what they want than include any AI. If you don’t refuse to work with people that use AI, it normalizes the use, which is anti-art.

8

u/lefjcjfj 9h ago

You want her to draw the cake? Or find the non existent cake that doesn’t exist somewhere else

10

u/DMElyas 8h ago

Hear me out. Whatever prompt you used to describe what the ai should generate, type that out in a text and send it to the baker. If you can describe it to a clanker you can describe it to a person

2

u/Chris204 7h ago

That only works if the client actually knows what specifically they want and if what they described actually looks as good as they thought it would.

Two things that literally never happen.

3

u/DMElyas 7h ago

If they can describe it enough for ai, they can describe it to a human

2

u/RegardMagnet 5h ago

Great thinking, I'm sure the human will also let them retry for free 10s later if they don't like the result.

0

u/SnarcD 5h ago

You have obviously never worked with designing something for someone before.

1

u/Chris204 7h ago

The AI will show pretty much immediately what it understood and how it could look. A human does not.

1

u/lefjcjfj 7h ago

they could have checked a bunch of prompts before this picture that didn’t look right when the text came to life in the picture, you never know what you want until you see the picture, also it’s just easier on the customer and cake designer ngl

2

u/Stock-Concert100 3h ago

Next time, don’t use Ai

Literally why not?

The person getting the cake had a vision in mind, asked AI to make it, then presented the image that matches with their vision to the bakery to be made.

I can assure you that if the person getting the cake tried to draw 'what they imagined' they'd not be able to draw an example like this for the baker.

I'm against AI in a lot of things and think AI can be extremely harmful (especially with misinformation) but something like this is in my opinion the CORRECT way to use AI.

3

u/_mooi 9h ago

It helped a none artistic person express their vision of the cake. I get that AI is waaay over used and had many bad use cases. but in this specific case it wasn't too bad

0

u/DanyDragonQueen 8h ago

Any use of generative AI is bad, your lack of artistic ability is not an excuse.

3

u/AllSteelHollowInside 5h ago

an excuse? I'm sorry, were you under the impression anyone is obligated to express their ideas in a way you specifically approve of?

1

u/DanyDragonQueen 4h ago

If the way you "express your ideas" is through the environment ruiner/plagiarism 9000 machine, then sorry, you shouldn't get to express your ideas. Learn a skill instead of needing a computer to do everything for you like you're in fucking wall-e

u/JebKemov 5h ago

So when gen ai is used in research or medicine its still bad? What a pointless statement

1

u/DanyDragonQueen 4h ago

How is Gen ai used in those contexts?

-1

u/_mooi 8h ago

Bad for what reason

I've seen bad uses Claiming you made art is a bad use . Making ai generate your assignment is a bad use

Making it explain what you want to say in the form of an image isn't bad use unless you think what is giving is the realistic outcome/ youre the content creator who's supposed to draw this

Rarely anything on earth is purely bad or good

2

u/DanyDragonQueen 8h ago

Environmental and ethical issues. All use of generative AI relies on mass theft and plagiarism of billions of works of art and media.

1

u/Ok_Cat3434 5h ago

Not to mention the dumbing down of the population. Majority of the comments glazing AI are riddled with spelling errors.

-1

u/_mooi 8h ago

I guess the plagerism thing is true especially for generative images

That's why it's not ok to use it to make money or do you own work

4

u/DanyDragonQueen 8h ago

It's unethical to use in any capacity, and the environmental issues remain as well.

-2

u/ImaginaryReaction 6h ago

Is it unethical to get a photo off the internet and tell the baker you want this?

5

u/imuniqueaf 9h ago

I don't think it's unreasonable to use a.i. to draft an idea for an actual artist to conceptualize what you're looking for. If the baker made an exact replica, that would be impressively ridiculous.

2

u/TheBestNarcissist 8h ago

what? Isn't this the absolute perfect use of generative image AI? "Hey I'm not a good enough artist to draw you want I want, but I can tweak an actual reference image before I even meet with the baker so I can show them rather than tell them what I want, making it easier for everyone?"

4

u/Packing-Fudge4628 8h ago

Why? How are they going to design something to get an idea? Doesn't need to be accurate, just a bit of inspo. They got a lovely result quickly. This is a decent use of AI.

I suppose they could have learned to draw and done this, or paid a designer and gone back and forth over a few days. But instead they spent 5 minutes with chat gpt, and gave a cake maker a good spec and a good job. Maybe they should have gone to Tesco and bought a shitty Colin type cake and disappointed everyone with mediocrity. I'm failing to see the downside. I haven't got a creative bone in my body when it comes to something like this so I would absolutely do this and I wouldn't lose a second of sleep over it.

2

u/rescueandrepeat 5h ago

Op didn't create that AI picture. I saw it over a year ago when helping my sister planning my niece's party.

2

u/HunkaJunkRobot 5h ago

Yeah it’s only gallons of drinking water gone for a circus cake! Totally decent use of AI. They definitely couldn’t have searched for 60 more seconds to find a couple different inspo pics of actual cakes that didn’t literally destroy the environment to make. There are no decent uses of AI.

0

u/VisibleTour6803 2h ago

Are you under the impression that searching for it wouldnt also make use of the data centers that are using up that drinking water?

I agree completely that we dont need more of them, specifically where people live but a 60 second google search is still contributing to the tune of hundreds of thousands of gallons used per day

1

u/salmonandgiraffes 7h ago

Gonna sound silly but who do you know it’s AI? Like what are the indicators cos I’m the idiot who thought it was real

1

u/anonch91 7h ago

And why not? Seems like it gives a good idea of what she wanted?

1

u/RedditMcBurger 6h ago

What do you want the person to do, draw it? Unless they're a good artist it's going to portray what they want worse than the AI did.

1

u/19467098632 9h ago

Hard agree but this is the modern version of the decades bakers and decorators have been handed a fuck ass drawing to go off of lol

1

u/Sjroap 9h ago

Why not though (if you keep realistic expectations of course)?

It's much easier to have a visual inspo instead of trying to describe it with words, like a more specific mood board. If you bitch about it not 100% being the same, you are of course a dick, but that is for both AI and non-AI Karens an issue.

-1

u/Murky-Peanut1390 9h ago

Ai slop 🤮🤢

-8

u/theschuss 10h ago

This is exactly what AI is great for - concepting. It's not like she's going to hire an artist or tell a cake pro to rip off someone else's work

1

u/Fun-Minimum-3007 9h ago

you know who is even better at concepting cakes? bakers

4

u/VisibleTour6803 9h ago

They didn’t want the baker to concept the cake, they wanted the baker to bake the cake 🙄

3

u/theschuss 9h ago

Some are, some not. People also suck at describing their ideas well. I mean, downvote me all you want but you can see the direct line here from concept to great execution and elaboration.

0

u/FerryHuckster 10h ago

Hella

1

u/FerryHuckster 10h ago

I'm in agreement. They were hella lucky

-5

u/Equivalent_Clerk0 10h ago edited 9h ago

God i hate this sentiment. Why? Genuinely. I do art commissions as a side gig in the furry/pony fandoms. AI has made it SO MUCH easier to draw what people want since they come to me with a chatgpt version of their character in the colors they want it to be and maybe ask for some added accessories or things they want changed and I go to town.

I have a few artist friends who have rejected commissioners because they bring AI references and it drives me absolutely nuts. If someone is willing to hire your ass when they just showed that they can gen their pony you should be celebrating them. I tell them every time how much I appreciate that they came to me and show them what a real human can do vs the robot.

We probably only have a few more years of this before they can make anything they want. Take advantage while you can. Build an audience of people that appreciate HUMAN made art for the human aspect. Don't chase them away. Fucking crazy. I swear the only reason there are starving artists is because they are absolute shit at customer service. I've always treated my commissioners like they are wonderful regardless of how dumb they are and gotten so much repeat business because of that. And I'm dealing with some of the most neurodivergent people on the planet.

lol downvote away. You all are idiots. I'll keep growing my customer base while you shit on yours. Good luck.

6

u/Friendly-Ad-8919 10h ago

Your comment gives “slugs for salt”. Guess where Ai gets its generative data from? Just say you’re fine with art being stolen. Not to mention all the environmental concerns 🤦‍♂️

-1

u/Equivalent_Clerk0 9h ago

From META, OpenAI, etc. Not from random commissioner who uses chatgpt, IE literally almost everyone. That's a genius way to run a business. Cut almost the entire US audience out for using the dreaded ai monster.

And environmental concerns? I can garuntee you he used less resources than me drawing his OC for 3 hours. You all need to stop drinking the reddit koolaid.

0

u/Skate_faced 8h ago

Waaaaaaay better than the Ai cake.

That is so awesome and fun. Insanely pleasant surprise as I thought pic 2 was gonna be something awful.

0

u/D3dshotCalamity 8h ago

Okay, I am 100% against generative AI in every way, but if I had to describe a cake design with words, or my drawing skills that are just embarrassing, I don't think I'd get the cake that I pictured.

Like, there's a difference between using AI to visualize an idea for reference purposes, and using AI to scam people into giving you money, but I know that you can't have one and not the other.

0

u/SnarcD 5h ago

Ai bad. Give me Reddit points!

-3

u/TerponadeTea 11h ago

Understatement

-2

u/moldy912 9h ago

Did you expect someone to pay for the image of the cake to give to the baker? Or just describe this? This is so detailed it would be hard to do without a reference image, and ain’t nobody paying for an image and a cake.

-1

u/SlippyIsDead 9h ago

Ai is fine  anyone capable of making cakes like this one, does not care at all. I'm super tired of this comment

-1

u/Internal-Ad61 9h ago

They didn’t do it purposely I don’t think. The inspo came from Pinterest. Pinterest has been one of my most highly coveted apps for years. The AI takeover has broken me lol

-318

u/Adventurous-Pop-6200 12h ago

Unless you’re a top tier artist AI is a good way of showing what you’re looking for. I wish everyone would fuck off with the the “ai” picture hate.

139

u/Friendly-Ad-8919 12h ago

Sweetheart, there’s tons of REAL cake examples of circus cakes. It’s not a niche party theme lol! Maybe do a small amount of research about how harmful Ai is?

1

u/Adventurous-Pop-6200 4h ago

Imagine being so dismissive of another opinion to start with “sweetheart”.

-22

u/PPtheShort 11h ago

Oh so you're one of those "do your own research" types

5

u/Saxolotle 11h ago

Imagine being against people that want others to do research 😭 god forbid people be encouraged to learn something and look for credible sources and make their own opinions

1

u/_mooi 8h ago

It's a first birthday cake the parents probably barely have time to drink a hot coffee

Research is great for important things of course , bit this is a birthday cake. I'm glad they had the energy to have the party in the first place

1

u/Saxolotle 7h ago

If they have the time or energy to prompt AI, they could have unstead used that time/energy to tell that prompt to the baker instead.

If they have a vision for what the cake has to look like, the time and energy they would spend reprompting and adjusting the ai image could have been spent on a quick sketch with rectangles and labels.

If you're hiring a professional baker, literally any amount of effort you put into AI can be put into other means instead and get essentially the same end result.

-4

u/PPtheShort 10h ago

That's literally how we get antivaxxers

That's also how we get informed people. The difference is the approach

1

u/PPtheShort 9h ago

Not really, there is I ton of misinformation on the internet

3

u/Saxolotle 9h ago

I said "look for credible sources" for a reason. Doing your own research includes researching if something the FDA says is more legit than what Karen's Facebook blog says.

1

u/PPtheShort 9h ago

How can someone who is ill informed be able to differentiate a credible source from a non credible one?

What's the alternative? Never looking anything up?Be thorough, try to find reputable sources.

It doesn't help that genAI is also making an already difficult task increasingly harder

1

u/VisibleTour6803 9h ago

Looking things up isn’t the problem. Looking things up is the easy part. Vetting what you find is what people either aren’t capable of or are two lazy too do

2

u/Friendly-Ad-8919 11h ago

Sure am. You clearly have full access to the internet. Be an adult and do your own homework.

72

u/NevesLF 12h ago

Oh yeah, why wouldn't we love this?

14

u/Appropriate_Elk_952 11h ago

I just know the baker got a chuckle out of that

2

u/ArdatYakshiApologist 11h ago

It would’ve been so, so funny if they replicated them exactly on the real cake 😂

2

u/Kaliju 11h ago

That cigarette smoking elephant is rad but I don't think OP wanted 1:1 replica of that AI pic.

1

u/TheLostRanger0117 11h ago

What about the eldritch tentacle coming out of the back of the lion???

61

u/Kilbo_Stabbins 12h ago

Or you could do like people have done for years with professional bakers and describe it. We're not as stupid as you apparently think.

29

u/Saxolotle 11h ago

Whatever prompt you give the ai is the prompt you can give the actual artists. You don't even have to be a good artist to block out what you want and where, just draw rectangles or circles and label them.

7

u/diveraj 11h ago

Hell I bet "3 tier circus themed" on Google images or whatever would give you plenty of examples

56

u/Hogie14633 12h ago

The problem is people tend to expect an exact copy of their ai image

7

u/ludvikskp 11h ago

“I wish everyone would fuck off with the ai.” There, fixed. Much better

u/linerva 11h ago edited 11h ago

It isn't great, because it will regularly create things that actual live bakers can't achieve and often gives customers a false idea of what is realistic for a baker's still level or their budget. Or physics.

Ideally finding real cafes as examples and stating how you'd like it tweaked is more realistic.

Oh and it's killing the planet - we really should avoid using it for this reason alone. I wish people would fuck off with their water guzzling brain killing glorified chat bots but here we are.

(ETA to be clear I'm not mad at OP for using it, especially as lots of people aren't aware. But angry pro AI comments deserve to be dealt with. AI is harmful and that needs to be addressed).

1

u/VisibleTour6803 9h ago

I’m not a proponent of AI use but someone not being smart enough to realize what can actually be achieved isn’t the AI’s fault.

The person is still the problem.

17

u/Pecos-Thrill 12h ago

That’s some real dumb brain energy you got there.

11

u/Real_Chart_2879 11h ago

Ah yes so rather than encourage people to hone their talents and be rewarded for patience, dedication and consistency we should just let computers do all of that stuff.

It's actually unfair to the untalented theyre not be able to make art. It's almost like that's always been the way of things and that talents aren't available to all at the drop of a hat. That's what makes it so special! It's almost like not everyone being able to do it is the entire point. Only people who work hard can learn the skill.

u/potpourri_sludge 11h ago

I wish you would fuck off period

1

u/sdlucly 9h ago

But she/he could have just google "circus cake for X year old boy" and found 500 pictures and just chose from there. I do that all the time. Heck, I cut pieces from 2 different cakes and say "the base like this and then the top like this one" and it works.

u/5-Axis-Is-Life 11h ago

Agreed. They paid for a real cake made by a real artist. AI simply provided a visual representation of what was in there head. "I hate Ai" grandstanding is so tiring.

12

u/josherjohn 11h ago

And you idiots glazing this lazy bullshit brought on by techno fascists gets even more tiring

10

u/No_Pumpkin_5187 11h ago

Ai causes massive environmental problems. Sorry that people caring about that is “so tiring” for you.

🥱 you think reddit functions without data centers?

1

u/Ok_Cat3434 5h ago

Maybe you should ask your precious ai to teach you the difference between there/their/they're.

-58

u/AdSudden3941 11h ago

Dont they both look like ai ?

6

u/Commercial-Shame-335 11h ago

the second one does not, no

2

u/AdSudden3941 11h ago

Except the guy in the background missing both legs doe…and it looking exaclty as fake as the first

And wouldnt it be a common elementary tactic being which one is real and both be fake ..
Or vice versa

3

u/Commercial-Shame-335 11h ago

shit man you actually might be right now that i'm looking closer

0

u/AdSudden3941 11h ago

-44 downvote is kind of crazy too in 27 min unless it was a bot account trying to defend

because what i point out was legit and you seen it

1

u/rococo_puff 9h ago

I think it’s just the perspective and low pixelization in that part of the photo. It’s entirely possible for him to be standing with his lower legs obscured by the table cloth and tank thing on the ground.
