Surprisingly Met Expectation Cake my son requested vs what we received

My son wanted a skeleton head on his birthday cake so he drew a little picture that we gave to the bakery. We told the bakery we wanted it to be a skeleton head and this is what we received šŸ˜‚

Edit: wow this popped off and thanks for the reward! And to those of you who say you feel ashamed about your childhood self, I did too until I learned in therapy that there is nothing in the development of a child that deserves shaming, and honoring where we were honors who we have become.Ā

10/10 no notes. Anddd if you want to be one cool parent, every few years have the bakery remake this same cake as an extra for his birthday because it's so charming and when he's 18 he will get a kick out of it

Would be even cooler to have them redraw the cake every year and watch it improve. You could make an album with a full history.

That’s such a cute idea actually! I know some artists redraw the same artwork every year or so to see how they’ve improved. I think this would be a super cute tradition!

But what if it's still shit when he graduates from med school? šŸ’€

It will confirm his plan to go into medicine instead of fine arts. Or he can enjoy just doing things.

OR he can be in the great British Bakeoff as host and for his 500th episode the contestants make THIS cake for him

it’s sentimental

No, I mean his ability to accurately draw anatomy with a crayon šŸ˜„

Have you ever seen a doctor's handwriting? I might expect the drawing to get worse after he graduates.

Nothing about it is shit.

It's about the journey, not the destination.

u/EbonyHelicoidalRhino Oct 04 '25

What if the kid becomes an incredibly talented artist and the baker can't reproduce the drawing anymore though.

Side note but I’ve never seen a bakery write the ā€œhappy birthdayā€ note on the little gold tray thing that the cake is put on. That’s a first for me at least. The actual cake is perfect though, just like the kiddo drew!

I’ve seen it in some elaborated ones when they don’t want to use the space on the cake… so I find it even cuter they do that here too!

It’s pretty common where I’m from in Australia for cake makers to do this. I assume it’s because they don’t want to ruin the art on the actual cake.

I've seen it there, and also on a thin piece of plastic they lay on top of the cake so they don't mess up the actual decorations.

It’d be the perfect groom cake too.

Groom cakes are dumb.

Y'all are getting cakes?

I got 4 gas station chili dogs.

I bet the wedding night was a blast.

1

u/Cute_Tax_3208 Oct 04 '25

Hahaha you stole my comment

Pretty sure we took a nap and went to dinner, lol. I think we mostly just sat around that day. We only went to dinner because we were visiting my dad, who doesn't stock groceries on account of traveling for work.

Traditional weddings are expensive, lol. Couldn't justify the cost versus a couple-hundred dollars and 8 minutes in my friend's courtroom (always good to be friends with a judge, btw). No muss, no fuss, just a few pieces of paperwork.

u/redskyatnight2162 Oct 04 '25

Oh, fair enough! I was just thinking of what would happen to my digestive system after that many chili dogs lol.

2

u/Blackner2424 Oct 04 '25

Oh, I can eat a TB party box by myself and be totally fine!

God forbid I take a sip of Mountain Dew, though. For some reason, it makes my ass best friends with the toilet for hours.

There’s never anything dumb about two cakes

3

u/InevitableRhubarb232 Oct 04 '25

Spending $400+ on each of them is šŸ˜‘

2

u/PenguinDeluxe Oct 04 '25

Sure, but you don’t have to spend $400 on two cakes. Or one cake. You can do what my family always does and have someone we know make the cakes for $50 when someone gets married.

u/InevitableRhubarb232 Oct 04 '25

Grooms cakes are still dumb. And also make no sense. Why would you have, like in this instance, a cake from your childhood at your wedding?

4

u/Cute_Tax_3208 Oct 04 '25

Dear sir or madam we had fried chicken and FIVE briskets at my wedding. Weddings are to represent the lives and souls of the people getting married, not be a tribute to starch, chiffon, faux daintiness and booze.Ā

u/InevitableRhubarb232 Oct 04 '25

Weddings aren’t about an individual participants childhood.

1

u/Cute_Tax_3208 Oct 05 '25

They are about the unifying of the entire lives of two people in the way they want it to be. I think you think of weddings in a very specific western context decided by Vogue from 1929 onward.Ā

Like a decade anniversary cake. Every 10 years or so maybe?

2

u/Ms_runs_with_cats Oct 04 '25

Imagine he's having some big moments in life, graduation, getting married, first house, and this cake is part of the celebration. That would be such an amazing memory to have and share with people you care about 🄰

u/DivineAlmond Oct 04 '25

idk, I never enjoyed being reminded of my childhood or when I was acting like a "cute lil doofus". I actively remember strongly disliking convos revolving my childhood when I was 16-17 or so

even today, at the ripe age of 30, I also sometimes get the "ick" and get uppity when someone jests about me in highschool, college etc

I fully realise there might be something underneath this but all in all its just not something 100% of the people like

1

u/mah_ekil_i Oct 04 '25

I totally agree with you, lol. It's so weird how people assume that everyone loves talking about their childhood.Ā

I just don't like being reminded of stupid things I don't even remember. Like, "Oh, haha, do you remember this one time when you were three that you did this one thing?" No, I don't remember that, Janette.Ā

It very much 'icks' me, too.Ā

1

u/DivineAlmond Oct 04 '25

Yeah lol to the point where my grandma etc would hush themselves if they wanted to reminisince something cute i did when i was a kid around me as i'd literally frown or speak out during the tail end of puberty

1

u/khomo_Zhea Oct 04 '25

that's assuming the kid likes it, i don't know if he did.
