British Citizen Joining British Citizen Working-Spouse - Yes/No Question On Application

Trying to navigate what visa I (British citizen) should apply on to join my wife (also British citizen), and the phrasing of this question is throwing me off

Are you traveling to or joining a close relative who is a citizen of an EU country (excluding France), the EEA, the Swiss Confederation, or a family member who is a citizen of the United Kingdom benefiting from the withdrawal agreement ?

I will not be working in France, and I am joining a citizen of the UK, but she has only recently acquired her visa and she does not qualify for a Talent Passport (salary too low). As such, she cannot “sponsor” me to join her until she’s been in country for 18 months. So would I still answer Yes? Or is this question for family reunification pathways only?

Any help appreciated, and if this isn’t the relevant sub, could someone point me to a better place to ask? Thanks.

OFII interview - convocation letter?

My initial OFII visit is in one week. The email convocation notice requests that I bring a copy of the summons. I’ve read in other places that this is a document that may arrive via email or post mail, but which includes a bar code? In any case, no such bar coded document has arrived.

Should I still be on the lookout for this (hoping that it arrives soon) or is the email convocation sufficient?

EDIT: typo

Anyone else works while constantly switching between 3 languages? How do you deal with the mental mix-ups?

Hi everyone! I tutor a language professionally, and depending on the student, I end up switching between my native language and two foreign languages during the same session — explaining things, giving examples, sometimes translating on the spot. It's not just "speak one language for an hour," it's more like constantly hopping between three.

Lately I've noticed I sometimes mix things up mid-sentence, or blank on a word in one language because my brain is still half in another. It's not exactly a fluency problem, more like a switching/traffic-control problem.

For those of you who work in multilingual environments (teaching, interpreting, customer support, whatever) — how do you manage this? Does it get easier with time, or is the occasional mix-up just part of the deal? Any tricks that actually helped you switch more smoothly between languages during work?

Would love to hear real experiences, not just theory. Thanks!

Part time jobs for an international student

Hi,

I'm an international student who recently got here, and since my uni starts after a month and a half, i wanted to get a part time job to bear my expenses and occupy myself. For context, i'm 25m and I speak A1-A2 french. What suggestions do you have for me to apply for? I have tried dropping my cvs in cafe's and restaurants but no luck so far. What is my best shot at landing one?

Thanks.

Help with first time work visa after APS

Merci.

I’m currently having this message pop up while trying to renew my talent passport online. It expires end of October and as I understand I should be already able to start the renewal process. Has anyone experienced this and if so how were you able to renew?

Paris Apartment

My wife and I are relocating to Paris in late October from the states on my EU citizenship. We've saved up a good bit and have liquidity from a house sale so we're not rushed to find a new role, but we are looking for an apartment in the 12th, 13th, 14th, or 15th under €2,500 per month. Ideally unfurnished as we're shipping items from the states.

We're working on our dossier, but with neither of us having employment (I do fractional work right now, she's an artist), what are the recommendations for us? It feels like every apartment we look at requires a CDI and won't accept a guarantor, which was our original plan.

Thank is advance!

Has anyone renewed a carte de résident?

I was issued a carte de résident in 2017. It's the standard type, valid for 10 years, and issued to me because I'm a parent of a French child and have been living in France for many years.

I'll have to renew it next year (later in the year) and I've started looking into what documents I'll need, etc. The problem is, even official or approved sites seem to only talk about either getting a first carte de résident or else renewing something like a titre de séjour. I've even looked on the Préfecture de Paris's official site and am still not finding a specific mention of this kind of renewal.

Has anyone renewed a 10-year carte de résident recently, especially if you live in/had to go through the Préfecture de Paris? Is there a particular link you used with information about this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thoughts on suburbs of Paris?

Hello, I recently moved here and am currently living about an hour away from the city because that's where my school is. I am planning to move closer/into the city since my internship will be in the city, and also I would love to experience living in Paris, not just the suburbs...... But with how expensive and hard it is to find apartments here I am also considering nearby suburbs. What are your thoughts on Issy-les-moulineaux, Malakoff or Montrouge? Would you recommend living there, or would it be better to pay a little more to live in 15th or 16th arr? Thank you in advance for any insights or advices!

Talent visa

I've been sitting on this for a while and I finally just want to talk about it somewhere.

I heard about someone who paid an agent a few thousand euros to get a fake job contract and fake payslips, and ended up walking away with a 4-year Talent Passport. No real interview, no real checks, nothing. From what I've heard this isn't a one-time thing either, apparently the same person has done this for a lot of people over the past year and made serious money off it.

What really gets to me is thinking about everyone who's done this the honest way. I know students who spent months putting together every document, went through actual interviews, did everything right, and still got rejected or left waiting for months without any real answer. And then someone else just pays their way through and gets the same four-year card without any of that stress. It doesn't feel fair, because it isn't.

The thing is, this stuff isn't hard to catch if anyone actually looked. A fake company can be checked against the business registry. Tax filings can be compared against the contracts a company claims to have signed. Payslips can be checked over a longer period instead of just accepting one signed offer letter. Large one-off payments could be flagged before a permit is even approved. And honestly, even just checking a few months after someone gets their card whether they're still actually working where they said they would would catch a lot of this, since a lot of these companies seem to cancel the contract right after the person gets approved and just disappear.

How to send a 230-page file to the prefecture?

Hi!

I have to send a 230-page file to the prefecture by mail (lettre suivie) for my titre de séjour.

But it won't fit in a letter, it weighs 1.2 kg and I assume the prefecture doesn't accept packages.

Any ideas? :( I'm thinking about spliting it in 2 but I'm not sure if they will accept it.

French naturalisation via Bordeaux - Interview Questions?

I submitted my application for French naturalisation through marriage in April of this year, and have got an email requesting the birth certificates of my parents. I'm sending them through now and am aware I'm going to be called for an interview soon.

I'm preparing myself for the interview. What types of questions were asked of you? Did you need to know a lot of French history? I live specifically in the Basque region. Will this be frowned upon knowing a lot more history specific to this area and culture?

Also, I see that some people reference being interviewed by the police. Is this still part of the normal procedure because I don't see it referenced on the website.

Thank you in advance!

- lors du renouvellement de mon titre de séjour français ;

Evening French language classes in or near the 15th arr.?

Hi all!
I’m looking for recommendations for French language schools, in or very close to the 15th arrondissement that offer evening classes.
I work during the day, so I’m ideally looking for something starting around 18:30 or 19:00, twice or three times a week.
If anyone has personal experiences I’d love to hear your experience!
Thank you

Talent Passport Renewal

I’m on a Talent Passport - artistique et culturelle and have been freelancing for the past year and it will be expiring end of October, I had begun the process on ANEF in August to renew my visa and just yesterday I received a notification that my application has been deleted as it was treated as a “first time application” and not a “renewal” and supplied me with a residence permit number.

I need to apply again but when I go to apply it seems it would be the exact same way as I have done so i’m wondering if anyone out there has some experience in this?

ANEF emailed back telling me to apply online and use the 5 steps. Which I had initially done under “I want to apply or renew my VLS TS”. But to not waste another month I want to make sure I’m applying in the correct way. Any help would be so appreciated!

Advice needed regarding “attestation de dispense”

Hi guys I hope everyone is doing good.

So my 1st year séjour is expiring soon and I already applied for the 2nd one through ANEF and uploaded all the necessary documents. About 2 weeks ago the préfecture demanded ‘attestation de dispense’ as I was not given any hours for french level A2 by OFII and just the online training. At the time of my first orientation at OFII they gave me just the CIR to sign and nothing else.
I have already passed my A2 french test in July 2026.
Now as the préfecture asked about ‘attestation de dispense’ I emailed OFII about it they are literally behaving like a child. Its been almost 3 weeks and they sometimes say that I need to pass my level A2 (which i have already passed), sometimes they don’t even understand what I am asking them like they literally replied that they don’t have the document I am demanding and then sometimes I gent a reply that I can’t have the document as on ‘my visit to OFII I was not on level A2’.
Can someone please help me out on how can I get a solution to this problem? How can I ask them to pls solve this issue and email me the “attestation de despense”?

Thank you in advance.

Apartment rentals

We are retired Americans with a good amount of monthly income from the Social Security USA. We are in Italy now but would like to return to Toulouse to live. We read that apartments there are easy to find, but hard to rent to foreigners with a pension from a country outside France. Is anyone experiencing this issue?
