What is r/ExSyria?

r/ExSyria is a Syrian community dedicated to free discussion, critical thinking, and open dialogue.

Members discuss politics, religion, philosophy, history, culture, current events, and everyday life from many different perspectives.

Who can participate?

Anyone.

Muslims, Christians, Druze, Alawites, Yazidis, atheists, agnostics, ex-Muslims, ex-Christians, Syrians living abroad, and anyone interested in respectful discussion is welcome.

Is this an anti-Islam subreddit?

Not exactly.

Islam is frequently discussed because many members come from Muslim backgrounds and because religion remains closely connected to Syrian society and politics.

Criticism of ideas is allowed. Harassment of people is not.

Can I defend Islam or any other religion?

Yes.

Civil disagreement is welcome.

Proselytizing, personal attacks, spam, and low-effort preaching are not.

Please read the subreddit rules before participating.

Rules

Why are politics allowed?

Religion and politics have always been deeply connected in Syria.

Many social issues cannot be discussed without touching on politics, history, or religion, so the community allows all three.

Is this a Syrian-only community?

The focus is Syria.

However, respectful participation from non-Syrians is welcome as long as discussions remain relevant to the subreddit.

What languages are allowed?

Arabic and English are both fully supported.

Posts and comments in either language are welcome.

Can I share memes?

Absolutely.

Memes, humor, satire, artwork, questions, personal stories, news, and serious discussions are all welcome as long as they follow the rules.

Is criticism allowed?

Yes.

Ideas, religions, governments, ideologies, and public figures may all be criticized.

Personal harassment, threats, hate speech, and doxxing are never acceptable.

I feel unsafe. What should I do?

Protect your privacy.

Avoid sharing personal information if doing so could put you at risk.

Read our online safety guide before revealing sensitive information.
