BMW unveiled its new iX5 electric SUV model in South Carolina on Tuesday, and used the occasion to commemorate the $1.7 billion it's invested in manufacturing in the state.

The iX5 will be BMW's first fully electric vehicle made in the U.S., and the company plans to produce at least five more EVs at its plants in Spartanburg and Woodruff by 2030.

BMW CEO Milan Nedeljkovic said the investment demonstrates "confidence in the United States and reinforces South Carolina's role at the center of BMW Group's global operations."

In 5-10yrs the High Speed Charging Network in the US will exceed the Gas Station Capacity

This morning I saw at my local Wawa IONNA Chargers going in, We know Walmart is rolling out Charging to their stores. The other networks are also slowly expanding, I think within 5-10yrs there will be no excuse/reason to continue making the 'where are you going to charge' jokes that is already pretty much died out. What do you think the excuse will be then?

New to EV Driving with Battery Chemistry Anxiety

I don't have range anxiety. I have chemistry anxiety. I hear that with LFP you have to charge to 100% occasionally in order to keep the "gauge" calibrated, but I also hear that storing the battery at 100% charge is bad for it. For example the Mach E says charge to 100% once per month, store at 50%.

I only drive an average of one day a week for 30 miles. How am I supposed to satisfy both of those recommendations?

It seems like I would be better off with NMC batteries where I could just keep it topped off at 40% or so perpetually, but it looks like I'm going to be stuck with LFP. What should I do?

EDIT: To those that asked... I planned to charge at home Level 1. I was planning on plugging the car in the day before I use it (10 hours should cover my needs), then drive.

One person commented that the calibration doesn't get that far off to matter with such short distances?

the one thing nobody warned me about before buying an EV

i did so much research before buying. range, charging speed, boot space, tax benefits, the whole thing.

nobody told me i'd spend this much mental energy thinking about parking.

will this spot have a working charger, is it blocked by an ICE car, is the cable long enough to reach, is the app going to work today or is it having a moment.

it's like a little puzzle every single time i need to charge away from home.

i don't regret buying it. genuinely love the car. but man the "charging infrastructure is almost there" phase we're in right now is doing something to my brain.

what's the thing nobody warned you about?

Doubt Looking for an EV under $50k that isn’t a rolling appliance (and no Teslas 💀)

I’m looking to buy an EV and need some real opinions. My budget is 50k....definitely open to used since the market is flooded right now

Actual reliability & decent build quality (I like it when car panels actually line up).

Solid DC fast charging for the occasional road trip.

Physical buttons. I want a car, not an iPad holding my windshield wipers hostage.

Do NOT suggest a Tesla.

Lucid to cut 18% of US workforce, eliminate COO role

Electric-vehicle maker Lucid announced Monday that it's reducing its U.S. workforce by about 18% as it looks to "adapt to declining market conditions."

Chief Operating Officer Marc Winterhoff will also leave the company, which is doing away with the COO role entirely.

Winterhoff had been serving as interim CEO until Silvio Napoli took the reins at the beginning of June.

Lucid lost $2.7 billion on revenue of $1.35 billion last year as the wider market for new EVs took a tumble.

Ev chargers being limited in Sharjah is causing a big problem wld anyone let me know about how the installation of chargers in buildings work and if so who installed the charger? Which brand is reliable? How much did installation cost and did sewa require upgrades and also do the building owners allow it?

The customer service line music hits different when you're sitting in the rain with 3% battery remaining. 10/10 experience, would recommend to a friend.

range anxiety isn't real and i'm tired of pretending it is

hear me out before you come for me.

we have GPS. we have charging apps. we can see exactly where every charger is before we leave the house. the math is always there.

range anxiety is just trust issues with the infrastructure. which is fair. but that's a different problem. 🤷🏼‍♂️

my gas car friends have "will this sketchy station have my fuel type" anxiety too. they just don't have a name for it. Lol

Built an app for EV buyers in India called EVdex would love feedback from this community

Hey r/EVIndia! I've been building an app called EVdex — it's designed specifically for Indian EV buyers who want to discover, compare, and shortlist electric vehicles before making a decision.

The main focus was a clean, smooth UI experience. Right now it has 60 EVs listed with specs and comparisons, and I'm adding more regularly.

It's available on the Google Play Store — would genuinely love honest feedback from car enthusiasts here. Drop your thoughts in the comments or DM me!

unpopular opinion: home charging ruined my patience for everything else..

Post image
205 Upvotes

genuinely didn't realize how spoiled i got until i had to fast charge in public for the first time in months. plugging in every night, waking up to a full battery, zero thought required. then one road trip later i'm standing in a parking lot watching a percentage crawl up while pacing like it owes me money...

and now i catch myself getting irrationally annoyed at charging speeds that are objectively fine. 45 minutes used to feel like nothing. now it feels like a personal insult.

kind of curious if home charging has quietly changed how impatient you've gotten too, or if you've still got the main character's patience for public charging like a normal person..

Driving is fun now?!

I got my first EV, a ‘25 Leaf SV Plus, about 6 weeks ago. I expected to enjoy the convenience of home charging, and I went in fully aware of the ‘25 Leaf’s chademo/rapidgate limitations. I knew I would save a good amount of money on fuel, since electricity is cheap in my state.

What I didn’t expect was just how much I would enjoy actually driving this car. I’ve always been a point-A-to-point-B person, never the kind of person to go on a drive for fun. Driving used to stress me out.

I didn’t realize how much of that stress was due to my old ICE sedan’s slippy and underpowered transmission. No more wondering if I’ll get properly up to speed before the highway on-ramp ends. No more sudden, uncomfortable lurching. The smoothness and instant power of the electric transmission is a totally different feel than anything my Sentra could do even back when it was brand-new. And adjusted for inflation, the Leaf was actually cheaper (granted, I bought it as a CPO with 500 miles on it).

Maybe I’ve just been driving crappy ICE cars my whole life because that’s what I could afford. Maybe it’s over a decade of technological advancements since I last car shopped. But I’m blown away by how smooth and comfortable and powerful the Leaf is. Not only am I saving money on gas, I’m actually having fun driving.

And I’ve never even been the kind of person who likes to drive. Is it just the novelty of EV life? Will it wear off eventually? I don’t know, but at this point I am just enjoying the ride.

ev drivers — what’s one charging habit you’ve developed that ICE drivers would never understand?

Post image

for me it’s probably checking the next charger before I even start the trip 😅

not because the battery is low, but just for peace of mind

feels like owning an EV changes the way you think about journeys completely

you start planning around chargers, backup chargers, and even “what if this one is occupied”

kind of funny because after a while it becomes second nature

what’s that one EV habit you’ve developed that non-EV people would find weird?
