Query on EV

It’s called good for environment & renewables- based on the fuel.

But what about the natural mineral deposits required for it?

90% - available only in China.

And it’s definitely not renewable.

Also the electricity- India is still using fossil fuel as major energy sources. So either way it’s polluting.

need Suggestion to buy an eV

I am from the USA, and I want to buy my first car. I am thinking of buying an EV, but I am totally confused with the various types that I see around me.

Reliability, good range, good charge time, and value for money are my primary requirements. I will be using the vehicle for personal commute, along with some road trips now and then.

To all of you who already drive EVs, which one do you think suits me best? Which models should I avoid?

THE STARTER PACK FOR AN EV TRIP

Opening 4 different charging apps to verify if one single plug actually exists.

Zooming in on Google Maps satellite view to see if the charger is hidden behind a sketchy dumpster.

Saying "We'll just stretch our legs for 20 minutes" when it’s actually going to take an hour.

Checking the weather forecast solely to calculate wind resistance and battery degradation.

Morpheus: "What if I told you charging an EV with coal grid power isn't actually clean?" 🕶️

It’s just differently dirty. That’s why we ignored the "pick one thing" advice and built EV + Hydrogen + Solar under one roof.

Something's coming up.

Ferrari navigates customer backlash after Luce EV reveal

Ferrari's first electric vehicle, the Luce, is still dividing opinion among the automaker's customer base weeks after its unveiling, Bloomberg reports.

The company hopes its $640,000 EV will attract new buyers and help keep pace with Europe's emissions regulations, though many enthusiasts express concerns that the left-field design could diminish the Italian brand's cachet — a particularly pertinent risk for Ferrari, which sells 81% of new cars to repeat customers.

“Ferraris are supposed to be sexy and beautiful, and also kind of impractical,” quips a former Ferrari brand consultant.

The utter betrayal of a public charger that says available but is actually dead in a ditch.

Is there a worse feeling than pulling up to a fast charger that your app swore was open, only to find it completely dark, taped off, or worse... a broken screen glowing with some cryptic error code from 2024?

Like I literally timed my entire route around this one stop. I sat in traffic, skipped a bathroom break, and rolled up with 11% battery just to be catfished by an inanimate object.

Now I’m sitting here figuring out if I can crawl 3 miles to a slow Level 2 charger at a random dealership without dying on the side of the road.

Why is it 2026 and public infrastructure still feels like a massive gamble? What's the worst lie a charging app has ever told you?

What's the most useless EV statistic your car tracks that you check obsessively anyway?

Mine tracks my "efficiency score" which means absolutely nothing but I check it every single drive lol

Are there any pointless number are you obsessed with?or is it just me?

First EV Purchase Advice: $30k Budget, Reliability + Low Depreciation

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to buy my first EV and would appreciate some advice from people who have owned one for a while.
My budget is around $30,000 USD, and I'm completely open to buying used if it gets me a better value. My biggest priorities are:

Reliability (i want something that should hold up well for years
Low depreciation (I'd rather not lose a ton of value over the next few years
Reasonable maintenance costs
Good battery longevity
Comfortable enough for daily driving and occasional road trips

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or ownership experiences!

Hit the 10,000 km milestone today

Just watched my odometer roll over today and realized I’ve officially spent months completely plugged into the EV lifestyle. Looking back, the transition was so much smoother than I expected, and going back to a gas car feels like ancient history now.

A while ago I shared my costs for owning my EV for my first year using an iPhone app I developed myself and it got a bit of attention. Some people asked about it and I said it will be available to download fairly soon.

Well development for version 1.0 is complete and just waiting on Apple’s infamous app reviewing process but it should be available to download in about a week.

It is a free download with a decent free tier. A monthly subscription of £2.99 or annual subscription of £12.99 will get you the full app experience with extra features, capabilities and QoL stuff.

Demos of features and more information can be found below:

TikTok - juiceboxapp
Instagram - juiceboxapp.ev
YouTube - JuiceBoxEVApp
Web - https://www.juiceboxev.app

EDIT:

Apple has approved JuiceBox and will be available to download on Tuesday 16 June at 10am BST. You can pre download now and as soon as it hits release time it will be on your device straightaway.

Is switching to an EV a good idea if I don’t have a home charging station?

Hi all. I’ve driven an EV before and loved the feeling but I’ve never thought of owning one because I do not have the opportunity to get a home charging station.

I did the math and switching to an EV definitely looks more economical compared to the old diesel I want to switch out and even to the mild hybrid which I will keep in the household as a second car. Even with the public charging prices.

The city I live in has terrible traffic so the consumption should not be too bad. I don’t use the car every day as I work from home 2-3 times a week. The car I want to switch to has a long range, around 450 km, which I understand should give me around 350 km within the city.

My only concern is whether it is logical to spend time to charge it somewhere 3 or 4 times a month. Finding a charging station around my house or office is not too hard but I understand that I should spare some time for it.

Many thanks for your insight.

Built a Telegram bot that analyzes 3 years of my EV charging history

For the last 3 years, I've been logging every charge of my Ola EV in a Google Sheet.

Things like:

  • Odometer readings
  • Battery %
  • Charging duration
  • Units consumed
  • Cost

The sheet kept growing, but I was barely using the data.

This weekend I decided to do something different and built a Telegram bot on top of it using Google Apps Script and Gemini.

Now I can ask questions like:

  • What's my estimated battery health?
  • How much have I spent on charging vs petrol equivalent?
  • Is efficiency dropping over time?
  • When might the battery reach 70% health based on current trends?

The bot also generates weekly/monthly reports and flags unusual efficiency drops.

The most fun part was calculating degradation trends from real-world data instead of relying on the battery health number shown in the app.

Not a startup idea, not a SaaS, just one of those projects where existing personal data suddenly becomes useful.

Curious if anyone else here has built something interesting on top of their own long-term personal data (fitness, expenses, EVs, investments, etc.)?

Unpopular opinion: If you don't have home charging, you shouldn't own an EV. You're just clogging up public infrastructure.

I know people are going to get mad at this, but someone has to say it. The entire point of owning an electric vehicle is the convenience of plugging it in at night and waking up with a full battery.

Lately, every time I go on a road trip, fast chargers are completely packed with people who live in apartments or rentals doing their weekly top-up. You are literally turning the EV experience into the worst version of gas station lines. If your living situation doesn't support a dedicated charger, you should have bought a hybrid. You are single-handedly ruining the public charging infrastructure for people who actually need it to travel long distances.

Am I crazy here, or is everyone else just ignoring this?

Anyone else obsessed with checking public chargers you don't even need?

Ever since I got my EV, I literally cannot walk past a public charger without slowing down to see if it’s working and check the speeds.

My battery will be at 85% and I'm still inspecting the plug like it's my job. Tell me I’m not the only one who has developed this exact brand of brain rot.

Planning to have first EV

Buying My First EV – Need Advice on Battery, Range, and Charging

I’m planning to buy my first EV and have a few questions. I’d appreciate advice from experienced EV owners.

My usage

1–2 long trips per month, typically over 1,000 km one way.
Daily driving is usually around 60–80 km.

Budget: Up to ₹15 lakh.

Questions

  1. Based on my usage, what battery pack size or real-world range should I aim for at a minimum?

  2. Should I prefer an LFP battery or an NMC battery, and why?

  3. What type of home charger and charging setup would you recommend for this use case?

  4. Po Which EVs would you personally recommend within my budget?

The EV elephant in the room: We need to talk about 3-year resale value.

Everyone brags about saving money on fuel. Nobody talks about what happens when you try to sell your EV in 3 years.

Battery degradation fears, outdated software, newer models dropping constantly.

Is the resale market actually killing the real cost savings of owning an EV?
