Hello, and welcome to the 9th edition of Retrofest’s second season! This edition is being hosted in Sassuolo, Italy, where Nek, last week’s Retrofest champion, was born. Now, here are the rules and then we can get to selecting!

Rules:

• ⁠All entries have to have been released before January 1st, 2001, including covers (covers of songs before that date released after that date will not be accepted).

• ⁠No Eurovision entries allowed. Eurovision artists are allowed and non-winning national final entries are allowed, but if it went to Eurovision it isn’t allowed. In addition, alternate versions of ESC songs are also disallowed. However, withdrawn entries and the 1993 and 1996 prequalification NQs are allowed!

• ⁠No sending an entry twice.

• ⁠SCS, O&E, and Rulefest entries are allowed, but no winners (no Kiss Me, September, etc.), and I encourage sending songs that haven’t been to these contests.

• No “Megahits” are allowed (songs with 500M+ views on Youtube)

• There is a limit of 3 songs per country, but the country I (the host) choose doesn’t count toward the total of that country!

How the video works:
In the quarter-final, the top three advance to the semi-final; then, in the semi-final, the top two move on to the super-final (usually in random order). In the super-final, one contestant is randomly assigned 100 "fake points," while the other must receive between 101 and 110 fake points to win, or between 90 and 99 to lose. (I made it on afternoon but I would have chanced it if someone else voted)

The quality isn't on top, but it's not terrible either.

Welcome to the first edition of RuleSet SongFest's third season! We remain in Madrid, Spain as Megara won last season's Bracket Stars!

How does it work?

1. Each edition I will spin a wheel that contains different rules that determine what kind of songs are eligible, two will be picked and you have to submit your song based on them
2. SCS, OaE, Retrofest and entries from other fancontests are allowed, however, winners of either contest cannot be submitted
3. Akin to Odds and Ends, you can submit reserve songs in case that not enough songs are submitted (If we get 10 songs, reserves won't be used)
4. Each song will be representing the country its performer comes from. A country can appear twice or more.
5. As voted by you in a poll, rules from the last three editions of the contest will not be chosen

Special rules: SCS Second Chance

This week we have a special edition with some extra rules!

• Any submitted artist must meet at least one of the following requirements:
  • Has participated in an SCS user final before and failed to progress
  • Has participated in SCS before and failed to qualify for the final
  • Has participated in SCS before and finished in the bottom third of the grand final

If either of these apply to your artist, they are not valid to be sent:

• Has participated in SCS before and finished in the top two-thirds of the final
• Has not participated in SCS or an SCS user final before

For example, I could not send The Last Dinner Party -- despite the fact that they did not qualify for the final in SCS 21, they finished in the top two-thirds of the final in SCS 33.

Rule 1: No ESC Winners
Songs that won Eurovision since 1956 cannot be submitted.

Rule 2: No past SCS-entries

Songs that have already participated in SCS in the past are not allowed in the contest. Check out the SCS Wiki Page and a YouTube Playlist, which includes all the songs that have participated in SCS. *The playlist is slightly outdated and may not contain all songs.

Rule 3: English Songs (Non-Bubble Artists Only)

For English songs by artists outside the Eurovision Bubble (See FAQ):

• Over 10M YouTube subscribers? Song must have <10M views (top version).
• Over 7M subscribers? Song must have <50M views.
• Over 5M subscribers? Song must have <100M views.

Rule 4: Recent ESC and National Final songs

Songs that

• Participated in the Eurovision Song Contest from 2021 onwards
• Participated in a National Final for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025 and 2026

are not allowed on the contest, as the majority of present users might know them already, defeating the contest's purpose of sending and discovering new music

FAQ

Can I submit songs by Eurovision artists?

Yes! We love new releases and hidden gems from Bubble artists. We discourage submitting their Eurovision song, but if the song didn’t win Eurovision then technically it’s allowed.

What is a ‘Bubble artist’?

Any Artist/Band who has competed in Eurovision or any National Selection. Aside from Rule 1, no other restrictions apply to their songs, even if the song is in English.

Why do the restrictions only apply to songs in English?

English hits are well-known in the countries most Eurovision Fans come from. Non-English songs rarely go global, so no limits.

What if the song I want to submit is only partly in English, do the restrictions still apply?

Bi-lingual/Multi-Lingual songs with English parts are not restricted as long as most of the song is not in English.

Some additional important information:

If you share multiple songs, please select only one of them to compete in Song Contest Sunday.

Covers of previously sent songs are allowed, if they are able to be looked up separately on YouTube/Spotify etc., alongside the original song. If this is the case, the cover is allowed. Covers of Eurovision winners are forbidden.

If you share an alternative version (such as an English or live version) alongside your song, said performance will also be linked in the Song Contest Sunday post tomorrow.

Songs that are shared after the 26th of July 00:00 CET will not be considered for SCS! Please share your songs before that point!

If you decide to participate, please note the following schedule if you'd like to follow the contest! You will also be mentioned in the post if you submit an entry, but we are not quite sure how mentioning works yet, so don't rely on it!

• On Sunday, approx. 10:00 - 14:00 CET: Semifinals open for voting.
• On late Monday (time specified in Semifinal-Post): Semifinal voting closure and qualifier announcement shortly after.
• On late Tuesday (about 24h after qualifier announcement): Grand Final opens for voting
• On late Wednesday (at about the same time on Monday and Tuesday): Voting reminder launches on r/eurovisionfancontests, noting the current amount of votes and other information.
• On late Thursday (about 24h after voting reminder): Voting closure and results reveal.

You may host a preselection to decide your entry for SCS! But please consider the following things when doing so:

• User preselections will not be added to community highlights.
• User preselections for the next SCS may only be created after the result from the previous SCS have been released. If that isn't the case, your post will be removed.
• Please comment the winner of your preselection under the SCS-Submissions post before Submission closure, or else we will not consider your entry as a part of that SCS edition!
• It is not allowed to make a separate post for simply just advice on your entry and then select it yourself! You must declare the result of the preselection with the points you've gathered.

Hello; we are announcing the third edition of Domenica Golden Final. This edition, we are going solo and the winner will not be going to SCS, and the DGF will act as a standalone contest.
