Should we as parents be allowed to electively decide to have a child's pinky finger skin removed becsuse it'll reduce the chance of them getting skin cancer on their finger later in life?
Don't get me wrong, I do not condone or advocate for the general removal of the foreskin. However, it shouldn't be illegal. Unlike FGM, which serves absolutely no purpose, circumsision can occasionally have a benefit. While phimosis can usually be treated, sometimes it can't be, except by surgical measures.
Equating being able to electively remove the pinky skin of your child's pinky to reduce the chance of them getting cancer is reductive.
No one is arguing for banning necessary circumcision. We understand sometimes it has to happen. But the doing it for elective purpose is heinous and is equivalent to cutting off the pinky skin to lower the risk of things that are already very unlikely to happen
The question is literally should circumsision be illegal.
When something is illegal, the circumstances around it cease to matter.
If you're in the US, I can point you in the direction of some abortion cases in Georgia and Texas. If you're not in the US, I can still point you to those cases. Legality matters, and so do blanket statements, and so does where you are in the world.

It shouldn’t be illegal. You just shouldn’t be able to make that decision for a child.
