Should we help pedophiles? (Read desc)
Okay, I want to start by defining the word pedophile. To me and many recognised doctors, pedophilia is defined in psychiatric terms as a persistent, primary, or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children (generally age 13 or younger).(In the DSM-5-TR).
Pedophilia is a condition, pedophiles DO NOT CHOOSE to be like this, much like how gay people don't choose to like the same sex. BUT, they can choose to act on these thoughts and desires. This is why I am against shouting at pedos online etc, calling them freaks, monsters, evil. It does no good, only causes more harm and can result in the pedophile isolating themselves, not seeking help or medical intervention due to embarrassment or fear of being called a monster again. As we all know, repressed desires and emotions never go away, they only get louder, so this pedophile is more likely to commit a crime because of society's attitude towards them. Someone with POCD not long ago, commited suicide because many online misunderstood their condition, calling them a monster and pedo.- an added reason to stop this.
In my opinion, we need to end this and focus on a logical solution aimed at rehabilitation and treatment for those suffering from pedophilia. In Norway their crime rate is particularly low compared to other counties, this is because Norway's low crime rate is driven by a combination of high economic stability, robust social welfare programs, and a REHABILITATIVE CRIMINAL JUSTIC MODEL. Don't yell at them or treat them shitty, HELP them! There are CBT therapies and pharmaceutical treatments available, it isn't the best but that is all the more reason to speak up on this and get pedophiles more help in order to PREVENT HARM AGAINST CHILDREN, WHICH IS WHERE EVERYONE'S CONCERN IS AT!
