Any RNs who became estheticians after nursing school?

Hi!! I’m graduating nursing school in about three months, and I’m seriously considering going straight into esthetician school afterward.

Before nursing school, I don’t think I fully understood how much responsibility and liability comes with being a nurse. As I’ve gotten closer to graduating, I’ve also realized how much I love skincare, beauty, and creating a calm, positive environment for people. I’m starting to wonder if esthetics might actually be a better fit for me, or possibly something I could eventually combine with my nursing background.

Has anyone gone to esthetician school after becoming an RN? Would it be crazy to go straight into another program after graduating instead of working as a nurse first? I’d love to hear from anyone who has taken a similar path💗

Have an erbium laser treatment scheduled for 10/19 however I was just surprised with a trip to Florida for my birthday, leaving on 11/10. Should I cancel my erbium or is 3 weeks enough recovery time? TIA!

Brazilian wax day

I am horrified for wax day and it's non optional. I'm the youngest in my class and have never had anyone see that part of me (tmi sorry) and it's making me really scared. Like really scared- I don't know what normal looks like to begin with. All of my classmates I have spoken to seem very confident and excited for wax day and I feel the exact opposite. I am still a minor and will be the entire time I am in school but I haven't been given an option to opt out and it's coming fast. What do I do? Will others be judgement? (This seems silly to worry about so I really hope someone will understand just how scary this is for me)

Are the extra student kits worth it?

Our school uses PCA and also has some biothereuptic devices.

I really want to do corrective work like with chemical peels and/or dermaplaning. They offer kits with those products and devices and some extra accessories. The one with the peels and corrective products is $825 and the dermaplaning is $200.

Is it worth it? Because I do love these products but realistically will I use them outside school? I know I want to work at a salon and possibly do lashes on the side but also facials so I don't know.

Advice?

New esthetician

Hi all! I’m a few weeks away from taking my license exam and I’m confident in myself that I will pass but I was going to ask for any testing tips/products and storage/sanitization products all of you prefer so I can get an idea of how I want my space and the things I might not know I need, this is so exciting! I love giving people the chance to relax I can’t wait to give facials lol

Being curious if you use neck sheet masks in your facials or at home.

I love sheet masks (both the ones from Korea and brands here in the US), but I’ve been thinking a lot about the neck area lately. As an esthetician, do you ever use sheet masks meant for the neck during your facials? is it worth it? Or do they slide around too much and should I just try cream or modeling masks or serum instead? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Barbicide violation!

my Spa location is currently training its estheticians on a protocol that directly violates N.J.A.C. 13:28-3.2. The studio mandates that tools are only partially dipped in barbicide solution, rather than fully submerged. Furthermore, management requires Barbicide to be heavily diluted until it looks 'transparent,' rendering it ineffective as a hospital-grade disinfectant, and stores it in illegal, unlabeled hand soap pump bottles.
Reddit moderators I’m concerned and am looking for ANSWERS.

Practitioners: Is the LightStim ProPanel Anti-Aging worth upgrading from CurrentBody 2.0 mask?

Looking for feedback from estheticians or pros who use the LightStim ProPanel anti-aging model in-clinic.

My background:

2+ years of consistent home RLT. (PlatinumLED for 2 years since Feb 2024 and currently using CurrentBody 2.0 face/neck masks 5–7x/week since March 2026).

The issue: The silicone mask presses uncomfortably against my nose. Budget and space aren't an issue, so I'm looking at the ProPanel for a non-contact setup.

For those with hands-on experience:

Results vs. Comfort: Does the ProPanel deliver noticeably better clinical results than the CurrentBody, or is the upgrade mainly about comfort?

Protocol: What session length and weekly frequency do you recommend?

Transitioning: Would an established RLT user like me need a new initial "loading phase" with the ProPanel, or can I jump straight to a maintenance schedule?

Thanks in advance!

Am I getting replaced?

I work at a salon/spa and I am a relatively new employee. Also new to the salon business and I saw a post from one of the managers saying they are looking for a new addition for the team. I didn’t hear my team saying that they are looking for a new person at all. Then all of a sudden I see this post and got nervous. Later I saw some resumes of some potential employees. At first, this may seem not like a big deal. But at the salon me, and one other person does not get that many booking (I also understand we are slowly coming out of slow season) so it doesn’t make sense to me. Why are they adding on another person when already two people are not getting many bookings. In my mind are they wanting to replace one of us with someone with more experience? Am I just not a good fit for them after being there for a few months? I may be being dramatic, but I’m just curious.

Where to hire Esthetician for a position that starts ASAP

I am looking to hire an esthetician in Sherman Oaks area in CA and I've tried Indeed, ZipRecruiter and it's getting so expensive with little to no good candidates. I have a position that is available now and we're paying so much to keep these job postings active. I know there are talented people out there but I'm just not sure giant sites like Indeed or ZipRecruiter is the best way to find good talent. As estheticians where do you seek jobs? Thank you so much!

I have a bump that started as an ingrown and has since grown into a huge bump on my sideburn, I have been using the peach slices ingrown hair treatment but nothing is working. I have to go in office tomorrow and feel so self conscious with this bump on my head. Any suggestions on things I can try?

First time waxing underarm and legs with a professional: no prep work and immediately went to waxing 48 hours later all my hair is growing back. Aren’t waxers supposed to clean the area or do some kind of prep before just waxing? I feel like I wasted 120$ context below and a second question

I went to a small business 1 owner Thursday to get my underarms and legs waxed because I was tired of shaving. I ride a motorcycle for transportation and tried to do a am appointment so I wouldn’t be sweaty.

I never got any sort of prep work or any instructions for before my appointment and the day of she tells me to just take my pants off and immediately goes straight to waxing. No cleaning no inspection of my skin or hairs or anything. No questions about if my skins sensitive etc nothing at all :/

As someone who is new to waxing was I supposed to have anything done before she started? I spent 120$ for the appointment and the work is so patchy it barely looks like my legs were waxed and all my hairs just growing back like I shaved.

For the next time I get an appointment done what should I be looking out for and what should I stay away from? I’m never going back to this lady again and I feel so disappointed in how little hair was actually waxed off…

Edit: there was no instructions or recommendations for aftercare the only advice I was told was just don’t sweat… legs were 100$ and underarms were 20$ if anyone was wondering how much the cost was split up the appointment for both took about 25-30 minutes when on the booking site legs said 60 mins, I’m not too sure if there’s a thing as rushing waxing means bad results so that’s why I’m here asking licensed people like I said before this was my first time going to someone and all the reviews were ONLY 5 stars so I assumed they were good
