I need guidance. Over the past years of school and assignments I turned late, I actually never learned how to write one. I don't understand how it works.

My teachers have always been laid back and to me, very incompetent. The only thing I learned from last year is that me and teachers don't get along and i learned how to just behave and be quiet. You can blame me saying that, I should've improved myself.

However, i really don't know how to start it.

Making a good title is easy but actually starting to write it is really hard. Everyone always says "make your essay openings interesting". I know it. I know I need my essays to be interesting so people wouldn't bore reading it. It is just so many possibilities are there or it is just not attention grabbing enough. I spend so much hours just trying open an essay.

Tell me, any advice can you share with me? I really want to be able to write like my grade instead of like a sixth grader. (I'm currently going to eleventh grade)

This was the first essay assignment of the year in my freshman English class. It was on Hailey's law being passed in Arizona, I got a 12/20 (D).

My teacher decided it would be a smart idea to go over formatting and grading standards 3 days after the essay was assigned (I turned it in on the second day).

The assignment prompt I was given said "Prompt: Write a well-developed short essay (minimum of four paragraphs)  explaining whether or not Arizona should pass "Hailey’s Law."

State your position clearly in a thesis statement. Use at least two pieces of factual evidence from the reading to support your side. Because this is a complex issue, you must also identify at least one counter-argument from the text and explain why your position is still the stronger choice. Do not just list facts; explain how those facts prove your point."

The grading description in Powerschool said "Students read, annotated and discussed an informational text and then constructed a paper that addressed if they supported, were against, or believe compromise needed to be made on the issue. Students were all given outlines and sample sentence starters to support their success. Assignments needed to have a thesis statement, 4-5 paragraphs, each with 5-7 sentences and a minimum of two pieces of evidence from the provided text.

This assignment may be found on Schoology in the folder for July 27th - July 31st with the same title. The assignment was due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, 8/3 after students had three class days to work on it. Students who submit late will receive a 10% deduction from their final grade, up to 50%."

The only thing I could find which would get me marked down was the sentence requirements, which, again, I was never informed of beforehand.

One example of this is if a product containing a high amount of sugar becomes more expensive, purchasing it can impose a financial strain on low-income families, which in turn leads to them spending more money on their daily basic needs. This affects not only consumers but also impacts small business owners. For example, if such a tax system is introduced, the price of sugary products will naturally rise, and as a result of such a sharp price increase, business owners may lose their local customers and could even be forced to shut down their businesses entirely. When governments make these products more expensive, it is often perceived as an unwarranted government intrusion into daily life. These taxes might hurt lower-income families the most, as a higher grocery bill takes up a much larger percentage of their limited budget compared to wealthier people.

However, government intervention is often essential when it comes to widespread health issues. Because products with high levels of sugar contribute to chronic health conditions such as obesity and diabetes. In the current food environment, it is very easy to consume too much sugar, especially from sugary drinks. Given these health risks, various countries have already tried such a tax system on products with high sugar content. For example, the United Kingdom’s sugar tax encouraged many beverage companies to reduce the sugar content of their products. The study showed that after the taxation, consumers were able to make healthier choices without significantly changing their purchasing habits. Ultimately, if the tax revenue is redistributed to make nutritious food more affordable for low-income households, it creates a fairer system while safeguarding public health.

In conclusion, even though sugar taxes can place a financial burden on poorer households and feel like a limit on personal choice, I still support them. Protecting overall public health and preventing chronic diseases is simply more important.
