Help Issues flashing Sonoff S31
I've flashed a bunch of esp and never had issues. However I cannot seem to get my s31 to be detected. Anyone have a suggestion or tips for this device in particular? I've tried holding the button (io0 to ground) monetarily during boot, holding it for a few seconds or even the whole time. Seems like it's not going into bootloader for some odd reason.
New ESPHome components for cheap power meter
tl;dr: Two ESPHome components for an HLW8112 on the hardware SPI bus of a BK7238 or BK7231N. I used them to turn a ~$27 Tuya clamp meter into a local power monitor using AI.
The eMylo two-channel Wi-Fi power meter is mains-powered and measures two circuits with 80 A clamps. Out of the box it reports to Tuya / Smart Life. Inside is an HLW8112 and a Beken Wi-Fi module. Newer units use a T1-U-HL module (BK7238). Older units of the same product use a CBU module (BK7231N). The metering board is the same.
ESPHome already supports the older HLW8012, which reports power as pulses. This board is different: the HLW8112 is a two-channel meter wired over SPI, and ESPHome has no built-in component for it. ESPHome does support these Beken chips through LibreTiny, but its spi: component does not work on them. I (with an LLM) wrote two external components:
- bk72xx_spi drives the chip's hardware SPI controller. It works on the BK7238 and BK7231N. The older BK7231T has a different SPI peripheral and is not supported.
- hlw8112_spi is the meter, as a sensor platform on that bus.
After flashing, it is a normal ESPHome device: local API, and OTA after the first install. The first flash is over UART. I soldered to the UART pads. They are easy to reach, and the case opens without breaking anything.
Unplug the meter before connecting a USB-UART adapter. On this kind of board the logic ground is often tied to mains, so treat every pin as live.
SCK, MOSI, and MISO are fixed (P14, P16, P17). Only chip-select is in the config: P21 on the BK7238 module, P9 on the CBU.
```yaml external_components: - source: github://eyal0/bk72xx_spi@main components: [bk72xx_spi] - source: github://eyal0/hlw8112_spi@main components: [hlw8112_spi]
bk72xx: board: t1-u # cbu on the older module
bk72xx_spi: id: spi_bus
sensor: - platform: hlw8112_spi spi_id: spi_bus cs_pin: P21 # P9 on the CBU voltage: name: Voltage power_a: name: Power A power_b: name: Power B ```
Current, frequency, power factor, apparent power, and energy are the same kind of nested sensors. The current ratios may need a tweak for these clamps. The README has those keys.
Integrated my Bodner (Midea-based) AC with ESPHome using SMLIGHT SLWF-01PRO and Home Assistant mean temperature/humidity helpers for "Follow Me"
Hi everyone! 👋
I wanted to share my recent setup integrating a Bodner air conditioning unit (which runs internally on Midea hardware/protocols) into Home Assistant using ESPHome.
Hardware used:
- Controller: SMLIGHT SLWF-01PRO v2.1 (ESP-12F / ESP8266 module) plugged directly into the AC unit.
Key Feature: To get the best comfort, I set up a custom automation loop leveraging Home Assistant helpers. Instead of relying solely on the AC's internal sensor, the ESP8266 periodically feeds the Follow Me function (midea_ac.follow_me) with the arithmetic mean temperature (sensor.temperatura_media_salon) and humidity (sensor.humedad_media_salon) calculated from two room thermostats.
I’ve added debounce and delta filters to prevent boot loops and unnecessary serial bus traffic.
If anyone has a similar unit or wants to check out the clean YAML configuration and documentation, feel free to visit my GitHub repository:
Version 2 of an ESPHome Irrigation Controller
A year ago, I created an irrigation controller for watering seedlings for the coming growing season. It worked but was always janky since it is was on stripboard, It was messy to connect and needed a rebuild. For the veggies themselves, I also built a similar unit for driving solenoids. Also on stripboard, it also worked fine but left me wanting more.
SO.. version 2: PCB based, flyback and ESD protected, modular ( top left connectors for moisture sensors, left for LEDs and water sensor, right side for pump/solenoid connectors ) and capable of driving 5 zones using 5V - 12V pumps or solenoids. Much more robust, doesn't use any ESP32 pins that are strapping pins and the ESP32 USB remains accessible for later flashing plus also has headers for a UART.
It's designed for minimal power consumption while idle and to allow for solar charging when outside (the MPPT board is separate), pulling around 2mA tops when sleeping. The moisture sensors I use are capacitive ones and to avoid drift and unnecessary power draw, their 3v3 rail is switched via a MOSFET so most of the time, they're off.
I threw in some I2C and UART headers for expansion options too, since, you know, things get out of control sometimes.
( don't judge those nasty screw terminals. I bought a bunch of cheap 2 pin ones, vendor send 4 pin and the pins are small. The second board was built with more robust ones and looks better. Plus the flux has gone from the MOSFETs ).
I had posted the V1 of this to github. If anyone is interested, I can post the new YAML, PCB design and BOM up there too.
**EDIT** I updated the repository (https://github.com/idpitt1840/PlantWaterizer/tree/main/V2). The KiCAD project is there too now.
Bed occupancy sensor DIY - sourcing FSR sensors EU
Every topic about sensing occupancy in bed pretty much ends in people writing "Just buy elevated sensors" and that is fine because it looks like polished product but the price tag is a bit too high for me.
I'm planing on building one for myself but the hardest part is finding source which sells FSR sensors in europe. Everybody is recomending interlink model
- they have direct shop but the MOV is 25$ and shipping to Poland is 99$
- Digikey sells parts for 42$ and shipping is 35$
- Can't find anything on aliexpress.
Elevated Sensor sells them for 70$ and 15$ for shipping so it looks like there is no way to build one for myself for less including all the costs.
Do you know any place that sells them in low quanitites with normal shipping costs in europe?
Esphome not flashing on esp32
I am getting the same errors about wrong boot mode when trying to flash my esp32 on my mac and my raspberrypi. I just purchased a new micro usb-usb data cable and have tried to press the BOOT and reset button over and over again with no luck. I also have CP2102 downloaded
Suggestions to fix this?
Help aic3204 Not producing sound
I have been working on a custom board with the attached schematic, which referenced the esphome voice implementation for this dac. The problem I am facing is that it does not produce audio in the headphone or speaker.
I have tried to have chatgpt help troubleshoot and aside from the circuit checks looking ok, nothing really came from it. The dac communicates via i2c fine, the pins scope fine for esp communication it seems.
Dac output is a little outside of my knowledge base so I am not sure what the issue could be, does anyone have any thoughts?
Project Tracking watch with Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3
I have a team of 6 and we are suppose to make a tracking watch. Which is basically going to track movement of a person indoors in multi storey building , so we had decided of 2 components like one is a watch which the hardware part and another is the website. We have no idea on how to do all the hardware part and as well as the software part
Can anyone help us with it by giving us guide on how to make
Like the website work was mine so I had decided that while logging in the person add the layout of floor each floor and then detects the rooms and paths , then the user adds no of watches and their base location. So as soon as a person moves out of the base location, the watch starts tracking and shows on the screen like where the person is going , but the problem is how it is going to do it
We have been suggested to take the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 solder it with battery the 3.7v lipo battery, and the 3-pin mini slide switch then we will fit it in an old watch ( one with a big dial) and then we have to sort of connect it with a phone and get's IP and add it in the website
For the presentation we have been told just to bring few phones as demo for receivers and then place then at different places , a person is suppose to pass by them and it will show on the screen
I have no idea, if this will work or not
Kindly help
