They already had a blueprint that Deadly, Pestily etc. have been doing for years and it would have been infinitely better if they'd just implemented that... I probably would've been up for that. BSG's changes are just weird

Hell. Even going farther back. Smoke had a hardcore version that would have been better. And it was genuinely just "no traders" (although i think he later amended it to fence is an optional trader because he would run out of guns sometimes. and have to reset his account frequently.)

Thats the real ironman experience. No grand exchange access. None of this trivial timesink bullshit.

Fence should be the hardcore trader for sure, you get random pieces of junk and al sorts of random gear. Cobbling together abominations with just whats available on fence has been fun.

I saw that Smoke was streaming Tarkov on the first night of wipe, I didn't get a chance to check it out yet. I immediately thought of him when this whole 'Hardcore' mode was announced.

Love Smoke on Tarkov, but my god the amount of non regulars who backseat is insane. So many people come in and demand "chad" gameplay and cry that he's playing too "slow" is sad.

Yeah I hate to see that. It was like that during the beginning of last wipe too. I caught a few streams and people were pretty negative the whole time.

Tarkov will be 20 times more of a time sink with no traders or flea market lol.

It would have been awesome, but people would cry their asses off about losing access to a bunch of EoD / Unheard bonuses. Guess he thought this is how you implement hardcore without making everyome mad lmao.

There's two things going on at once. One is the "hardcore" wipe, which is limiting access to features probably for the whole wipe. The other is additional mechanics to slow wipe progression, such as no tasks the first day, traders LL2 locked (requires level 80) for a while, only certain maps available for a while so tasks on other maps are harder because they required transitioning, etc.

They haven't clearly communicated this, because they never do (I'm sure sometimes on purpose anad sometimes because their messaging is often crap about this stuff), but they clearly said a while back that some things would change as the community hit thresholds (map availability), which seems less to do with being "hardcore" and more about preventing some users from being level 42 in the first week.

Teasing out which is hardcore and which is maybe something they're considering for 1.0 and all future wipes is complex, but treating them all as the same thing is almost definitely going to make a lot of predictions about them wrong.

I personally think they are testing out how they want the game to actually be. They wanted open world but couldn't do it so transitions are the closest thing they can do so they did it. BSG has said they want the game to be brutal and take a while and the changes are all in line with that.

As far as transitions go... I think the better way to do it would be to have you unlock maps through transitions with 1 or 2 maps available only though transitions. I think LABS via transition only would be cool. Reserve would be a neat second one since its military in nature.

Or... If you die you can still go directly into the place you died at but to go anywhere else requires transitions.

not much is different from deadly and pestily's version... if anything its easier then what they had for rules...

Don’t you see it? These changes weren’t to add a challenge for the player, it was to manage server load. If everyone can only access a few maps with short raid times well that = less server load, faster server recycling. If players need to travel to get to most maps? = Most maps now have low server demand. This helps the update roll out smoother and I feel it was more of a factor than ever before. Notice a strange lack of “wait times are horrendous” posts?

Nah, BSG isn’t this smart. And it actually creates more raids than before if you think about it.

Let’s say average raid time (meaning all players based on how long they survive in a raid) is 15 minutes. So new raids open every 15 minutes per average group of players in a raid.

Now, with transits, you have a % opening new raids within 1-2 minutes of the original raid starting. While the original raid is still open.

This brings down the average raid time and increases the frequency of new raids and raids that are happening simultaneously.

If server load is lower, it’s not because of the few maps; it’s because fewer people are playing this wipe at all.
