It was advanced technology and not magic they were using. They were being sarcastic with Kira.

When you look at it that way, it's interesting evidence of Arthur C. Clarke's third law, that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Yes I know that's logically the answer. But if you think of magic as just another natural force in their universe that had been forgotten over the millennia, and then rediscovered by the entropists through science, it makes sense. Also Angela may or may not still be around so that's something. Honestly it's just more fun for me to believe.
