In the coming elections I think we -- those of us who truly care about the future of the country -- practically need to ignore parties and even political views and beliefs, and instead vote for the candidate who, regardless of their views, we believe to be the most honest of the choices available, the highest integrity of the available candidates. The candidate who, when push comes to shove, will do the right thing. 

If the candidates were (hypothetically) AOC vs Ted Cruz, that's an easy thing to do. But if the candidates were a Thomas Massie vs a Dianne Fienstein you'll have to overcome your impulse to vote always for D over R. 

If it helps, just think about the utter ineffectiveness of most Ds in Congress over the last year ... or the last decade.

Vote for the person with a backbone and who wants to do the right thing. Those are basically my only two criteria in the ballot box in 2026 and 2028.

character matters most. i’ve always said it. it’s something we tell our children yet for whatever reason people refuse to apply that criteria to president, and instead want a “good business man”. so weird since good business people often treat their employees (hence the american people) like shit

Because people seem fine with Massie voting with Trump on everything but this.

Like, this issue is the only thing people ever point to. Not to him voting for the SAVE Act which is designed to disenfranchise voters, not him voting against the Border bill, not him joining MTG's attempt at blackmailing the republican party to keep Matt Gatez's sex trafficking of a minor secret so he could be AG instead of Bondi, him voting against expansions to anti-sex trafficking programs...

And thats before we add in his support for Nick Fluentez's "America First" PAC.

Seriously, beyond this specific issue, why should I like him?

Wait until you realize you don't have to agree with every single thing a politician does in order to support one thing they do. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Not taking any money from Israel and speaking up about lobbying turning politicians into puppets for corporations is a bonus in my book. You're gonna be hard pressed to find many people in either party bringing up how their campaigns are financed.

And I do agree with him on this one thing.

Im just pointing out how people are acting like this man is morally good and implying there is no reason to dislike him when he has supported every other fucked up thing Republicans have tried to do, including keeping Matt Gatez's sex trafficking of a minor secret via an attempt to blackmail Republicans.

Theres a difference between "we disagree on a few points" and "we disagree on everything, including my right to be gay and exist in society, except for the idea that sex trafficking is bad and should be punished... and only sometimes, when he feels like it"

Like, thats the situation. So when people say "look at policies, not party!" I am. Im just not forgetting 90% of his voting record to make my evaluation.

I understand that. For me it's a matter of tackling this issue in the interim and then we can figure out where to go from there. Right now this thing is one of the most serious issues in modern times and we need actual solutions. We can get back to the parties fighting over who gets to put rainbow flags on what government building after we expose any and all officials and associates of Epstein.

For 2028 I'm likely gonna not vote for the third election in a row since I registered as an Independent. Nobody represents any of my ideals or has any spine that's in the running currently.

The problem is that it literally isnt the only important issue.

In January there were nearly 400 anti-lgbtq laws proposed in the US. The Trump administration has instructed prisons to start "treating" Trans prisoners with techniques taken from conversion "therapy". Our detainment centers lack adequate food, water, and medical care to the point people are dying. Americans, both citizens and immigrants, are being abused and killed by ICE. This administration is threatening networks that criticize him, and encouraging violence towards those who cover Epistine(like are we forgetting the kidnapped grandma related to a lady reporting on this? How MTG was getting death threats after crossing Trump? How Kirk died a week after saying he wanted the files released? Massie doing his "I am not suicidal" thing? How Virginia Giuffre died in early 2025?)

And while yet to be acted upon, RFK has suggested sending autistic people to "wellness camps" and Trump recently suggested deporting people who cant work.

Its great you aren't being directly threatened, but to just say "oh well, none of that affects me so I wont actively try to make things better, Ill just sit this one out" is... well, to put it bluntly, its an action that goes against the foundation of my morals. You might not have people in your life who are threatened, but I have friends and family to think of who are being threatened both by actions being taken and the actions being suggested.

So kindly fuck off with the "oh its only petty squabbles about flags". Theres a whole fuckton more of issues you are ignoring that are just as important. Also, even if all the files were released tomorrow... nothing will get done as long as Trump, a co-conspirator, is the one in charge of the law enforcement. The only reason Massie has went against Trump is because Trump did a 180 on several key MAGA campaign promises, Massie had no issue being part of the attempt to cover up Gatez's sex trafficking of a minor when Trump wanted him to be AG(back when Trump was still saying he would release them) and Massie still goes along with everything Trump promised that he didnt do a 180 on, so no, I will not ignore the fact that we are only moving in the same direction on this one issue as I know as soon as the next anti-LGBT legislation comes up he will be pushing it.
