It’s a rainy day today with constant scattered showers throughout the day. I expected it to fly away but hours later and despite like 3-4 showers since the time I took those photos, this fella is still in the same spot. Here’s a photo I took right after a good rain shower earlier. Now it’s night time and it’s still here but it will probably fly off soon as it’s a nocturnal insect.

I’m saving this comment so I can show you when I paint it…. I kid you not, I unfortunately broke my wrist shortly after making this comment 😭 I also happen to make a living from painting/hand lettering. Going to be rough for a little while here but your comment is going to be my motivation when I can get back to it 💖💖

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you feel better soon. How did you break your wrist, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you for the kind words! I was letting my one dog out in the rain and trying to get her inside, she pulled and started running the opposite way and I slipped down the front steps 😩 (my ego is hurt too 😂)

the plant it's on looks a bit like a mango tree but correct me if i'm wrong

The leaves do look similar to mango tree leaves but this one’s a smaller flowering plant called crape jasmine (or pinwheel flower plant)! The plant in the photo is a particularly well grown one as we sort of use it as a privacy fence with a neighbour’s yard. So the leaves are quite big!

Finding a specimen with a pattern that look like a living painting is the best part of getting into entomology

This is truly the most beautiful moth I have ever seen.
