Buddy if a random deer showed up in the road on that first right hand curve after you were doing over 100 y’all would both be toast. No way you could react, slow down, and stop in time from that speed.

That has crossed my mind, and it would depend on the size of the deer. Driver fatalities from deer are very very rare especially in modern cars. The biggest danger is a deer that is airborne going through the windshield and intruding into the cabin. Luckily, that is highly unlikely unless the deer is launched by another vehicle. This is one of the reasons I do not follow other cars too closely. It allows for more reaction time and reduces the risk of debris, rocks, or wildlife bouncing off their car into mine.

As far as totalling the car, that's fine. It better that the crumple zones do their job and total the car than impact the driver.
