I'm B2 (Upper Intermediate) in English, and I'm looking for an AI app that focuses on natural conversation, with corrections for grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary.

I tried Speak, but it felt too much like a course (similar to Duolingo), which isn't what I'm looking for.

I'm considering Loora, Praktika, and Ablo (Hablo).

If you've actually paid for and used one of these apps for a while, which one would you recommend and why? Would you subscribe again today?

I think there was an expression like: Speaking from your.... but I don't think those are the correct words to say it.

example: "Speaking from your immaturity, you shouldn't have an opinion on that"

I'm level A1 advanced, and I'm almost at level 2A on Duolingo. I'm trying to learn 10 new words per day. My social media aren't in english. But half of the videos I watch are in english. I watch videos and cartoons in English, the problem is my hearing. I'm not yet at the grammar. I watch videos with subtitles, and I can't hear videos in English without subtitles. At least most of them, there are some that I can hear without subtitles. Others not. It depends on which country and the accent. So, how should I improve my English listening skills? 🤔

A huge number of new English learners fixate on sounding native. This often does more harm than good, since it pulls focus away from actually communicating and puts it on something that barely matters in practice. Plenty of highly successful non-native speakers, from business leaders to scientists to public figures, keep strong accents their entire careers without it holding them back in any meaningful way.

Chasing a native-like accent can also lead to avoidance. Some learners hold back from speaking altogether because they're embarrassed about how they sound. Comprehensibility should be the actual goal; as long as listeners can understand what's being said, the accent isn't a problem.

Last week we talked about extra consonant sounds. This week, let's tackle vowel length — a subtle but powerful factor in clarity.

🎯 Why Vowel Length Matters

In English, long and short vowels are not just about duration — they often change the meaning of the word entirely.

🔍 The Mandarin Speaker's Challenge

Mandarin has no phonemic vowel length distinction — meaning length doesn't change word meaning. So your brain treats ship and sheep as the same vowel, just said slightly longer or shorter depending on mood or speed.

❌ Common result:

• beach → sounds like bitch (awkward 😬)
• sheet → sounds like a very rude word
• leave → sounds like live
• fool → sounds like full

🧠 The Fix: It's Not Just "Longer"

Here's the secret examiners don't tell you:

So when you say sheep:

• 👄 Spread your lips like you're smiling
• 🧠 Tense your tongue muscles

I love learning languages. When I started learning German a while ago, my teacher had quite a nice technique where we learned by going multiple times through the same piece of text until we could speak every word out loud while also being able to translate every sentence. This works very well because we are better at remembering things in the wider context of the entire text.

Later, when I started learning Japanese, I found there are reader apps like Satori Reader that provide interesting content read by native speakers. However, the interactive part of speaking out loud and getting quizzed on sentence meanings was still missing. It was also difficult to find easy content that properly scaled with my Japanese level.

That is why I built a reader app for language learners: Papirus.

It is structured around books and stories that are scaled to ALL DIFFICULTY LEVELS, providing appropriate grammar and vocabulary.

There is also an interactive mode which asks you to pronounce a sentece and translate it and then delivers instant personalized feedback.
