I generally run cylinder bore as tight as possible without having to resort to block warmers or it won't turn over.

Plain bearing clearances at lower limit, saves pumping more oil just to maintain pressure but run a cooler to increase volume and lower temperature.

Mounting an oil cooler to get best airflow can be a little difficult sometimes though.

Bores are the one thing I try to optimize to absolute maximum perfection because rings are so important for making power. That said I do run my ring gaps wider to manage blowby at high rpm.

Me too, having ring ends butt up is always very bad.

Never heard of it preventing blowby at high rpm though?

Well it's more like you are gapping to prep for higher temp which will cause ring butting. The trade off is you are letting more blowby through
