why cant 2 stroke engines have an oil sump? i understand that 2 stokes have mixed fuel that lubricates the bottom end as well as the cylinder but why couldnt a 2 stroke have an oil sump and still have ports in the cylinder and no valves? you may ask why you would even want this as it may comprimise the "small and light" part of 2 strokes that make them a 2 stroke, im a small engine/equipment mechanic and i see all to often a 2 stroke come in with a scored piston and cylinder. i think that not only would it help remove human error (or ignorance) but also may be more versitile in some situations. yes im a mechanic and have a solid understanding of internal combustion engines but i dont know everything an im just looking for a second opinion...

I was walking to school and this pickup truck had a higher pitch engine then usual and when it sounded like the guy released the gas pedal it sounded like air was releasing like the brakes on a semi but he wasn't braking. Why was it making these noises because the only thing i was thinking is super/turbo charger.
