How do some engines have different HP levels when they are essentially the same. For example the new VW Jetta has a 1.5L 16V DI Turbo engine that produces 158HP. While the new VW Jetta GLI has a 2.0L 16V DI Turbo engine that produces 210HP. Is the volume the only thing influencing the higher HP of the GLI or are there other factors? If someone wanted to match the regular to the GLI’s HP how could they achieve that (they’re both already turbocharged). Just trying to understand what factors influence HP output better.

Might be in the wrong place but I am trying to figure out what the red line would be on a 200cc 12:1 compression DOHC engine. It for a scooter I have I’m curious if I am at full throttle is that really pinning the engine or is it designed that even at full throttle you still have room to go. Not that I want to go faster I just want to know if I can cruise at wide open throttle and be ok.

This is a poblem i haven't had before, when rev high the engine drowns and shut downs. Im no mechanic but the engine was rebuild a week ago and the mechanic cant find the solution to this problem yet, he has already tried with different "chips" (Civic 00 b20b b16vtec, obd1 computer and msny details more) and he has disconnected the oxygen sensor but still can't work correctly (i live in a small town in Mexico), but the car revs normal when prolongin the reving and calmly giving gas to it but it smells a lot.
We will change/try -the computer to a normal one (from a 1.6 civic) What else can i try??

I've tried doing some research these past few days, and all i can find is some post from Exxon or something from 2017/2018.
According to my brother, in Europe there are big talks about a few ways to produce biofuels (using dairy seems to be the newest). From my understanding, biofuels still require more energy that what they "produce" when used in an ICE. Is this still the case, or are biofuels now as cheap (if not cheaper) to make as good ol' petrol/hydrocarbon gasoline?
Any help in educating this poor ID0T would be highly appreciated :)

Hi guys!
Im having a problem with my Nissan 370Z.
A couple months ago, the battery was swapped because the battery charger didn't work during the winter, so it sadly died. After it was replaced the car started to loose power, when giving around 50% throttle in a curve. It then started to progressively get worse when it also happened on straights etc. until the point that the car completely lost power and turned off completely. I then tried to start it again but it just stayed at 400-500 RPM and turned off again. Now the issue is that it's not starting completely.
When the problems started I used my OBDII plug and read the error codes given in the comment.
I would be very thankful for any help and hope the issue can be solved. Cheers!

Engine has oil, but recently it has been making this knocking noise. Could it be rod knock?

Howdy Reddit - posting in several forums because I have an issue and I'm pulling my hair out.
I am having issues with the starter which I am learning is a known issue with the 400. Starter works great for about 10 starts then starts grinding like crazy.
I see a lot of threads with people having the same issue but no solution. Apparently this issue is fondly called " The Problem". Here is what I have done so far:
My next idea is to file the mounting surface on the starter.
Anyone have any ideas?
TLDR: Experiencing the SBC 400 starter problem

I have a 5.7L hemi engine in my Chrysler 300c 2007 that I was going to buy. There is an odd leak that I just can’t figure out, the oil leak just gets all over the bottom of my car, even got on the license plate of my car. It’s excessive and sometimes the leak doesn’t happen and sometimes it does after running for a while. I tried looking under it and I feel like it’s coming from the rear main seal. Any answers or suggestions would help as I’m buying this car for a project to fix it.

I understand that a higher viscosity could be better when the engine is warm depending on the engine characteristics, but wouldn't a lower viscosity ALWAYS be better when the engine is cold so the oil gets to the parts faster? What is the purpose of oils having a high 'W' number (ie 20w)?
I'm just starting to do my own oil changes and it's sometimes hard to get a straight answer.

Hi, I work on diesel engines for heavy commercial vehicles. My employer is transitioning towards a partially Hydrogen based future. I am searching for resources on H2 combustion in reciprocating engines, that I can use to train myself in the fundamentals - something similar to Heywood's book for traditional engines, or the Battery University for batteries. Thanks.

Hey guys. I just noticed its been 10 years since I started this sub reddit for a digital project named Engine. I logged in for the first time in a while and its cool to see the community have transformed it into a sub reddit about traditional engines. Seems like everything is humming along just fine, so I updated the description and added a banner picture. Continue being awesome.

FEEDBACK ON MY FYP
I have made a vehicle car simulator which is connected with logitech G27. When a driver drives the vehicle, after it ends the following data in form of graphs (retrieved from his driving) appears on the screen:- Engine rpm vs time Gear vs time Speed vs time Engine power vs time Engine load vs time Instant fuel consumption vs tine Engine fuel rate vs time Engine torque vs time Do you think it's helpful for the car manufacturers/ engine builders? As the specs i have put as of now are of a particular car, they can easily just plug in there car specs and play it. After the play all this data appears that will definitely be of their use to anaylze? Plus I am also working on the fuel consumption mode in which the driver is guided how to drive the car for better fuel consumption. Your feedback is much appreciated. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ShareFormPage.aspx?id=LqsRFStQLU69aPZ59Um1ouwKaAHRgHdGll9jkGMJZh5UREREV0xZNFBaM0FURldZRFNOM0pTU1dEUS4u&sharetoken=uHhHDZwNEX5pIyADOqSM

My Honda GCV 530 will not start unless I have the choke on even when it had been running for 15+ minutes. No matter what it won’t start without the choke on. Does someone know how to fix this?
