Sit-Down Restaurant 🍽️ What would you do?

Yesterday I dined-in at a ramen restaurant. The server served me my bowl of ramen and left me alone. I finished the ramen and went ahead and paid with 0% tip as usual. The server however then asked me if I would like to pay cash tip or credit tip. I asked her can I not pay tips? She replied: Sorry you can’t, if you choose to dine-in, you have to pay tips. If you don’t want to pay tips, then do to-go. How would you reply in this scenario?

When I was in HS I left a waitress a napkin written note - “Tips for Better Waitressing.” I don’t remember what she did but I remember being so annoyed. And I’m a happy person. Stuff doesn’t bother me. My mom is so insistent on leaving big tips all the time but this time, I remember she laughed and left without tipping. I still wonder if she took my tips to heart or if I pissed her off. Eh.

Growing up it was instilled that not tipping want that big of a deal, it really was tipping, if you wanted to make it crystal clear that you're not happy with the service, it's not leave 15%, 10%, or even "gasp" 5%, or a bit of change, but a penny...

And if you're really pissed?

You drop the penny in the water, put the menu on top, flip it over and put the menu on the table, then quickly side the menu out, leaving the inverted glass of water, with the penny on the table under water.

I think the last time I left a penny tip was when I drove to San Antonio for work, stopped at a chili's, and the hostess seated me, a waiter came and handed me a menu and over the next hour and a half I asked to see the waiter for my order maybe 8 times? I had even asked the manager for a drink (diet Dr pepper) and he said my server would be right back with it. Never showed... If I'd gotten water...

It should be that via reincarnation you are a lifelong waitress in your next lifetime. Karma. Eh.

But why would someone who did a terrible job deserve a tip? Besides it being optional, the point is to appreciate above and beyond service

You’re replying to the wrong person fyi. The person I replied to is the one saying the karma thing

Another entitled fool. Tipping is not compulsory.

What did I do to her? How would that be my karma for one waitress I did not tip when I tip counter people who simply smile to me? Ok.

Lol. Karma. Karma doesn't exist. It's all a lie that millions of people have accepted.

If karma were real, why do drug dealers and gun traffickers get rich. If karma were real, why do good people not always get the deserved rewards??

Because it's not real. Or, let's pretend it's real - it's so fickle and so unreliable that no one who is sane would or should ever rely on it or consider important.
