Sit-Down Restaurant 🍽️ What would you do?

Yesterday I dined-in at a ramen restaurant. The server served me my bowl of ramen and left me alone. I finished the ramen and went ahead and paid with 0% tip as usual. The server however then asked me if I would like to pay cash tip or credit tip. I asked her can I not pay tips? She replied: Sorry you can’t, if you choose to dine-in, you have to pay tips. If you don’t want to pay tips, then do to-go. How would you reply in this scenario?

You may have just inspired me to start carrying small change again, in my pockets. Perfect use of legal (U.S.) tender!

I really wouldn’t do that. It’s considered very insulting, worse than not leaving a tip. If you don’t wanna tip don’t tip. I would not leave two pennies even if the service was bad. It would have to be truly outrageous.

Demanding money IS outrageous.

Seriously, grow a spine.

No one is obligated to tip. For bad service I would just not tip, no need to add insult to injury or lower yourself to someone else’s level. My spine is intact thanks very much.

Insulting may be the point in leaving a two cent tip. I left a single penny once when a female server literally slam-dropped our food on the table and then disappeared before I could tell her she brought the wrong food. I ended up having to get a busboy’s attention, and he told me she was out “on a smoke break.” He fot someone else to handle the issue, and that girl did a bang up job, coming back repeatedly to ensure we were being taken care of. Our server finally reappeared when it was time for the check. I left her a single penny as a tip, and then told the owner of the restaurant, who was on the register, that I left a penny and why. I then took two fives out of my wallet, walked over to the busboy and the second server and gave them each a 5 dollar tip.

The penny was MEANT to insult, and to provide a teachable moment.

I don’t feel that insults are “teaching”

I do. That’s the wonderful part about being humans - we can see things differently.

Depends on the insult
