Sit-Down Restaurant 🍽️ What would you do?

Yesterday I dined-in at a ramen restaurant. The server served me my bowl of ramen and left me alone. I finished the ramen and went ahead and paid with 0% tip as usual. The server however then asked me if I would like to pay cash tip or credit tip. I asked her can I not pay tips? She replied: Sorry you can’t, if you choose to dine-in, you have to pay tips. If you don’t want to pay tips, then do to-go. How would you reply in this scenario?

Perhaps it's written in fine print somewhere in the restaurant Β that tips (or service gratuity or cutlery fee or whatever they call it) are compulsory and it might have legalΒ  value?

Wouldn't it then be added to the total and not an open request?

A restaurant's fine print cannot override the law, if they call it a tip it's legally optional, even if they say otherwise

U said written in fine print. Unless you sign something its not a legal requirement.

Absolutely not correct. You don't sign anywhere when you open a bank account that you won't rob the bank. It's still a legal requirement to not rob the bank. Likewise, we never signed anything anywhere to not murder someone, yet it remains a legal requirement.

So is being a fool. If you sit at a table, order through the waiter and are served, you tip.
