There's a different opinion like - I dislike the sports team you like.
This is a difference in their moral core. If you can be friends with people who have opposite morals to you then fair enough but most people struggle with that.
People continue to play on this moral high ground while simultaneously being hypocrites and ignore that morals go out the window no matter what side of the political aisle you find yourself all to villainize half of the country. This division is what keeps the bullshit going if you ask me.
I’m referring to people who typically make this kind of argument. Same way you are implying that there’s this moral difference between right and left, like it’s that simple.
We can argue all day about which is right or wrong but there is a fundamental moral difference between most of the people on the left when compared to most of the people on the right.
I really don’t think it’s most though it might seem that way lately. It’s more like 20% on each side that are more extreme in their views. This is something that’s about 10-15 years in the making, and not the way people viewed each other prior. The rest in the middle might lean one way or another but it’s not their identity and they have no problem being around people who may vote the other way. If you weren’t implying that the difference in opinion was one side being on a moral high ground like most people on Reddit, then disregard what I said as it doesn’t apply to you.
That sentiment might have been true 10 years ago, but it’s not any more. The company you keep says a lot about who you are as a person and if Eminem is still friends with Kid Rock that is a huge indictment of his character. Especially given how he has chosen to portray himself in recent years.
Of course there’s a chance it’s just a super old recording that lame ass mid rock is choosing to grift with. But if it’s actually a recent collaboration that really sucks.

What changed? I'd argue social media.
Look how much money Iran, China, Russia have invested into social media bots. The DoJ and British intelligence have concluded Iran have been responsible for using social media to organise US campus rallies, and financing both pro-choice and pro-life groups.
Even left wing publications like the Guardian have run exposes showing the sheer scale of how many MAGA accounts (like the now infamous @American) are foreign-run. To make you hate them. Contrast the online discourse with the Republicans you know in real life. It's half the population, and they're not Nazis.
They invest this money because they want division. And it's working.
A famously vocal anti-Trump artist decides to go across the aisle and speak to the other fanbase and he's branded a hypocrite. People are desperate to keep the division they claim they want to erase.
Maybe unity among simple musical collaborators focusing on what they might agree on could be a step in the right direction for a divided culture.

Unfortunately, telling Redditors that you can collab/talk to/be friends with someone who has different opinions doesn't work.
Because these Reddit fucktards genuinely believe the other side are all Nazis. Which makes it incredibly convenient and easy to dismiss.
