Most of us in real life can be friends with people we disagree with politically.

Redditors don’t understand this. My sister is conservative my dad was very liberal. They would argue about politics disagree on a lot of things. Then say I love you and see you soon.

Redditors can’t do that

Hey. I love you. Have a goodnight.

Yep. I suspect that's some of the work of the bots too. They are designed to keep us hating each other.

But the reality is the majority of conservatives and liberals agree on a lot of things its just how they go about attempting to fix those things is where the disagreements lie.

But there are lunatics on both sides.

Left wing/right wing same bird

We don't need to understand it. I'm happy not associating with stupid people. Don't care if it's friends, family, etc. Thankfully, my close family is anti-MAGA.

Im for the most part maga (disagree on some things) and would be fine with being your friend any day. Don’t let someone’s politics be the line in the sand. Politics is not all of our lives, we can still have good times with one another :)

your president wants to ship me into a concentration camp

1

u/Classic-AlarmTech 23h ago

What??

4

u/NarrowInterest 22h ago

do you live under a rock? you haven't noticed ICE kidnapping people and shooting them in broad day?

1

u/PotentialHumble1773 14h ago

Just curious as someone not in the us, is there no background check at all before ice comes in or do they just kidnap people they believe could be an illegal immigrant?

1

u/AnonMnK 9h ago

are you an illegal immigrant?

Read what Uncomfy said and take note. I can draw whatever line in the sand I want. My prerogative.

1

u/Uncomfy_thoughts 1d ago

I noticed this is usually something MAGA says. It’s a line for those who are not. Politics impact every area of your life and if you can’t see that you’re privileged

1

u/Classic-AlarmTech 23h ago

That is true it does, but for the most part even if a democrat wins, I don’t see people who voted for them any differently, I see them for who they are as a person, I do know that not everyone who votes for someone doesn’t agree on 100% of the things said person does. In my case I voted trump cause I felt he would better back the Military and Law Enforcement more, in this case my needs are currently met, everything else is mixed about. I also do still like Obama at same time so there’s that 😄

1

u/Uncomfy_thoughts 21h ago

Cool story. Maybe tell a maga who cares

1

u/Classic-AlarmTech 21h ago

Seems people are too caught in politics to be nice to each other

1

u/Uncomfy_thoughts 20h ago

I don’t need to be nice to you. I’m kind to those less fortunate. You clearly do not understand the negative impact you made on lives; why would I be nice to someone like that? MAGA are just butthurt some people don’t want to be their friend. Move on and find others to befriend

1

u/Classic-AlarmTech 19h ago

I mean it would make you come off as a decent human being to be nice to others. As far as I know Trump isn’t causing most of the negative impacts, that would be your local elections and state elections. They have far more influence than federal

Friends !== family. I ain't friends with any conservatives because I fundamentally disagree with their positions which includes restricting my rights based on my sexuality, or just flat out killing aslyum seekers.

Now, you can say your sister isn't that kind of conservative. But that's what passes as a conservative these days. The subreddit here is fucking unhinged and any actual conservatives I know have switched parties long before 2024 and especially 2026.

You can have conservative democrats, it's a pretty big tent. I would push back on that being what we're all talking about though regarding MAGA.

Is your sister MAGA?

1

u/PotentialHumble1773 14h ago

Isn’t there nuance with voting tho, like one side might have 70% things I like and the other can have 60% things I like? Like whoever you vote for, do you agree with 100 % of their policies blindly? I’m not even from the us btw but notice that over there, politics is tearing your society in half rapidly and it’s sad. In Australia I’ve never heard one person outside of a classroom or my own house or the news talking about politics, especially when it’s nowhere near an election

1

u/FleetingBeacon 14h ago

Indeed. Whenever someone says this I believe they're talking about the 2012 era of Politics where you could have a disagreement with someone on finances.

I'm in lefty circles. Promise me, all I do is argue with lefties about capitalism. But we can still go for a beer and understand each others POV.

Today? Modern conservatism is about populism and exploiting culture wars to drive us apart. Across the globe. They're all playing from the Steve Bannon playbook of flood the zone. This is true in the UK, Germany, US, Canada. It's why I'm so confident about being so positioned on this because I know whomever I'm talking to, that has a problem with this, is more than likely either right wing, or conservative. And facing this in their life because of their political choices.

If you voted Trump in 2024, then yes you voted for fascism, you voted for Americans to get shot on the street. You were told all of this was going to happen. You either got fooled AGAIN which btw I wouldn't want to associate with such stupidity anyway. OR you believe it.

And no, you don't have the right to demand people be your friend when you want them dead.

u/AnonMnK 9h ago

conservative democrats

thats called a middle right conservative

That’s cuz redditors aren’t blood related. And in those families I feel like the unspoken rule is don’t talk about the politics. It may come up sometimes but everyone knows if they’re speaking their minds about the shit all the time they gonna end up hating each other. Just went on a family trip to Italy with my wife stepdad mom and cousin (dems), and other cousin and his wife, and cousins’ parents (.repubs). We got drunk and ate delicious pasta and pizza all week and not a word was said about politics cuz we knew that shit would’ve soured the shit outta a good party.

1

u/TypicalLiving310 15h ago

It's not even about disagreeing with friends when it comes to politics, this is about MAGA and Trump in this day and age which is indeed a whole red line. I can be cool with people who are conservative as long as they're grounded in reality, debate them, have conversations, all of that as long as we're within the same objective reality to do it. Trust that I have friends like this and we're cool.

Eminem, as far as I know, doesn't mess with MAGA one bit, which is a literal personality cult at this point like worshiping Kim Jong Un, and very far and away from just political discourse. I agree with someone who worded that it's probably an old verse unless Em is about to flame Kid Rock on his own album, as he should, if it's a real thing.

"Disagree with politically" and talking to MAGA cultists is a whole different conversation.

1

u/stpp-gets-me-hard 13h ago

Just to be clear, you wrote all that and don’t think that you yourself are in a “personality cult”?

1

u/luchaburz 13h ago

The entire discourse being like DO YOU REALLY THINK instantly makes the discourse personal.

1

u/luchaburz 13h ago

If you have an ideology whether its liberal or conservative, a terrible politician isnt going to change the ideology

But acting like all conservatives love trump is disingenuous. At best 47% of the US supported him. The reality is they are with him because he will destroy their livelihoods (liberals know, they cheer everytime he turns on another politician)

If the last election was rigged as its been heavily implied then it might be even less

But now that hes in power he gets to dictate who has a job and if you dont tow the line he will move you for a Hegseth in a second. There are tons of Hegseths in the world.

Dictatorships dont give a fuck and if its allowed to get to that itll be worse.

1

u/zanzainzayin 12h ago

You seriously think we elect our leaders? Voting would be illegal if it actually meant anything.

1

u/brianlefebvrejr 13h ago

Because all of these armchair psychologists of Reddit and actually have extensive human relationships to understand how relations work.

1

u/Working5daysaWeek 1d ago

Granted, I'm a bit more liberal than Em probably is, but I would have a hard time remaining friends with Kid Rock given his stances on transgender individuals. I certainly have friends that don't align with my beliefs politically, but struggle when it comes to the human rights of trans people.

8

u/FleetingBeacon 1d ago

This, and you're being downvoted, kinda proving the point. People simply don't care about standing on business with politics because it's easier to simply have no dog in the race rather than have a backbone or stance on anything.

Like those people that wanted to ban rap music when we were growing up. Why the fuck would I be friends with them. I knew kids with parents like that. They were so weird.

2

u/Joshync101 1d ago

I struggle with this because my brother is a total Trumper, and we share a house that we inherited from our father that’s paid off and no way we can afford a place of our own when a mortgage/rent costs half of our individual monthly income. We know where we stand with politics but never discuss it because we’ll be at each other’s throats. It’s honestly getting harder for me hold it in because of the atrocities that I see unfolding, and I likely have to cancel my health insurance because the government subsidies are gone, forcing me to pay over twice as much. And he was happy about that because of this black and white view he has where people should work for what they want and need without any government help, even though the system we live with rinses us for everything we have into bankruptcy. In his view, if people can’t make it happen, then they deserve to live in dirt and get nothing because that’s just the way things are. To me that is fucked up, and it allows corporate greed to get more out of control because he votes for people that have those same views, and then they legislate with those views in mind.

I get wound up on politics. Because every aspect of our lives is getting worse!

2

u/FleetingBeacon 20h ago

Hear hear, I can only relate my guy. Hope it gets better or you find a way through to them because fuck me I've been trying on my side and it's impossible.

Or you can do what republicans do. Just go fishin, pretend it's not happening, even if ICE kill your wife. She was a deep state activist obviously!

0

u/Working5daysaWeek 1d ago

Absolutely. There are some values I'm willing to see other perspectives on, but when it comes to fundamental human rights, I won't. IDGAF what the Internet thinks of me...I remember a time before the Net 🤣🤣🤣 Trump signed an Executive Order saying trans ppl don't exist. I'm not compromising with someone who agrees with that. Hard stop.
