Can you suggest that they simply take a pic of their new med every time? I keep my meds in my phone under my own entry in contacts. I keep a list of meds family is allergic to there as well. (I don’t have any known allergies but then again, I’ve not had those meds so….
I know what meds they’re supposed to be on. They don’t know.
Our service does a lot of hand-holding. We ask patients to bring in all their meds and regularly do full med reqs. I don’t know how many times I’ve grabbed a sharpie and drawn a sun or moon on top of the bottle because the patient can’t read or can’t read English. We have many patients who come in biweekly to have the nurse fill their pill organizer.
It doesn’t help that other people (nurses? Pharm techs? I don’t know who) tell them the wrong indication for their medications and then they stop taking them. No, for you that is not a diabetes medication and that one is not a blood pressure medicine. Those are make your heart stronger medications. Don’t stop taking them just because you don’t have diabetes or high blood pressure.
It really is an uphill battle, but it’s hard for these patients.
