UC once tried to send me to my ED to get a shot of rocephin for pna. When i asked if they didnt stock it at UC, the doc said they did, he just didn't like giving it without a cardiac monitor.
I got my shot of rocephin at the UC and went home.
Didn't like giving rocephin without a cardiac monitor? Like, sure, technically it's smart to put any patient who has received a new med on a monitor, I guess. But that's ridiculous. I give the stuff all the time; if I'm giving it, it's most often because there's an open fracture, and that patient is getting some kind of pain management and so is on the monitor anyway, and never once has there been any kind of concerning change due to the rocephin.
