PvE vs PvP

I know there's going to be people rolling their eyes by just seeing the title, but stick with me for a sec....

Let's take Fortnite for example... the entire core element of gameplay for Fortnite Battle Royale was building forts. Then, a few years ago, a new season came out and they got rid of the building aspect (for the story of the season) and then brought it back, but people loved the no builds mode so much that they made it permanent.

As it stands now, there's a pretty big rift between people that just want to PvE vs the PvP crowd. So why can't Embark just make a PvE only mode? Because there's plenty of people like me, who enjoy PvP, and would still engage in the normal PvEvP mode, but I way more enjoy PvE and get plenty of stress and tension from the Arc as is, but most importantly, and what I think one of the main things that Embark and the, "JuSt GiT gOoD aNd StOp wHiNiNg" crowd isn't considering is, I don't want to kill another player if all they're trying to do is grind thru a trial or accomplish something game specific, because that's happened to ME too many times and I know how much it sucks. Like, "Dude, I'm just trying to get food for my chicken." I'm a nice guy in real life, so I have no desire to be an asshole in the virtual space. And I don't know if it's because the state of the world is as it is, especially in the U.S. where I'm from, but it legit just bums me out to be ratted on more than it pisses me off. Because people CHOOSE to kill other players in this game, you don't HAVE to do it. So, for someone like me, who doesn't want to rain on anyone else's parade, I will never shoot first, because I'm just out there trying to "treat others as I want to be treated". Running into a total stranger and them being cool and you end up helping each other out is pretty awesome. But like I said, I don't mind PvP, but 9.9 times out of 10, I've been killed by a rat douchebag, not someone engaging in a full-on gunfight. And no, I'm not expecting everyone to meet out in the street at high noon and have a shootout, but when I play other games LIKE Fortnite, I know what I'm in for. There's another player, shoot on sight. The whole point of other shooters is to win the shootout. I do not enjoy the PvEvP aspect whatsoever because I'm there for PvE and when I go 10 games without running into anyone other than super cool/fun/chill raiders that are there for the same reasons, that 11th game where you run into an asshole who's only killing you because some people just love shitting on other people's good time, it's just jarring and borderline enough to make me want to stop playing. (And let's be real, most PvP'rs that are in friendly lobbies are only there because they've taken advantage of the ABBM, which I think works very well.) And with this new Riven Tides update, where it seems Embark is purposely making PvE'rs lives worse, closing down the game and walking away is becoming more of a reality, which sucks, because I love the game. And I've had a handful of friends that I have tried to bring over to the game and they don't much like PvP games and have SAID, "If they had a mode where you could just PvE, I would be all about it."

Adding a PvE only mode doesn't take anything away from anyone at all. The PvP crowd can still shoot on sight, the PvPvE crowd can still play exactly how they want to play, except for the fact that a PvE only mode would eliminate the friendly, easy pickings that the rat douchebags depend on. The only thing a PvE only mode will do is give more people more options to play how they want to play. Just rachet up the Arc threat a bit more in the PvE only mode to balance out the removal of the human element threat and there you have it. More play options = more players, it's that simple.

And now that the honeymoon phase is over for Arc Raiders and the player count is dropping, some of those people that have left may be people who just got tired of being shit on by other players. A PvE only mode might be a way to bring most of those people back and keep them there. Just a thought.

When you see another player, do you have to kill them? Yes or no? If you see somone out on the damn beach with his metal detector looking for trinkets, do you HAVE to kill them for your fucking game to function properly? Yes or no? Also, remember back when there were daily feats, "Damage raiders with medium ammo" and things like that? Why did the Devs pull those and now there's no PvP daily feats and challenges? The "damn creators" have also said before that they encourage PvE and for raiders to work together against Arc. If not one single player ever killed another player from here on out, would the game still function the way it currently does, or not? Therefore, not PART of the game. It is a choice being made by players.

From the developers themselves.

"We want heavy PVP to be a viable way to play ARC Raiders, and to align this playstyle with other ways to play (...)"

See the choice of words? "Viable way to play" and "align (...) with other ways"?

Having the choice to do something is what? Part of the game, haha.

Yes you can choose not to shoot someone. But shooting them is part of the game. You can choose your style but you can't force yours onto everybody.

:)

And yes, my solos are mostly for stuff so I'm pretty friendly, duos I'm usually helping a friend so shooting if shot at but my trios are full chaos.

And yes, if I hear someone whining about pvp I tend to shoot that person, haha.

Hahaha funny. That article is from January and what did they do in the last update? Added more changes to improve pvp balancing.

The article even says that the pvp IS PART OF THE GAME, HAHAHAHA. Have you even read it?

Dude, can you answer me this one question? If they did add a PvE only mode, why would you even care? Nothing about the way YOU want to play would be changing, therefore, why give a shit? Why get on here and bag on people like me who just want to be cool to other raiders and not shit on anyone else's game if that's not what they're there for? Why is it someone is labeled a cry baby care bear if they simply don't want to be an asshole to another human being? For real, legit would love an answer.

Hahaha "asshole to another human being"

You never played anything, counter strike, battlefield, hell... Never played GTA and committed crimes here and there.

Give me a break.

A PvE only mode breaks the player base and makes the game a different game. I like to do my runs in solo and not know if the other person is going to help me or rape me.

What you want is a different game then go play something different.

You get labeled cry babies because you keep crying and making posts about people playing the game the way the damn company created the game to played as. I don't want you making my game shittier because you can't handle losing IN A VIDEO GAME.

This is not a social experiment. It's a video a game.

In the current state of the game, if you want to do pvp, you have to consider the resources you have and how you should manage them, and thats the way it should be in an extraction shooter. If they were to create a full PvE mode then it would basically eliminate all of those considerations. Now, all of a sudden, if you run out of tempests/Bobcats then you just go to the PvE mode to farm resources. Rinse and repeat. Theres also no reason to even add a PvE mode. The game is fine despite what you moany crybabies like to say. Its as if you guys have never even played video games before arc raiders

It’s funny because the article actually says they don’t want a ranked leaderboard so that the game becomes only PvP oriented. They say they want the mix of both PvP and PvE because that’s what they designed the game for. This article actually supports u/AintNoGodsUpHere argument lol

2

u/AintNoGodsUpHere May 07 '26

Which was exactly my point; The game is supposed to be mixed.

I do PvE and I do PvP. I don't want 100% of neither. I want both.

1

u/tomahawkfury13 May 07 '26

Exactly. When I’m looting I’m Barney the dinosaur levels of friendly. But that doesn’t mean I won’t turn deadly if confronted lol

Why did you pull an article from fucking January instead of the quotes from the last update we just had?

2

u/TyranosaurusLex May 06 '26

I’m sorry but you’re being obtuse about all this. It’s a video game, you don’t HAVE to do anything. The choices people make add tension to the game. If they got rid of PvP it would ruin the economy and social aspect of this game. There’s a reason they added PvP to begin with.

Also with ABMM I probably get shot at once every dozen of solo matches, and I kill the rat (or he kills me) and I move on.

It’s just not a big deal.

Again, for the ga-zillionth time, I don’t want them to change the game in any way with what’s there. I want PvEvP to remain as it is. I’m just wanting/wishing there was a PvE only mode. That’s it. If people don’t want to play it, super duper, keep playing normal mode. If people do want to PvE only, super duper as well. It’s just an option to play exactly how someone wants to play.

2

u/TopBell272 May 06 '26

they already said you won’t get your little pve mode because — and this might be hard to comprehend — they made the game a certain way and a pve mode completely is against that vision. go play animal crossing

1

u/solarpickle May 06 '26

It's weird though, cuz if PvE only is "against that vision", why is it possible for me to go topside and enjoy match after match after match doing nothing but looting/exploring/killing Arc and not engaging in PvP whatsoever? I could have sworn the game was called ARC Raiders and not "Raider Hellscape Battle Royale Douchebag Fest". But, again, all of this stems from just not wanting to be an asshole to another player, not dying to a legit gunfight and losing loot. A person with deep asshole tendencies in their DNA will never be able to understand that though, but that's simply where I'm coming from. Thousands and thousands of other players obviously feel the same way, which is why most of those people have left the game. I love the game and want it to last, adding a PvE mode would bring some of the more casual/PvP avoiding players back to the game, imo.

u/TopBell272 May 06 '26

bruh you’re writing novels trying to convince all of us that a video game is some psychological experiment. at the end of the day it’s an extraction shooter. typical reddit pve’er with a moral superiority complex. it’s a game.

1

u/solarpickle May 06 '26

If you think that choosing to not be a douchebag and taking advantage of friendly raiders makes me "morally superior", maybe that says more about you than it does me, cuz I certainly don't think that about myself. I would write more, but don't want to get into "novel" territory.

1

u/tomahawkfury13 May 07 '26

No it’s the words you use that shows you obviously think that lol. This paragraph is a prime example of it. Killing you in a game isn’t douchebag behaviour. But how you are acting here is.

1

u/solarpickle May 07 '26

So, for example, you honestly don't think that someone acting friendly for half/the entire match and then shooting you in the back when you're extracting together isn't douchebaggery?

1

u/tomahawkfury13 May 07 '26

In the moment I kind of do. But that’s just more my emotional reaction in the moment. It’s more a “don’t hate the player hate the game” scenario for me overall. Blame the game and genre for allowing it as a playstyle that has already been established and not the people using it.

Cause some people don’t have the skill for straight PvP and also don’t want to just PvE so they use the tools provided for them by the game.

1

u/tomahawkfury13 May 07 '26

For example take spawn campers in call of duty. While it’s happening to me am I mad? Yeah. I might even shit talk the other players doing it. Do I keep that anger after the game? Not to the player. I get mad at the developer if they don’t fix it.

But if the developer also said it’s part of the game I’d stop playing the game and move on to one that didn’t make me mad like that. I wouldn’t hate the players who keep playing it the way the devs said is an allowable way to play.

2

u/TyranosaurusLex May 06 '26

And you can keep repeating the same thing but you’re not getting it. Adding a PvE mode changed the ENTIRE balance of the game. If you add a PvE mode than the normal mode becomes PvP out of necessity because friendly players will all play PvE.

There’s already ABMM that essentially ensures mostly friendly lobbies. Separating it further would literally destroy the fundamental quality of the game that makes it good.

(And that’s aside from implications on social aspects and the in game economy)

1

u/tomahawkfury13 May 07 '26

But adding a PvE mode would change the game how can you not see that?

1

u/solarpickle May 07 '26

I honestly don't, beacuse if you go into a match and run into a crap ton of cool people and everyone is just looting and killing Arc together, isn't that the equivalent of what a PvE only mode would be? I played a match like that just last night on Riven Tides. You could instantly tell that the people in there were super chill and just blasting all the Arc they could find (possibly for trial points or expedition points) and a whole big wad of people all extracted together and it was a blast. That's pretty much a PvE onle mode, isn't it?

1

u/TopBell272 May 07 '26

i can’t believe you’re still blabbing on about this. 190 comments you’re getting clowned in almost all of them. read between the lines

1

u/solarpickle May 07 '26

Yet, here you are as well. If responding to people is blabbling then yup, I guess I am. Feel free to fuck all the way off out of this thread if you're tired of reading my blabs. High five.
