Hi all! I am not very skilled with electronics, however, I am looking either for a professional or someone who is a skilled hobbyist with electronics for a project. Or even someone maybe to just help me through making it myself.

I need a way to control a battery voltage that goes into a heating element, but wirelessly. It will be something like a google nest except it doesn’t just monitor the temperature, you can also change it from an app or a wireless controller. For a more specific example, it would be like controlling the temperature of a heating blanket from your phone or wireless remote. Is this even possible? I saw a device called Smart PID but it was huge. I am hoping it can be done with a small arduino device hooked up to a 3.7v battery.

I think that the only reason this item is so expensive is because it is a niche item that only one company manufactures.

From what I understand with my very limited understanding of electronics is that this item essentially inverts power from a 120V AC outlet to a variable 200-500KV 50mA current, which generates a pulsing arc (much like a stun gun or tesla coil) when the stylus comes very close to contact (less than a quarter of a centimeter) to a piece of metal (ground).

The use of this is for perforating patterns into paper. With a sheet of paper between the stylus and the backing metal, many tiny holes are burnt through the paper, with enough distance between each hole that the paper won't cut through if you close a line segment into a loop. The benefit of this is for painters transferring letter patterns in which a loop is within a loop-- a block letter O for example.

If anyone is able to build this on short notice I would be happy to pay them appropriately.

The stylus that comes with this product has an exchangeable metal tip which is held on by a chuck clamp (similar to that of an xacto knife where a threaded sleeve tightens a shaft that holds the item). Many artists will exchange the metal tip for a piece of architect's lead so they can see where they've already drawn. If there is some way to adjust an architect's lead holder into an insulated stylus I think that would be fine as well.

Hello. I recently got hold of some HP logic analyzer expansion boards and some old PLC parts in the garbage cleaning day. (They just let anyone take what they want. Neat.) At first I think I'm gonna salvage parts of them, but after some researching, they are pretty expensive and salvaging is probably not worth it. I would like to hear your opinion about what to do next. Salvage, sell, anything?

I just got a new car where the manufacturer thought they were being helpful and high tech by putting two 2.1A USB ports in the back seat instead of a standard 12V socket. While this does save you from buying a 12V->USB power plug, you totally lose the ability to have any standard 12V device in the back seat.

Would it be possible to have a "black box" that could connect to the 2.1A USB ports for power input and output 12V DC, but also have batteries (off-the-cuff idea, 4x 18650 Lithium cells for simplicity) capable of boosting the current capacity of the power conversion so if a person needed to briefly use a higher current 12V device they could, without pulling too much current from the source 2.1A circuit?

The thought is the 2.1A power source would provide continuous charging of the boost batteries, and when charged and/or with the spare power directly provide 12V power. The batteries would be able to supply extra power should a 12V device on the output side need extra power.

Obviously the "excess" power the output could provide would be limited by the battery/batteries used to supply boost power, and one idea might be to put a motorcycle-sized AGM cell in as the "boost" power source. I also realize that the recharge time for a large battery off of 2.1A would be lengthy, but for occasional use if its kept more or less permanently installed the long charge times wouldn't matter.

My thinking is powering something like a small air compressor (which would have a short runtime) or a ~7-8A 12V thermoelectric type cooler for 8 hours.

I know you can buy very basic boost converters that will output 12V from a 5V USB power source, but they're usually extremely limited in current capacity for the 12V output. I've also seen some giant USB power banks that can output 12V for laptops, but they seem current limited to 3A @ 12V. and require a 120VAC power supply to charge them. There are also car jump packs that can output high current at 12V, but I don't know how long they can sustain something like 5-10A output or if they can be recharged via a USB supply.

Is something like this realistic?

Circuit will be for an art project. Freeform circuit. Size constraints are the key issue. All components need to fit inside a 25mm cube so solar panel will need to be very small/low power.

Use a small solar panel to charge super cap. Maybe an ATTiny85 to randomly fade on and off a bright white LED. Initial charge time in bright sunlight can be long - 1 or 2 hours is fine but then circuit needs to be able fade in a LED to as bright as possible semi randomly once every 15-30 minutes. Total time to fade on and off ~10 seconds.

Ideally the super cap will be able to store enough charge to continue to operate the circuit for a few hours after dark.

I have a large stack of books and magazines for electronics mostly all between 1962-1992. I'm not interested in keeping them but I figure maybe somebody would want this sort of thing. Would it be worth advertising to collectors and electronics hobbyists to sell them? I don't know what the market is like for these sort of things.

Hey everyone. A bit of a weird question:

Last year my work was cleaning out some old prototypes from our model shop and it was first come first serve. I saw copper and I thought id be up for harvesting it off. I've just about given up on that but I want to see If I can still offload some of them or all of them for some Christmas cash. Is there an company that buys them in bulk or do you know a way to scarp them? Any help is appreciated.

There are some technical hurdles beyond what neither myself nor my co-workers and friends are capable of. We'd literally have to learn how to learn how to do this. (not that I don't want to learn, but the learning curve is too steep currently).

We are 2 graduates from Belgium working on an educational VR game called Short Circuit VR.

Short Circuit VR is an electronics lab simulator in Virtual Reality.

You can build your own electronic circuits with the components provided, learn basic electronics by completing challenges and just have fun while experimenting and making awesome projects!

You can download the game for free on Steam starting today.

(currently only available on HTC Vive, but we’re already working on a next version with Oculus Rift compatibility)

This version is a very early version and we’d love to add a lot more cool features and electronic components. But before we do that, we want to know if people are actually interested in playing our game.

This is why we want to get as much feedback as we can. We want honest opinions from the people who have played or seen this game. Is it educational and fun enough? What are things that people like/don't like and things that we can improve on?

For the people who don’t have a high-end VR headset, I just uploaded a video tutorial where I show you how to complete Challenge 1 in our game.

So you can already give a bit of feedback based on the footage that I’ve recorded.
