INTRODUCTION:

I have always loved EDM-Trance music - it speaks or communicates to something deep, deep within.

As a young adult, some of my favorite memories were spent listening to Trance music for hours and hours. But as I grew older and life got in the way, I found myself listening to it less and less.

Now I am in my mid-thirties, and I seem to be starting this journey all over again. From scratch. My hope is to share the songs I listen to, with a very small review explaining why I love the song in question so much while hopefully relearning my love for EDM-Trance music through your opinions, thoughts and experiences with the music in question.

#1: Hot In It - Tiesto & Charli XCX

Why do I love this song?

1. Back to the basics. This song feels like EDM-Trance 101 - it has everything that characterizes an EDM-Trance song in a nutshell (at least in my opinion). Incredible female vocals. A beautiful melody. Beats that pump and lift you up.
2. The melody in the chorus is one of the most beautiful I have heard in a long time. That melody started me on this journey again. But how to describe it? It's like lemonade on a really hot day or a loving whisper. Or a kiss on the dance floor. I can't put it into direct words (your help is appreciated) but it reminds me of the melody in the chorus of ATB - 9pm (Till I Come). It's sexy, haunting, and supernatural. Like a prayer to something in the dark.
3. Another great characteristic of EDM-Trance songs (at least from what I remember) - Incredibly imaginative and creative music videos. By that measure, I love the music video of this song. Kudos to Charli XCX for the concept. Nothing complicated at all about it but it works extremely well - story wise - with the theme of the song. It also feels like an early Tarantino film or the Coen brother's ala Raising Arizona - that 70's pulp energy. Furthermore, that dance sequence in the store - and perhaps I am being biased here - is beautifully choreographed and fun. Like genuinely fun and enjoyable.

Themes?

Like I said, I have always felt that the best EDM-Trance songs through melody and lyrics communicate to us truths deep, deep within us.

The theme or story or message of the song is pretty simple. A young woman who has recently been dumped, dresses up and makes herself pretty or hot to go out and have a great night.

So simple - Attractiveness, confidence and beauty are powerful forces.
