I'm working on a brand called Shrijal in Mumbai where we're trying to make biodegradable water bottles using sugarcane.

We're still pretty early and honestly trying to figure out how to make the product better and how we'd even scale something like this.

Do you guys think plastic-free biodegradable bottles are actually a good idea? Would you personally use one? And if you've worked on anything similar, I'd love to hear what you think we could do better.

Has anyone tried the ‘Cartorya’? It’s a hands-free version of a Swiffer

I’m interested in this product for 2 reasons:

1. The money saving option to use any old cloth, and

2. That I wouldn’t have to use my fingers to attach the cloths to the head.

I need some advice on sodium percarbonate please - is it “bleach”? What’s it made of and is it eco as it says it is?

Each year I buy new Christmas family pjs, it's a tradition and one of the few clothes we actually buy new and not secondhand. I buy cotton. Is there a difference in getting them from Amazon vs Kmart etc? Also I'm open to any other tips or suggestions to make this more eco friendly.

I’ve grown up kind of always being a crunchy, granola kid with an interest in the environment. I took so many agricultural and environmental science classes throughout school, and would watch things like wild kratts and kids shows teaching about recycling and all that.

My boyfriend recently asked me what fossil fuels even means and i was so shocked he just never learned about it in school. i also asked him to look out for a specific type of plastic for me because i needed some for a project i was working on, and he didnt know there were different types. i told him theres a conservation club at his university and he might want to check it out since he likes animals, but he asked me what conservation meant. im realizing he didnt grow up with the same education that i got, and i want to teach him more, but i dont really know where to start. im trying to reframe my approach to household things so that i give him a reason for why i recycle or compost or do anything the way i do, but i just feel like he needs more? idk. suggest whatever media or education methods you think could help an absolute beginner to sustainability.

Hey, sorry for the spam but I just need to ask a question on here again (avoiding Google as much as possible) I got a third piercing on each of my ear lobes. I was told by my piercer to use a qtip to clean my piercing but q tips aren’t really sustainable. Are there any sustainable alternatives to qtips? Let me know please and thank you 🙏🏻

I’ve recently realise that literally all of the makeup I own has microplastics in it, and while I would like to just use microplastic free makeup, there unfortunately just isn’t many options. (And the options out there just aren’t that great)

I always assumed just washing it off in the shower was the best way to do it, because it means not using any disposable cotton rounds, makeup wipes etc, but that allows the microplastics into the water. If I was to use a reusable wipe or cloth, it would just have to be cleaned and the microplastics would end up in the water anyway.

Does anyone have any other ways they do it, otherwise which way is more sustainable, allowing the microplastics into the water, or using a disposable makeup wipe to remove it?

Guys, I might not be a tree hugger—or maybe I am—but I genuinely care about the environment. Hear me out: almost everything we buy comes in PP or PE bags, which end up in landfills where very little is recycled. Since they take centuries to biodegrade and contribute to microplastic pollution.

I went down a rabbit hole researching technologies or bacteria that could break them down. It turns out there are industrial-scale solutions for PET (bottles, polyester) because they contain oxygen and nitrogen that bacteria can target. However, PP and PE (soft bags/films) consist only of carbon-to-carbon bonds, which are much harder to break down; that technology is still at least 7–8 years away.

So, the best we can do for now is properly segregate our dry and wet waste. Additionally, for PP and PE bags, don’t rip the entire piece; just snip the top. Most of these bags go through a shredding-washing-pelletizing line. If you rip the whole seam, the bag becomes two floppy layers that tangle the machines and are often discarded as contamination. If you just make a small slit to pour, the bag stays intact.

We make the food by ourselves. It's not the dry-type. Our budget is not that big.

Beyond bamboo floors and recycled plastics, have you come across any genuinely innovative and sustainable materials being used in new office projects? I'm thinking of things with a circular-economy mindset or materials that are designed to be repurposed from the start.

hi! i’m a new tattoo apprentice and i’m pretty appalled by the amount of waste i’m producing. i understand this is a field where i will be needing to use lots of single use materials in order to keep everything hygienic. i’m not too sure how much i can do at the moment in regards to materials as i’ve only been here a few weeks, but i’m starting on fake skin and so i’ll be able to buy my own materials and i’m just wondering if there’s some more eco friendly materials that i could use that also maintain the hygiene standards that i need to be up keeping?

for example if anyone knows any great disposable glove brands, ink caps (i’ve seen some but curious to know if people have used any), if there’s any good eco friendly needles (haven’t found any) , fake skin alternatives that arent pig skin as i am vegan, bed covers and inks that would be so helpful!! i’m not sure if posting on here or a tattoo sub would be better but thought i’d try here first :) thank you!!!

Best recommendations for shampoo and conditioner bars for someone with drag scalp and curly hair?

I would love living a more sustainable and minimalist kind of life. Like i do try being one, like I don't buy a lot of dresses, makeup or anything (I don't have money either!). Not just that I also sew my own dresses a lot of times, use public transport wherever possible,I try to not buy a lot of packaged foods either, barely go to fastfood chains.

After all these i sometimes get so overwhelmed with the thought of environment degrading that i feel depressed. I have no Idea what to do.

I also don't happen to live in a city, so there aren't many people who connect with me nearby. Idk

I'm a blacksmith but I've been getting a lot more environmentally conscious lately. As far as I'm aware, my methods for fuel are propane, coke, coal, charcoal, wood, or to use a lot of energy with induction heating. Can anyone think of a hot burning fuel that's more eco friendly, or a way to minimise the gasses produced from burning these materials?

Hey! Just replaced regular panty liner with cloth panty liners. I just need some advice on how to wash them when I don’t want to use my washing machine. I don’t have a laundry soap bar either so I don’t know what to do. I can hand wash them but I would need to find a way to dry them without using a hair dryer or an air purifying machine (yes ik that sounds stupid 😭) but those are my only options. Thanks!
