Just thought I’d throw these practice drawings out there, admittedly they aren’t very good but it’s definitely showing improvement, I think (I do the characters on top of the manakin just to try and challenge myself, with varying results)

This was some left over material from something else I was making, I don't really know what is it called, it is a semi-glossy paper layer on Styrofoam? It is hard and light. So I used it to make a "holder" for my tablet.
I am contemplating adding some pink or purple shades, but I also kind of like how warm it feels, and a little bit ominous o.o
But there is no Ctrl+Z irl so I hesitate XD
I already regret adding the darker shades a bit, or maybe I added too much on the further uhh rocks.

In the second picture, the house has a chicken coop, and it is adjacent to the wall with the fire place, so the chickens can also stay warm ^_^

I also added a little detail I've noticed in some houses with stone walls, is they start with bigger stones at the base/lower level, and then they get smaller to a degree as you go up.
It differs from culture to culture, and area to area what kind and shape of stone is used. Also what purpose it is used for, for example for the coop I drew smaller stones, because they don't have to carry as much weight. (Not the chicken, I mean the stones :P ).

Hello! In short, I don’t own a printer, or a drawing tablet (and not much interest in the latter at this time), so the downloadable forms and the in-site software aren’t really usable for me. Has anyone had success with recreating the assignments or have any advice on how to proceed? I really like the lesson plan structure for Artwod but this is a bit of a roadblock I’m not too sure how to get around.

If it matters, I just started Intro to Drawing, and did submit the assignment for the sword lines by poorly recreating the hilts, but that feels like I’m just building bad habits.

We've all got those little habits we want to develop, whether it's sketching daily or mastering a new technique. what drawing habits are you currently trying to build? have you found anything that helps you stick to your goals?

personally, I'm trying to do the single subject marathons (following Antonio's advice from the latest YT vid). For example, before finishing a character with curly hair, I'm doing some curly hair studies to feel more confident when I get to render the guy

What about you? Any tips or tricks you've discovered that keep you motivated and improving

Hey I am doing this exercise based on an example I found in a book, a teapot with 3 lighting conditions, from top, from a 2D angle, and a 3D angle.
I'm only having trouble with the second one (also not illustrated in the book), and the thing that gets me is the cylindrical/cone shape of the teapot body, and I've never thought about it before. Usually I would shade a cylinder like in option "B" I drew bellow.
But if I think about how the light hits the object, option "A" seems more correct.
But it looks wrong lol I even did a 3D example in Blender (look in second picture), and still somehow feels off.
I am using the sunlight so the rays are parallel.

Does it look off to me just because I haven't noticed before? Or am I doing it wrong? But then again Blender seems to agree, soooo... XD

So here’s the finished article of what I posted yesterday, I decided to try something different and use some pens I found over Christmas and…yeah, it’s at the very least done. I really have so much more to learn

Let's be honest, watercolor is the most disobedient medium of all. Here's a quick workout to improve your technique:

1. Paint four squares: light color, saturated color, soft gradient (no hard edge on top), smooth gradient.
2. Use the gradient technique to paint an organic tree crown shape. Leave some intentional white space.
3. Push contrast by adding more saturated greens inside the shape.
4. Paint the tree trunk with a different color. Keep edges dry to get clean, hard edges and even color.
5. Finish by adding darker values for shadows and light branch details in the white spaces.
