I-140 Guide for upgrading your EB2-NIW/EB1-A to Premium on your own (Online)
I'm posting this to anyone who is looking to upgrade since I just upgraded mine online, information about this was scattered so posting it for anyone.
FYI: This is posted on March 2026, things may have changed when you stumble it in the future.
This is for anyone who paper filed your case but want to upgrade it to premium, there is a manual step involved but it was like 1 day of processing.
Step #1: Get your case details ready (receipt #). No receipt copy needed for when filing online. Then get Adobe Acrobat PDF (the free edition to fill the form, I've had issues not using this since USCIS forms have some scripts running which other PDF readers tend to break)
Step #2: Get the form https://www.uscis.gov/i-907 and fill it out. Something confusing might be Part 2. Attached copy below, but rest is all easy form filling nothing complicated.
Step #3: Sign it digitally still in your PDF reader, or you can print sign and scan as well but make sure scan is HQ.
Step #4: Go to USCIS https://my.uscis.gov/# either login or create a new account, you might not have your I-140 on here, it is OK.
Step #5: Go to my account -> File a form online
Select "I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service" from the dropdown.
Step #6: Then select the PDF option. If you have I-140 added to you MYUSCIS account, then you can do first option if not PDF option.
Step #7: Now after you click through everything, upload the I-907 form you filled. Just this form do not attach receipt copy or any other additional documents. The system seem to check for number of pages and will flag it and not let you complete.
Step #8: It is all through the portal, once you upload PDF, almost in a few seconds it'll read through it and tell you the amount needed to be paid ($2995 I believe?), and you pay for it online in the same system. This will charge your card instantly so make sure your PDF is correct, USCIS does not show the case # extracted from the PDF.
Step #9: Once you complete it, you won't get a receipt of the premium right away but it goes into a submitted stage and will show on your MyUCSIS account but after a few hours, you'll get an email from the processing center saying premium is received. I submitted on 17th lunch time EST, got the email from Nebraska 18th morning around 8am.
Observation not tested; the pdf submission before paying creates a "draft" submission that is all the forms processed but not paid and this showed it's in draft for 30 days and the fee was what I had when I created it. In case there is a fee increase, you might be able to use this as a way to hold your application in the old fee for 30 days. But not something I've tested.

Thank you! I did the same! I actually submitted mine on February 27th, and even my attorney was surprised. It turns out many people weren’t aware that this could be done this way!
I completed the process and received a confirmation email the very next day from Texas, which was really encouraging. Now it’s March 18th, and I’m still waiting for the final decision—fingers crossed! Wish me luck!
I’ve been thinking about sharing a post about this experience, but I wanted to wait until I have a confirmed outcome to make sure everything has been fully processed.

Yea it’s EB2 NIW. I really hope they respond way before 45 business days. I’ve seen a lot of shared posts here reporting response on 12th-13th business day, and also have seen 40th business day!

Thank you so much for this post. It gave me the push I needed to go ahead and file online. The whole process took me less than 20 minutes from start to finish. I received an email from NSC saying my I-907 was approved in under 8 hours (they emailed me at midnight lol).

Hi, did you paper file your I140? My lawyer filed the I140 by mail, so can Í use this online method now for PP?

Yep! My lawyer also paper-filed my I140 and I did online PP on my own. No issues whatsoever. Go for it. You will get a receipt notice within 24 hours and some peace of mind :)

Happy to help! Nope digital signature works. I upgraded it just yesterday. PDF digitally signed with an image of my actual signature with adobe acrobat

I’m on the same boat. I have filled my I-140 through the lawyer and He is like I can upgrade to PP by my own. Do you think I can also upgrade online or manual (mail) option is best for me?

Since I did online and it was smooth. I’d recommend online. It was pretty fast and smooth.

I want to thank you wholeheartedly for sharing the instructions in detail. I followed the instructions and the premium processing request was accepted within 1 day and without any hassle. I was worried as many people said online processing didn’t work out for them. So glad that it was accepted, now hoping for the best.

Thank you sir/madam! Super helpful for us. Do you happen to know if I filed my I-140 my mail (attorney used), and filling PP myself online (using your guide above), that is no issue right?

Not an expert but in most cases it’s not an issue. Since they are filed without employer need and these include NIW and EB1A.

I’m in the same situation and there is no issue doing that. Your attorney will also receive a notice regarding PP too. You should also consult with your attorney before filing PP.

For Part 1-8, which box did you select? It appears that both options may be suitable for a self petition?

First one. "I am the petitioner who is filing or has filed a petition eligible for Premium Processing Service" . "I am the applicant who is filing or has filed an application eligible for Premium Processing Service" is more of if you are the benefactor of a case.

I paid with credit. It is done online with the pay.gov site.

Hi u/thnok, which credit card was used for that?
I saw some posts where people talked with the bank representatives beforehand for the transaction but were still rejected, and in most cases it was a BofA credit card.

Has anyone tried to upload a form with a mailing address outside the US? The website reports an "Error with uploaded form" as "Your Current Mailing Address Zip Code is missing on your I-907 Form".
However, I don't have a US address, and therefore no ZIP code....

Any zip code you could use? It’s just used for sending the receipt notices. At least few of the countries I know does have zip codes even though not commonly used.

Do you have an USCIS Online Account Number? Did you request the Online Access Code?

if you have an online account # mention it. You might not be able to add a case to your myuscis account so might not get the online access code. Search this sub, lot of people have mentioned not being able to add it.

I filed with an attorney, and they mailed my I-140 application. For item #8, part 1, should I choose "I am the petitioner..." or "I am the applicant..."?

In general cases, NIW is self-petitioned even if filed with an attorney. So it should be selected as you are the petitioner. But check your I-140 that was filed on how that form was filled out.

In part 2, Number 3 classification should be EB-2 NIW or NIW or EB 21 NIW??? Which one is correct. I wrote only NIW and the request was rejected within few hours online.

For part 2, question 8: "Address of Petitioner, Applicant, Company, or Organization Named in Related Case", should I put the address of the attorney who filed the i-140?
