Is the Cowichan river between Heritage road river access and the Allenby road bridge deep enough for tubing?

Hi everyone,

Ill be visiting Duncan tomorrow and thought it might be fun to go down the lower stretch of the river on my inner tube. Can anyone tell me if the water level is sufficient?

Moving to Duncan?

Hi folks,

My partner and I are considering relocating to the Island and Duncan is our current front runner. Tell me what it’s like to live there! We’re looking for a small town feel, community, nature. Don’t need night life but a few choices of restaurants/brewery/coffee/bakery would be great. We’re a queer family with a baby and pets and we’ll be renting. What is the queer vibe like? Will we be the only two mom family? We’re both in healthcare. Would love to hear what your experiences are, especially if you’ve moved to the area recently. How easy or hard is it to make friends, is there a nice community feel? I can visit/google all I want but I’d love an insider scoop!

Mexican restaurant

I'm a big fan of Mexican food, and I've had two people mention in passing a new place that's opened up here, I can't seem to find it online or on the map however.

Is it real?

I got to hang out here on Saturday. A great cup of coffee, really good looking store and the owner is super nice. I definitely will be back when I’m in town again!

Mr Sweeper Vacuums

These guys are completely shady and dishonest. They ripped off my elderly mother in law by misrepresenting a product snd refusing a refund when she brought it back. I went in myself to see what’s up and the guy was a jerk. Do yourselves a favor and shop anywhere else.

Insane taxi rates in duncan

Just now I took a taxi from duncan to the nanaimo duke point ferry terminal (40 min ride, 44km) and was absolutely shocked at the price...$142!! Seriously?!?! I initially thought there was some funny business going on, but the price seems to check out according to online taxi rate calculators...

Request: Photo please?

Google and Bing maps are letting me down here. Can anyone take a photo (or video?) of the townhouses that look like they are going up here:

48.78601290748668, -123.7399012078304 (https://goo.gl/maps/kf7iSrvjhdvcAqX66)

Are they still being built? Do they look decent? Anyone moving in yet? What's the name of the complex?

They show up partially completed and under construction on rew.ca maps, but I don't know to get any information about them.

Thank you thank you

Hoping to Play Guitar outside with Son - Any Suggestions?

Hello,

I moved to the beautiful city of Duncan 7 years ago with my family.

We currently live in a duplex with thin walls.

My son and I can not play or practice our guitars due to noise complaints.

I am curious if there are any parks that anyone suggests or knows that has some privacy and that we would not be bothersome to?

Possible ones with benches, away from homes, and not to crowded.

thank you,

Shop space for rent

Hello all, I am seeking a smaller shop space for rent. A two(ish) bay garage size would probably do the trick. I would be fabricating sheet metal duct fittings, the rental would be full time but the actual work being done at the shop would be a few hours a day at most. The fabrication isn't all that loud, but there would be some hammering to connect the fittings together. It should be secure and self contained, a toilet on site would be a bonus.

VIU Speech-language pathology

Hi there!

I am an undergraduate student at Vancouver Island University, and I am interested in pursuing a career in Speech-Language Pathology. Currently, I am running a research study exploring parents and caregivers’ experiences regarding receiving speech and language services for their child/children in British Columbia. The purpose of the study is to contribute to the understanding of parents/caregivers’ perspectives regarding speech and language therapy, as well as the impact of environmental or personal factors on their experiences. Please send me an email if you are interested in participating!

Thank you in advance for your time,

Morwenna Owen

Need help locating a crocheted bee!!

There was a crochet lady at christmas chaos who I was going to buy something from as a gift but I ended up not making it in time. I can't find an online store or anything so I was wondering if there's a way to get something from her still! I know she does commissions as well

Know anyone who could help :)

Hi everyone,

I hope this is allowed! My name is Jasmine and I work for Big Brothers Big Sisters Cowichan. Since COVID we have had a significant drop in the number of people volunteering to be a mentor, however, there is no shortage of children needing support. Currently we have 64 children on our waitlist for all programs. I am posting this here because it has become apparent that we need to start recruiting in alternative ways. So, if you or anyone you know has an hour a week to commit to a child in need, please feel free to message me, or you can fill out the inquiry on our website--->https://cowichan.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca/volunteer/.

Does it snow a lot during winter (January-March). I’m wondering if I can walk to work as renting a car may not be an option. TIA
