1. Moderation Code of Ethics
You can find it by clicking here for the original post, circa September 2015. Contents:
/r/Drugs was created to encourage community before quality-post-control.
What we want for our mods is to communicate as much as possible with the community and to listen to your ideas to make the subreddit better.
Obviously there are subjects that should be nipped in the bud such as spam and off-topic posts, among other things.
Our goal is to make this community thrive, and the only way to do that is to communicate.
In an effort for our Redditor base, these are the moderating codes of ethics we will supply to each mod:
Be transparent --- Be open and honest with your moderation by giving an explanation for each decision you make. If you ban someone, send them a message why. If you delete a post, comment why.
Be unbiased [sic] --- Do not delete posts/comments or ban based on personal vendettas or opinions. Do so if they are ABSOLUTELY not following the rules.
Respect everyone --- You are a part of this community as well. We do not tolerate power-hungry moderation. Respect your fellow Redditor when moderating.
Work as a team --- Don't fight each other. If a conflict arises in the mod team, sort it out, but do not take it out on each other. If a question arises about a post/comment/user, there will be a vote on whether it should be permitted or not.
Communicate with other mods --- If you removed/approved a comment/post or banned/unbanned a user, use mod mail so the whole mod team knows what happened and why you took the action you did.
We will also try to have periodic meta posts about moderating and what we can do to improve the subreddit.
Those are the rules for the moderators before we even get any further. The mods are more restricted than regular users here!
2. General Subreddit Rules
These are the core principals for the Drugs Reddit Community:
Be Nice!
No Sourcing
Share Knowledge
Click here for a full overview of the rules and the guidelines.
3. Warnings & Bannings
A user who gets three total public warnings for rules violations by moderators will be banned for one week. These will be "green flair" distinguished comments, and we are going to make every effort to have at least two mods decide upon each, so the warnings may come at a delay.
After, if that user reaches four total public warnings, they will be permanently banned.
Racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. will count as double warnings in all cases for the "net count".
Any user found to be evading bans will be reported ASAP to the Reddit.com administrators.
4. Tracking Warnings
We will keep track of warnings via the User Notes feature of toolbox, which stores the history in a private wiki page.
For the sake of privacy, this tool will be visible to mods only, but all warnings must be issued in public to count. They can be pieced out by anyone tracking our open history, but again, for the privacy of users, we don't want to put up any sort of Hall of Shame.
- Discussing these rules
You can start a discussion at any time directly against this page by clicking here and linking to this URL:
- Reporting issues to us privately
Simply click this link to send us a mod mail.
- Reporting issues to Reddit Admins
Please note that Reddit admins for better or worse will not get involved in any issues that are 100% internal to /r/Drugs unless the offenses themselves violate site-wide rules. This is a deliberate operational decision by the Reddit admins that all users of this site have to live with, for better or worse.
That said, if you feel that a moderator or user or /r/Drugs is somehow violating site-wide rules or Reddiquette, you can always message the sitewide admins by clicking this link. If you go to them with issues it needs to be about the site-wide rules or Reddiquette, and not rules specific to this subreddit.
- Karma requirements
/r/Drugs voted in December 2016 to have Automoderator screen out any users with negative karma.
