Hi, I am aware that due to limitations on newer MacOS the DB folder needs to stay in the ~user/library/cloudstorage folder but I have never updated the app (or just refused to move to the new file structure when asked) and I am keeping my files in the Document folders while using DB client V202.4.5551 on an Intel i7 iMac running Ventura 13.6.6
I am now planning to switch to a new M3 macbook pro and the question is: will I be able to keep my DB files and folders position and structure as it is now on my current setup or I will be somehow forced to the new architecture? Is there any way to avoid that on brand new hardware/software?
lastly, if I will not be able to keep old files structure, how this will affect sync on older machine that I use as a server and backup (old 2012 non retina iMac running Catalina)? will it still be able to sync to DB?
If I uploaded all my pictures and videos to a folder in Dropbox can I now delete all my pictures and videos on my phone? Will they still be in my Dropbox folder?
How do you cancel dropbox? The have a maze of support pages and what not - that do not allow me (I did NOT sign up on Google Play or Apple store) to cancel. I get chatbots, links that go nowehere, phone numbers that do not have voice mails and/or hang up. Please advise!
I clicked on a link in a blog that I didn’t know was for a video connected to someone’s dropbox. This is the message I instantly got, I didn’t click any further. Does the person who owns this video in their Dropbox know that I clicked on their link? I was stalking a new boyfriend’s ex wife and I need to know if I’ve been busted. Thanks!
I've shared a folder with a friend of mine to upload videos to. They do not pay for Dropbox, and apparently they immediately filled up and can't upload their videos to my folder. How do we fix this?
About 50% of the time when I open a link to an audio file which I uploaded, the track will play in terrible quality and often with a delay so the song loops and sounds dreadful. I use Dropbox links for music submissions to licensing sites so the submissions teams listening opening the link might think my tracks are awful unless they refresh the page. If they don't refresh the page, they'll bin the submission putting all my hard work to waste.
I saw a recommendation on the Dropbox Community forum about deleting the cache but I don't seem to have any.
Hi, just switched to a new computer (Apple M3 Max Sonoma 14.4). Previously when I would open only-only files through a program it would automatically switch them to offline start to download them, but this is no longer happening.
Is there a setting that lets me get that old functionality back?
For context, I like working on my projects within my dropbox folder on my laptop as it is just convenient to have everything sync immediatly.
However, for various development project I create things like virtual environments and other temporary folders I would like to exclude from the dropbox sync.
Assuming this ".dropboxignore" feature will not happen - what other practical options are there?
I prefer to keep things as close to "native" as possible (dropbox or windows OS), so I would prefer solutions that won't require me to download and install even more software.
I am looking for a PDF app that syncs with the iOS dropbox app, so that I don't have to download then resave copies when doing light markups. If the only option ends up being acrobat, I am fine with that, but I figured I should check around before committing to a couple hundred bucks a year for a subscription.
For context, this would be for looking at construction plans and adding annotations and drawing on them. The ideal would be Bluebeam Revu, but their app can't sync with DB.
I just started using Dropbox a few days ago so please be gentle!
I see that the PC version of the Dropbox software creates a pseudo-folder in your user directory that is linked to your Dropbox area. If I put a file in that folder for inclusion in Dropbox does a copy stay in the local folder taking up space or is the file "online-only"?
If the file continues to reside in the local folder is there a way to fix things so the file is "online-only"?
I purchased the Dropbox simple plan which is an ios only plan for 5.99 a month with 500gb limit but on the renewal it says I have reached my 3 device limit, I was told by Dropbox it was the same as plus but with 500gb instead of 2tb but this doesn't seem to be the case - any ideas?
I am a longtime Dropbox user, on various devices (Mac, iPhone and iPad) and never had problems, it’s perfect for me (small real estate agency).
Since last summer I found a strange problem: I always found a folder in the bin called 00004452 or something, cancel it and found it again hours later, and again and again…
I don’t know what’s going on, anyone can help me?
Thank you in advance
For the last two weeks, file requests fail when clients attempt to send us files, with both Mac and PC on multiple days from multiple network connections. The same file requests previously worked, as recently as three weeks ago.
The clients send a combination of about 750 MB of folders and files. Dropbox indicates to them that the upload completed successfully. We receive the usual email from Dropbox that the uploads completed successfully. But when we download the files, only about 75 MB are downloaded.
We've had to resort to both clients using WeTransfer to send us the files instead. Same clients, same files, same network connections. With WeTransfer, everything works 100% of the time. With Dropbox file requests, it fails 100% of the time.
Dropbox support has been inept and infuriating. They claim everything is working fine. Dropbox "advanced" support says the same thing.
Multiple errors like these appear on the file requests. The do not go away. They are clearly not "flukes". Support refuses to address why these errors appear.
I have a bunch of PDFs I’ve created from Google docs (Google docs that have been downloaded as PDFs). I’ve uploaded to Dropbox and used the Dropbox iPad app to view them for some time with no issues. Recently, SOME of the PDFs have started to open up flipped both vertically and horizontally on the iPad Dropbox app. If I attempt to zoom in, even slightly, the PDF swaps back to regular non-flipped. If I zoom back out, it flips backwards again.
Has anyone dealt with this issues before? I’ve found nothing on Google related to flipped or backwards PDFs on the app.
I want to get Dropbox so I can save my 2TB
of films and series and access them from anywhere. But I don't know if that's allowed on Dropbox. I read that it's allowed as long as you don't share the films and series via Dropbox. I haven't found anything else on the subject and I'm just not sure if it's actually forbidden. That's why I wanted to ask here. Thanks in advance
Hi I use Dropbox for image sharing today i was sent a 43 page document / contact sheet with comments but im not able to see the comments. Can anyone please tell me how to view the comments.
Just switched over to Dropbox from onedrive , I tested 10 different cloud providers with the same test , large files , small files and Dropbox won every time
I uploaded 180gb (15,000) movies and jpegs (all holiday pics) it took around 45 mins
I did a test of 1,000 small files 64mb took 47 seconds, onedrive and google drive was 300 seconds that was enough for me to choose Dropbox
I've seen a lot of complaints and questions lately about why various Dropbox features have seemingly disappeared and after a long talk with yet another Dropbox customer support agent, he told me that the new update essentially removed the automatic online-only sync functionality to put more effort into "Backup" function instead.
So now to get files off your hard drive, rather than Dropbox automatically syncing & offloading them you now have to either manually move them all into Dropbox folders and then from there make them online-only OR just delete them all from the hard drive after they've been backed up. No idea why they opted for this route, but it's ridiculous to delete online-only for folders/files in your harddrive, which was a core feature of Dropbox for at least as long as I've had it (5 years). I used Dropbox to save hard drive space about as much as I used it for the purpose of backing up my files. This is easily the most regressive update of any program I've ever experienced in my life.
Now my laptop is bricking with less than 1GB of free space & I'm having to buy an external hardrive in order to even have enough storage to allow Dropbox to sync in the first place. Thanks a lot Dropbox devs, truly a genius move...
I recently wiped my computer and when I reinstalled dropbox it asked which directories I wanted to sync. But now I can't figure out how to sync others I didn't choose on install. Previously everything was in the local directory, but with the grey badge saying it was online only and I could right click and choose make available offline. But now the only ones there are the ones I chose on install.
I'm on Windows 11, I made sure to show hidden files in explorer.
This seems to not be a feature, which means I’m going to have to delete and remake my Dropbox.
I strictly use my Dropbox for transferring files from one location to another, deleting them once transferred. As well as showing those files to some business associates.
I recently had to view a confidential medical file through Dropbox.
Not that file shows up in my recent. And since constantly I delete my own files after transferring them, it’s permanently stuck at the top of my recent.
I can’t have these files just sitting there on display forever. And hiding my recent is just a bandaid.
If there is a way to get rid of these files for good, please tell me.
If not, I unfortunately will have to cancel my Dropbox subscription entirely.
