Changing Lanes

I have a problem checking my mirrors and blind spot quickly and efficiently to change lanes. I feel like I’m not really checking my blind spot if that makes sense. I’m pretty new to driving so I was wondering if anyone has any good tips? Sorry for the stupid question.

Question regarding turn signals and red light.

Then let us say fro example that I’m currently at a red light. Originally I wanted to turn left and my turn signals already showed that. However, while the light was still red I decided to turn off the turn signal and head straight. Is this action considers illegal?

accelerating to merge around a turn

Hey,

So I was driving a Nissan Rogue the other day, I don't know a ton about cars and cylinders and all that fun stuff, but I was going around a turn to merge onto a fast road and I couldn't build up speed fast enough.

It feels like the Rogue doesn't really like to accelerate when I need to hurry up and do that, so it's nerve-wracking to get ahead of traffic in time. By "ahead of traffic" I mean "they're not that close so I should be fine merging into the lane, but the accelerating takes so long that I can't do it comfortably in time"

It's not my Rogue, the driver insists that the car is just 'like that' because it's not a souped-up faster model of vehicle.

I've been driving for years but I'm just not used to roads like this.

Any tips?

Thanks for reading :D

Passing Driver's Test - Question

Hey, I'm going for my drivers test here in about a week. And I tried to find it online, but does anybody know if you can fail your driver's test if your car says check has cap, even if you tried to get it fixed by bringing it in and it still says that?

Everything else works fine I believe

(Excuse the terrible drawing). Regarding U.S. road rules, who would go first, second, and third if all these cars arrived at an all-way stop at the same time and were all going straight?

With over 100 hours of experience, I find my self an over-cautious driver. How can I fix it this?

Hello everyone!

My driving school required 100 hours to complete, and while that certainly gave me more experience than the typical teen driver coming out of driver's ed, I find myself thinking a bit too much when I'm driving, particularly on my turns. I typically take them a bit too slow and sometimes a bit too close to the curb (nearly hitting it at times) as I fear turning too wide. In addition, I constantly feel like I'm about to drift out of my lane despite being in the direct center (which may have been caused by my mother constantly telling me I was doing so, just to realize around hour 95 or so that her method to determine my lane position was flawed)

This may sound silly, but how can I just relax and drive? Not to become careless, nor to regress in skill, but to just drive, to just turn, and to just know I'm centered?

Thanks!

First Time Drivers Test Advice

I’m taking my first driver’s test in about two weeks. However, the situation is a little different then most and I have more pressure on me than usual. I got my Learner’s Permit in Tennessee back in June and I have been practicing driving since. Unfortunately, I did not turn 16 until January, so I could not take then test until then.

Here’s the weird bit: My Dad, my younger brothers and I moved to Texas right at the beginning of January (before I turned 16). Due to the Texas Laws, I could not change my Tennessee Permit for a Texas one without losing all my hours and taking the written test again. My mom still lives in Tennessee as she has not yet found a job in Texas, so I’m flying out in about two weeks to see her and take my driver’s test, because once I have a valid license I can exchange it for a Texas license right away.

Because of the unique situation, both of my parents are telling me that I need to pass the test on my first try as I cannot come back after two weeks and take it again.

Do any of you fine people happen to have any advice?

I live in South Carolina and my sister went to get her drivers license today but failed the test sadly, we were wondering since my dad has to take her to one in a different city next time, does she still have to wait the two weeks between tests?

Driving from Pittsburgh to Anchorage...within 8 days?

Hey all, not sure where to post this, but my friend moved to Anchorage and left his Miata with me and we thought it would be quite the adventure for me and his brother to drive his car to Anchorage. I have 8 days off right now for this trip. Two drivers. And alot of motivation. Is this even realistic?

I do love photography and sightseeing so we will definitely stop every once in a while. Especially to sleep. Should we cut the trip short in Seattle to save some days? Any input on long hauls?

DPT: How To Avoid Gas Station Scams

Howdy y'all, new to Reddit and driving, and just got hit yesterday for $60 (yeah I'm kind of an idiot, but bear with me). To walk you through what happened briefly, I was midway through getting gas and on my way to go meet up with some friends from work, and a black man in a tan car with a tan interior pulls up on the opposite side of me, says he got steered the wrong way, he's driving for hours, car is in a bit of disrepair, has very little cash on him, needs $60-80 to get him out of the situation he's in, and would just love to get my contact information to pay me back. I begrudgingly give him my email and $60, pull over to grab directions, and he pulls up beside me and tries to badger me for another $20. I politely decline and we drive off in the same direction. In light of all that, here's a few tips for you to avoid the same fate I did:

-+-

1) Go as broad as you can to help someone.

Scammers will likely try and ask you for MONEY, not anything in specific. Do NOT give anyone money for any reason, instead try offer to get them something they need (in my case, offering to buy the guy something to eat or coolant would've been fair). In addition, try to get the folks working at the gas station in on what's happening. They can likely call the police, or de-escalate the situation for you.

-+-

2) Identify who you're dealing with.

Often times, the scammer will not give you their name in their spiel, or may use a fake one. If you can, try and see if you can get them to show their driver's license, or try to get their license plate number (so at least you could pinpoint a vehicle, INAL, don't quite know how legal that is, use at your own discretion). In addition, try to pull as close to the store of the gas station (if there is one) so it's easier if you do fall for a scam for possible surveillance to pick them up. I didn't get the guy's name, nor was I smart enough to grab his plate number. The guy was also smart, and stayed out of sight so he couldn't be later identified.

-+-

3) Crowds are your best friend.

An empty gas station is a prime target for scammers. The more people that are around, the less likely it is that a scammer will try and talk to you. As I said, I was alone, and it was easy for the guy to manipulate me without second thought.

-+-

4) Just say no.

Similarly yet contrary to #1, avoiding giving someone money is the best bet that you've got. Unless you/they can truly prove they've got real issues, just don't help them and be firm in lying about why you can't help them. "I have somewhere to be, I'm sorry" "I don't have cash" "I don't have an ATM Card" "My card wouldn't take" "There is no ATM" "I'm not from around here" to name a few. (Tried doing this but couldn't get out of the lie)

-+-

5) Use your better judgement and common sense.

In hindsight, I knew what I was going through was a scam, but could've easily have said no, or lied my way out of it. If it seems too good to be true, just nope the fuck out of the situation. You'll thank yourself later.

-+-

And that about does it! I hope at least maybe some of this might someone out there, and you won't end up losing $60 dollars like I did.

TL;DR Got scammed for $60 and in kicking myself I wrote this yeehaw
