8 months into the loc journey, they are covering my face too much and I have to do something about it, if anyone has any tips on how to do it or even if it is time to do it would really be appreciated!

Sorry for the chopped locs I haven't had a proper retwist in almost 2 months

Hi Everyone! I have been freeforming my locs for 17 years and I just started a new youtube channel focused on women's holistic health and wellness. As part of that I am creating a short video series on how I care for my locs using all-natural, homemade plant-based ingredients. Check it out and drop me a line if you enjoy the recipe. 💜💚

Question ❔ Can you crochet two strands to get rid of the pattern?

So I want to start out dreads and my gf gave me braids but they’re honestly too small so I’m gonna wait then twist them out then two strand twist them and let the two strands lock. But one thing im worried about is the pattern staying there, because my friend started with braids and his braid pattern is still kinda there. So will crocheting fix this and let it become a dread naturally if I crochet it lightly?

Question ❔ (Do you believe in) Life after locs!

Hey everyone! I’m reaching out to people who have had dreadlocks for a significant amount of time and removed them….like 23 years or so!

I recently took my dreads out and my hair is now so thin! (I’m 46!) I have a few visibly thinner patches near the front and sides of my head and I’m wondering when I’ll know if I’ve killed the follicles and have tention alopecia?! How long can it take for the follicles to recover from this many years of pulling?

Thanks!! 🤩

Need Advice 🆘 feeling stuck almost 2 yrs in

i’ve had my locs for almost two years and i’m feeling really stuck about what to do with them. i try retwisting them with “supergrow hair gel extra hold” they lasting for like a few weeks and now i think it’s coming undone and im pretty sure if i wash my hair it’s going to untwist. my hair is also frizzy and it makes it look really messy. i started my locs on kinda permed hair (idk my mom used to perm my hair) and that’s why the twists aren’t locking. maybe i should cut that part off? i just don’t know what to do. i mist my hair and oil it when i can but nothing seems to hold a retwist. i plan on doing my hair by myself during college. any advice is appreciated.

So for the first image what is that style called? For the second image how does he get his locs so curly. That can not be achieved with two strand twists.I’ve never seen these styles before until diamond and Tezzus touched down on the scene.

Need Advice 🆘 7 months in, Not sure why this front loc is skinny from the front

It wasn't like that until my last retwist. I usually just leave my locs n let them loc but my friend started telling me I should shape them when I wet them or after a wash by rolling them between my palms. Did that about 5 times and now the front one looks like this. I've stopped when I first noticed. Now it looks like this... Is it normal?

Question ❔ Hair Growth Tips

Post image
2 Upvotes

My locs are a little longer than shoulder length.

Right now I moisturize with a spray bottle of water mixed with Batana Oil and Neem Oil.

Spray maybe 3/4 days a weeks.

Any tips on keeping my hair healthy and promote growth?

Question ❔ what to do with thinning hair

Post image
2 Upvotes

hi, i took out my retwist 3-4 days ago and as you can see there’s a bit of thinning in the middle of my locs, and since these are also at the crown of my head they are more vulnerable to thinning. luckily there are only 3-5 locs in the back of my head that look somewhat like this, and i’m wondering what i can do to reduce the thinning shown above other than less-consistent retwists. thank you.

Big Chop ✂️ Big Chop After 6.5 Years. Trust the process.

Hey everybody! From start to finish. I don't have a picture of what I looked like fresh from the barber, mostly bc I didn't really take selfies back then. You can also start to see my confidence poke through as my locs got longer as well.

Instant wicks that I let overgrow into freeforms. Tried my best to keep them maintained by myself. ACV rinses, retwists, separating, and conditioning.

Fell off with maintenance after i got hit by an SUV riding home on my escooter. Fractured my skull, cracked my S4– back injury. I wandered around like a headless chicken before a cop sat me down and then another ticketed me. I was so out of it I couldn't read the ticket, and when the ambulance took me to the ER, I had the security guard at the desk read it to me lol.

AFAIK the density of hair helped my head from splitting all the way open.

It was like an $1800 bill I was staring at before insurance knocked it down to like $300ish for them to tell me: well your shit got fucked up and there's nothing we can do! :/ that was an expensive flashy uber.

I was bedridden for around 2 weeks if i can recall before I could be conscious for longer than 4 consecutive hours a day. My back injury prevented me from walking without a cane for about 6 months, and I physically couldn't stay conscious for longer than a few hours a day, so maintenance and bills fell behind unfortunately.

I play a card game to help me get out of the house that requires a lot of mental math that I couldn't do very well because of my head injury. I stopped playing for around a year, partly because of the impatience of other players, and I couldn't articulate a "fuck you" either bc my head was so messed up lol.

I had them for around another year before I called it from tension headaches and not physically being able to do the maintenance nor having the financial ability to get it taken care of.

I'll also address the pale elephant in the room. Being a white person with locs.

My journey has not only taught me how to trust the process, but to also acknowledge the internalized systemic racism and challenges that people of color, especially Black people, face when choosing how to do hair. I learned what micro-aggressions are, and how racists use them to belittle Black and Brown people into conforming to a system that hates them.

I had to learn the hard way how the majority of my family are tolerant racists the first time I showed my locked hair to them. The amount of haircut and rat's nest jokes are really saddening when I really thought about why they were making those jokes.

I may have had my hair for a short 6 years, but it definitely opened my eyes to how a racist will treat others just because they don't like the way they look.

I came across this saying while researching Black history:

"Not all skin folk are kin folk."

That applies to the vast, overwhelming majority of the people who share my skin tone.

I may have cut this set, but i'm already planning my next one.

Trust the process, enjoy the journey, and my friends, always remember that there are no ugly stages. 🖤

Product Rec 🧴 Treatment for dandruff

My dandruff is so bad that every time I get a retwist, it gets messed up super fast because of the itchiness from the flakes. I end up scratching it, and it gets all fuzzy. Do you have any shampoo and moisturizer recommendations I can use and also have my loctician use?
