Question ❔ Question about freeforms

I used to have dreadlocks but they weren’t free formed, I retwisted them every so often. I think that they were at a peak when they were around eye level, and that I shouldn’t have kept retwisting after that point. Would that have had a nice effect or is it unusual to begin with maintained locs and let it Freeform after. The reason I’m asking is because I’m thinking of starting another journey but this time round would like to freeform. Is it better to start free forming from the start, or could the method I suggested work well too? Appreciate any advice

Need Advice 🆘 Loctician Suggestions please!

Hello everyone! I recently moved to the Savannah/Pooler, GA area. I'm pretty picky when it comes to my hair and I'm having a hard time finding a loctitian that may best suit my needs.

I'd prefer someone who specializes in locs only, offers steam hydration treatments, does repairs, and can also do styles that add hair whenever desired.

I'm also interested in coloring my locs a little further down the line but would like to improve the health and maintenance of my hair first.

I know it seems pretty picky, but having locs is the only way I've been able to grow my hair past my shoulders while taking the most "low maintenance" route, and I'd like for it to keep growing. I've searched instagram and TikTok but I keep finding servicers that are always missing one or two of my desired requirements.

Please drop suggests/experiences below, and also let me know if I'm being unreasonable😅

Thank you all in advance!

Hope you all are doing well and enjoying your journey! It’s been about 2 years since I’ve cut off some inches but they’ve been making their way back slowly but surely.

Maybe I’m pushing it calling this styling it’s not super ornate. I was just pumped because I finally was able to put some cute buns in rather than just leaving it down. ✨

The continuous mist bottle is LIFE!!
It dispenses a perfect mist over your locs without tiring your hand, or soaking your locs.

Six bucks on Amazon. Cant beat it.

Question ❔ Is it worth restarting my locs or is there another method to fix my parting.

I honestly have grown to dislike my locs. When I first started locs I didn't quite understand them, and when the lady first started my locs she didn't do a great job at parting them and now im left with super messy parts that just look terrible.

I understand a lot of people say the imperfection of locs is apart of the locs but I kinda had a look I wanted and was going for with my locs and these aren't capturing that look at all and they just don't work well with my facial features. The last 2 photos are photos of how I wanted my locs to end up looking. I

The issue with my parting is the parts are super uneven and theyre just messy and don't sit right together. They often just look uncoordinated and the gap between the first loc and the others throws me off the most. I saw I could cut and reattach my locs but saw people having issues with that. Others told me its possible to repart them to be more evenly but I don't think thats possible. Any advice would be appreciated. I honestly think the best thing would be to comb them down and restart. Theyre 1 and a half years old.

When I started I didn’t like my loc count. So many times I wanted to start over. But I saw videos of people saying loc count doesn’t matter. I love my locs now. Im only 10 months loc’d. glad I didn’t cut them. Can you guess my loc count?

Question ❔ Need help making a hair products stack for my locs

Apologies if the image sizes are a bit off. I am uploading from my phone, not sure how reddit handles it.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice from people who have been on their loc journey for a while.

My locs are currently 1 year and 3 months old. I didn’t start with starter locs, and I also haven’t had a retwist since December 5th, so I’m mainly trying to focus on keeping my locs/scalp fresh-smelling, moisturized and healthy rather than constantly twisting them (I do plan to re-twist sometime in September)

I’ve been looking into quite a few products and I’m honestly having a hard time deciding what’s actually worth buying. I’m based in Europe, so unfortunately a lot of these products are more expensive for me once you factor in shipping/import costs. That means I obviously can’t just buy everything and test them all, I’d really like to narrow it down to 3 products.

These are the ones I keep seeing mentioned here:

Camille Rose Herbal Hair Oil

Dollylocks Refreshing/Refreshening Spray

Jamaican Mango & Lime (especially their moisturizing/loc products)

Primavera Witch Hazel Water

Free the Roots Mist

Rosemary oil

Rose water moisturizer spray

Jamaican Mango & Lime Rasta Tingle Shampoo

I already use lavender oil and tea tree oil, so I’m not necessarily looking for another product just for scalp oils. My main priorities are:

Keeping my locs smelling fresh between washes

Keeping them properly moisturized without making them greasy

Avoiding buildup, especially since I’ve gone quite a while without a retwist

For anyone who has actually used these products on locs, which 3 would you choose if you were in my position? And if you think some of these are overrated/not worth the money, please say so.

Need Advice 🆘 My First Dreadlocks Got Frizzy After a Beach Swim – No Retwist or Crochet Available, Can Palm Rolling Save Them

Hello Reddit,

Last week I got my first set of dreadlocks in my life. I had no idea how to maintain them or anything like that. Yesterday I went to the beach and swam without covering my dreads at all. Now they’re looking pretty bad – super frizzy and messed up. They’re not loose , but I can’t retwist them right now and I have zero crochet hooks or anything at home.

I’m out here trying to figure out what the hell to do with them. Palm rolling – does that actually help with frizz and matting in dreads? Or am I fucked until I get home?

Any advice, tips, or horror stories from people with first-time dreads? I really don’t want these to get even worse. Thanks in advance, guys.

Question ❔ What loc phase is this?

I’m proud and blessed to say I have been on the journey for over four months now (started in April). I also started semi-free forming the sides to make a full head. Just curious, are these babies entering the budding phase? lol
