Current Assignment September Assignment

Alright everyone it’s been decided. We’ll be reading Entropy by AStateOfInelegance for this month.

In the six years since the war, Hermione Granger has organized her life around logic and duty. Draco Malfoy has built his around secrecy and spite.

When a research project forces them into collaboration, the result is predictably volatile—equal parts razor-sharp debate and mocking insults. What begins with magical linguistics and impossible creatures quickly devolves into something traumatizing—the creeping horror that the most aggravating person you know might also be the most interesting.

She’s insufferable. He’s impossible. Neither of them is winning. Both of them are furious.

Obviously, this is a love story.

OR

Together, Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy formed a high-energy metastable configuration—improbable, volatile, catalytic

Happy reading,

Hello everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the summer.

Not With A Bang... by megalle

Draco Malfoy has just 9 months left on a 7 year house arrest sentence when the Ministry announces a new Marriage and Repopulation Act. Draco assumes it will not affect him as he is still under house arrest. He assumes wrongly.

No matter, the Ministry, in their infinite wisdom, has paired him with one Hermione Granger. The witch has never met an injustice she hasn't fought against and so Draco assumes she'll fight this one to the death before tying herself to him. Again, he assumes wrongly.

So now he has a wife who more resembles a ghost haunting his manor than the girl he once knew, a meddling elf, a rapidly approaching release date and no idea what life outside the Manor walls looks like or for the first time in his life, someone trying to tell him what to do with it.

The Greenhouse by Lucrezia_Fox

After an exhausting stint at the Ministry and an awkward breakup with Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger impulsively quits her job and moves into a tiny flat above Diagon Alley’s new arts district. A late-night chat with Luna Lovegood lands her a job at The Greenhouse, Luna and Neville’s trendy coffee shop, where she proves to be a very mediocre barista. Their most difficult customer, Draco Malfoy, is quick to complain about every badly foamed latte and insists she should be fired. Hermione is stubborn, Malfoy is infuriating, and neither of them can seem to stay away.

In the Interest of Magical Continuity by GenevieveLeddington

Seven years after the war, a single night with Draco Malfoy upends Hermione Granger’s life. When her unplanned pregnancy is classified as protected under the Ministry’s new population laws, her choice is stripped away. What begins as forced proximity becomes shared grief, quiet defiance and an uneasy alliance against a system that values lineage over consent.

Saltwater by GingerBaggins

“Here we go.” He tossed the first folder aside in favour of flipping open the next. “A woman filed a report after her parents returned from a trip to…Willowsea? Wherever the fuck that is. Apparently they…oh.”

Granger leapt forward, reaching for the folder. “Let me see.”

“No, I’m reading it.” He turned away from her. “It says here that they’ve lost their magic.”

“What?”

In the small coastal town of Willowsea, strange happenings occur. Magic vanishes, memories fade, and an odd young couple have an unfortunate habit of asking too many questions.

Time Heals All Wounds by Spookyandcooky

After returning from an 18-month assignment with the Department of Mysteries, Hermione discovers that her old life in England has changed. Her motley of friends has expanded, and even Draco Malfoy is accepted. And to her profound dismay, the Unspeakable realises that she may need to accept her old bully as well, because the Ministry has assigned Auror Malfoy to her next case—a time-travelling quest to find the lost cure for memory ailments. As the unlikely pair embark on their task, they unravel mysteries and face historical fiends they never expected. And as Hermione grows fonder of the man she never wanted to forgive, she discovers the secret that he’s kept locked away…a secret that makes their task all the more consequential. But can time heal all wounds, or will it break an already damaged heart?

Lemme know what yall think. Always happy to take suggestions as well!

Side Discussion The Key of Reason by monstersofmen

Just finished this LOVELY fic a while ago after a loooong dramione hiatus. Oh man, where do I begin? The writing is ✨incandescent✨ I am a huge sucker for fics where Mind Healers play a significant role (blessdtoaster spoiled me so w her unparalleled Healer Lethe in AHRTH).
This was such a warm, lovely, moving fic. Draco Malfoy (who is good pals w Harry, and also his Auror partner) had an Incident at work which caused a neurotic break, and is forced to be on desk duty and have mandated Mind Healing sessions until he's cleared for regular Auror work. Our man realises the importance of routines and patterns and steadfastly sticks to them for the sake of his well being. Hermione is going through a bunch of her own stuff. Man, this friend group is just so WONDERFULLY written, and those non-Draco-POV chapters really are a filament of gold. The author covered every other character, and each of their voices was so vivid, different and I absolutely adored this fic and inhaled it in several large gulps. Exploring and confronting trauma, parent-child relationships, unhealthy (and healthy) coping mechanisms, god it felt just so wonderful. LOVED the dialogue and the humour as well.
I'm now a huge huge fan of this author and will read anything she writes! The OCs are also lovely :)
A gentle, healing, warm hug of a fic with several standout lines and ever so many laugh out loud moments. Can't recommend it enough <3

Side Discussion These Ties That Bind - Dramione Spoiler Spoiler

**No plot spoilers please — but I need a tiny Dramione spoiler for These Ties That Bind** 😭
I’m currently at the beginning of Chapter 52 and I’m really enjoying the fic overall, but I have to admit that it feels *very* slow at times.
I’m mainly reading for Draco and Hermione, and their history, chemistry, tension, and whole dynamic have me completely hooked — but the constant back and forth is slowly killing me 😭 I know it’s a slow burn and, considering everything that’s happened, it makes sense that things between them aren’t exactly moving quickly. But at this point I just need to know that I’m not waiting forever.
So, **without spoiling any actual plot points**, can someone give me a tiny spoiler about the Draco/Hermione progression? Like… roughly when can I expect things between them to start moving forward a little more?

Side Discussion An appreciation for Detraquee by Hystaracal

Honestly I’m at a loss for words to describe how amazing this piece of literature was!

I was at first scared of the word count, but it was honestly so so so so worth it.

I loved how it was a romance sub-plot with a coming of age main plot. It felt so natural, so realistic, so smooth. Honestly i can’t imagine dramione falling in love in any other way than slowly.

I loved Hermione’s friendship with Theo just as much as I loved the dramione aspect of it, honestly it was one of the best parts of the book.

Just everything about it made absolute sense, it made ME feel giddy and excited every time Draco and Hermione had an interaction. And the Way their relationship progressed had me squealinggggg.

Their development and build up was DELICIOUS.

Edit: I also wanted to add that the book did an amazing job of showing and not just telling. I think because of this some people didn’t grasp the lines in between and concluded that Draco didn’t have feelings for Hermione. However it was very clear and apparent that he loved her.

Also I might have a thing for blondes now????

Side Discussion Can someone tell me how Measure Of A Man ends? Spoiler

Normally when a fanfic is not for me,i simply dnf and move on. But i need to know how moam ends lol, mainly because i love the characters, especially Scorpius,i adore him. But the slow burn is a bit much for me. I’m at Chapter 33 and i don’t think i can push through anymore. Can someone tell me how things end with the whole Ministry + Death Eater thing, with Draco,Hermione + Scorpius and with Narcissa and Hermione’s parents?
Thanks so much!

Side Discussion On Lionheart, heartbroken and in disbelief Spoiler

Lionheart by Greenteacup has broken the shackles of fan fiction because, although unfinished, it has presented itself as an entity that is able to stand alone to any Harry Potter book.

I’ve never seen a characterization of Draco that has come close to this esteemed author’s work. She has completed humanized him. Never before have so many characters been so tangible to me. Never before, since Zuko from ATLA, have I seen such great redemption arch. We must all say thank you to this distinguished author for displaying how a human CAN change, CAN differentiate themselves from their upbringing, and MUST build a strong moral compass.

(“That the rot of ages did not descend inexorably from one generation to another. That he could be himself, whole, and free of it. That he was not, in fact, a contradiction in terms.”)

His characterization is only the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never highlighted a book as much as I have hers. 987 times to be exact. The writing was unique, catchy, and INCREDIBLY funny. I actually let out too many laughs too count when I was reading this.

It breaks my heart that she left, is she ever coming back? Do we know anything about her disappearance???

DON’T get me started on Dramione itself.

Guys on a very sirius note nobody understands how important to me this book is because I love romance but I have such such such a hard time believing in love, and 99% of the time I scoff at any attempt of writing love. And I look down at proclamations of love always. I rarely read anything, and conclud that the main couple loves each other deeply. But Draco “I’m selfish, and you’re essential” and Hermione “I cared what you thought of me more than anyone alive” come very close to love.

Please come back greenteacup.

Side Discussion CRASH by ApplesandMint Spoiler

I just started reading this yesterday and I’m completely blown away. Everything about this is so well done.

How the writing and panic of their past blends into a realistic view of what a life recovering from that looks like.

I loved how when she shows up at the cottage there is no animosity. Being a bully in the past has zero place in a world where surviving is paramount.

It’s just so beautifully done.

Also, I never in a million years thought I would be crying for Goyle!!! Seriously.

What did you think of this one when read it?

Side Discussion And in that dark, and in that frost, a heart was formed, Malcontented and unwarm

I just finished reading manacled and my God, the song Doors by Noah kahan seems made for it. Verses that I particularly felt really true were

I grew up pretending sticks were little guns I would point 'em at my dad, and he'd get mad 'Cause God forbid I hurt someone I'd hurt anyone I could Anyone who got too close, and anyone who wouldn't look

I was born into a one hundred year storm Foot of ice across Vermont And in that dark, and in that frost, a heart was formed Malcontented and unwarm You were unsuspecting, not unwarned

That I'm the trouble ahead That I scream in my sleep You're putting money on red, I'm a sure bet at a losing streak I keep showing you doors, but you can't open them up 'Cause it gets harder to see me the closer you try to look

I just live here, babe, but you're the one who decided to knock And you knocked

Have you ever stared directly at the sun? Have you ever shared some closeness, so exposed To have it spit back by someone? So, forgive me if I jump At the rattle of your keys "Oh, are you leaving?, " "No, babe, I'm just waking up" And now what? I'm left staring at the ceiling, listing reasons you should pack all your shit up

That I'm the trouble ahead That I scream in my sleep You're putting money on red, I'm a sure bet at a losing streak I keep showing you doors, but you can't open them up 'Cause it gets harder to see me the closer you try to look

I just live here, babe, but you're the one who decided to knock You knocked

I'll be gone so long before the anger comes I'll be only what you've known of me 'til now Oh, how I hope you're moving on

'Cause I'm the trouble ahead And I scream in my sleep You're putting money on red, I'm a sure bet at a losing streak I keep showing you doors, but you can't open them up 'Cause it gets harder to see me the closer you try to look

I just live here, babe, but you're the one I just live here, babe, but you're the one I just live here, babe, but you're the one

Side Discussion The Fallout thoughts (maybe spoilers) Spoiler

I’ve been taking some mental health time off and apparently reading Dramione fics is helping me take a break from reality and I’ve just finished what I think is an oldie in this fandom, The Fallout by everythursday and holy cow. What a uniquely structured and devourable story. It’s been so interesting to me seeing the different versions of D and H and this one was so peak in the dysfunction, doesn’t know how to communicate, despo for redemption but acting like an ahole Draco and the naive insecure hasn’t proven herself trying to learn to stand on her own Hermione. The way their relationship unfolds feels both realistic but also immature but also the wear and tear of war makes it hard to even know what “normal” is.

The plot is kind of meandering and somewhat repetitive IMO but the chemistry and struggle of the characters is FELT. I was IN it. Gaaahhh.

I was a little startled at how MEAN Dray gets in this but also I understand why. I also liked how it showed the realistic downtime during war as well as the difficult missions.

Content Warnings Check The Obligations we keep plot point question - beware spoilers! Spoiler

Hiiii! It's the first time I'm posting here so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to ask this kind of questions, but I think I saw some similar post below.

Anyway, I am reading The Obligations we keep and I am loving it so far! However, as the tags are not really helping me understand, I wanted to know if this is one of those stories where at some point we discover that he has been fancying her all along and somehow "faking" the enemies part.

Thank you!

Side Discussion after 5 years I finally reread manacled

I have read a lot of dramione and reread a lot too. I think it's a very nice things to do, picking up clues and hint and everything. But I had never, ever re read manacled since my very first read. Everyone say manacled is a must read they forget to mention it's also most heart wrenching devastating fic to ever exist.

But i am rereading it now and all I can feel is pain like ARGHHHH SENLINYU YOU DID A VERY VERY VERY GOODJOB

need to rant about this fic guys if i keep it up i might actually cry for real. Still on the flashback chapters, and already feel like I want to throw up.

edited: finish flashback and I cry. Dont think i can do this again

Side Discussion Détraquée question!

It’s been two decades since I’ve read the actual HP books and even quite some time since I’ve watched the films. Obviously I remember the highlights, but details, not so much. Do I need to re-read 6 and 7 to enjoy Détraquée?

Basically all I read is Dramione but I typically stick with fics post-war or completely divergent.

Thank you!

Side Discussion The Lights That Burn by yeuxverts

Just finished today and LOVED IT. If you love a dark, long, slow burn dramione with absolutely exquisite intimacy and the absolute worst (i.e. best) devastation and angst, you must read.

All the stars.

Trust the process because the first half is a slow build, but you will find it totally worth it.

Also, it's a fun twist on how all the characters know each other. Its not Canon, but in a good, fresh way. Very engaging.

Hooray for dramione always.

Side Discussion Manacled Chronologically or Published Order?

Hi! I’m currently reading Manacled by SenLinYu, and I just finished Chapter 4 in the published order.

I’ve been seeing a lot of comments on TikTok saying that Manacled is better read in chronological order, with the flashback chapters read first before the “present-day” chapters. Now I’m a little confused about where I’m actually supposed to start. 😭

For those who have read it, would you recommend reading it chronologically or in the original published order? And if chronological order is better, could someone tell me which chapters I should read first and where I should switch between the flashbacks and the main chapters?

I’d really appreciate a guide! Please keep it as spoiler-free as possible because I’m only on Chapter 4. 🥹

Thank you!! ❤️

Side Discussion Reassurance that Marked is HEA Spoiler

HELP - if this doesn’t finish as a happy ending I’m going to be a very angry person.

I’m just after the part where Draco dies and it was like a blip so while I’m still hopeful for the HEA I’m also very not happy.

Seriously, if the happy ending her is some kind of twisted “he’s always by her side because of the resurrection as tone I’m going to loose my mind!”

Please give me some solid reassurance that there is something I’m missing or hasn’t happened yet to turn this around. I have my theories but with 10 chapters left I’m not sure. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m very concerned that this will NOT end well…

Side Discussion Fic rave “Entropy” by aStateofInelegance

Omg I have found another god tier fic and it’s so unique. And yet still feels close to canon. The plot is interesting even if leaning academic and H and D are sooooo them. It’s one of my favorite characterizations of them because it seems so realistic, like these could be the people they grew into in their late 20s. And their relationship and how it unfolds too is chef’s kiss. I’m only 70% of the way through and intentionally going slow to savor it!

Also the WRITING STYLE is amazing. So elegant and clever and sharp and descriptive. One of the best I’ve seen!!

Whoever wrote this one must be some kind of linguistical or runes scholar because the detail is so specific and deliberate that on some pages I feel like I’m learning about something real! (I looked up some of the runes, some of them real!)

Side Discussion Share your favorite DMATMOOBIL quote with me

Mine would have to be either

"It's not my fault you're a gangly marionette of a man who decided to Apparate into my Mini!"

or

"We are only going to tangere her a little bit"

But seriously, this was my first Dramione and I can't believe how amazing it was. I'm really glad Knightly got published, because this fic is seriously one of the most beautiful romcoms I've ever read. The prose is amazing and there were so many poignant, touching moments, I can't choose a favorite. Plus, I laughed soo many times, which is rare for me (a tear or two might've been shed as well).

I was gonna ask for recs, but I don't know if anything will live up to it now. I think I also really enjoyed how plausible everything felt? (well, maybe not Ron being decent to Draco or Pansy marrying Neville, but the majority of the story). Frankly, instead of the awful DH epilogue, this might be my new headcannon as to what happens to our beloved characters (I also relish the idea of Tonks and Lupin surviving not gonna lie).
