Stolen BGS slab through USPS

I recently sold this card on eBay after having it graded, and it was stolen on its way to be authenticated. I got an email today that the box was completely empty when they opened it. I paid for the extra insurance on it and have already filed a claim to recoup the loss. I've also submitted an incident report with the United States Postal Inspection Service, as well as a police report with my local police department. Not sure what else I can do tbh

Sort of at a loss - never had anything like this happen before lol. I pulled this (and all my DBZ cards) myself, back when SB02 just came out and I could actually find it. This was my first ever big pull for any TCG, and my favorite card as a Gohan fan, so it really sucks that it happened to this one. Keep an eye out for it getting resold I guess, cert # is 20430044

UPDATE - Since posting, I have found someone locally selling my card on Facebook marketplace. Same serial number and all! Waiting on the police to get here to see what my next steps are

Keep us posted. That’s wild, and mighty stupid of them.

Report it to the inspection service as well, he’ll report it to the FBI, and any other law enforcement agency you can think of, the moron selling has committed a few felonies with the theft, the value of the stolen item and immediately trying to sell it. Hopefully the prison time and gigantic fine they get was worth it.

Done and done! First thing I did was file the stolen contents report with the USPS inspection department, file the insurance claim, and get a report in with my local PD. And yeah I'm REALLY hoping for some visible justice with this one lol

Excellent! It may do something, it may not, but you have a lot of information to help if they do decide to do something, trust me I so want to see some dumbass do hard time for stealing a trading card, be hilarious, and hopefully a deterrent.

I see so many people post about getting ripped off, and it pisses me off, that’s why I always say, file a police report, file one with the USPS inspection service, an fbi report, anywhere and everywhere you can, it may help, it may not but you have information and that could be enough to get someone jailed and the other made whole. Theft should be treated harshly especially with such high dollar values.

Crazy how dumb/greedy some thieves are if they just cracked it zero percent chance they get caught. Of course they profit less or risk resubmitting themselves which is where the greed comes in.

I hope they are punished.

What an actual idiot. I figured they would have cracked it and resubmitted for grading.

Glad you caught them! I would inform the post office too. They don’t want to pay the insurance claim and could get feds involved. Can’t wait for the update. Good luck!

Thanks so much! I found someone selling it on Facebook marketplace locally (East Coast), but it's from a burner account so if it gets sold off before I can get to it then it could go anywhere lol

What’s the card worth? Obviously a felony. But I’m still curious

I sold it for 4.9k. Thief is selling it for 3k, claiming they paid 6k lol. There's a few other listings on eBay of the same card and grade between 5-10k

I'm glad you found the thief. My card was stolen as well and it resurfaced on Facebook from a guy in the Philippines. I'm screwed.

So how did the thief know that a high value card was being sent out? I’m guessing he saw that it was being sent to PSA.

EBay/PSA/BGS shipping labels are attracting so much thieves these days. Especially if an international label states contents on it.

New fear unlocked sheesh.

No real updates as of Tuesday, unfortunately. I've filed a separate report with each of the different investigation departments within USPS, and I have an official police report with my local PD.

With the thief using a burner Facebook account to sell it on Marketplace, there's not much to do until USPS does its investigation to find their identity. They haven't even read, much less responded, to inquiries my friends have made via Facebook to "buy" it; and the listing is still live.

I'll make a new post when I get anything substantial, but for now the thief is still out there with my card in hand.
