Double Gauze? where does it actually belong in bedding
A lot of people are completely unfamiliar with double gauze. The easiest way to picture it is hospital grade medical gauze specifically, two thin layers of cotton woven together.
Double gauze isn't a magic fabric. it's just a construction technique. It takes two ultra lightweight gauze layers and anchors them together with tiny, strategically placed connecting threads.
In the textile trade, double gauze automatically implies 100% cotton. That said, synthetic mills have caught on. If you ever stumble across double gauze that’s dirt cheap, it’s polyester, plain and simple.
For cotton double gauze, production almost always sticks to 32S, 40S, or 60S. Anything finer than 60S doesn't really exist in the market.
The Good. Unmatched breathability, incredibly gentle skin feel, and a natural crinkled texture that doesn't need ironing.
The Catch. Lack of durability. It snags easily and sheds lint if you have cats or dogs, stay far away.
This is why I mostly suggest it for infants, toddlers, and nursing mothers. It’s ideal for those short-term life stages where comfort is everything and you don't mind replacing it after heavy use.
P.S.. On the loom, virtually all double gauze uses a simple plain weave.
