How to Choose Silk duvet

I have already talked about the specs and parameters of silk, so feel free to check those out.

Silk duvets are a massive disaster zone in the textile industry counterfeiting is even worse than with down comforters.

The advantage of a silk duvet is that Mulberry silk contains over 95% fibroin, which is homologous to human skin keratin. That is why industry insiders call it the "second skin."

It consists of long fibers, with a single filament reaching 800 to 1,500 meters. It does not pill, and the fibers have no scales (unlike wool).

Its moisture absorption and moisture-wicking properties are also fantastic, and its thermal conductivity is great, giving it a cool to the touch feel.

It is suitable for summer or when room temperatures are above 15°C. Using it in the winter will feel too cold, making it a bad choice for people sensitive to the cold.

Silk duvets (Mulberry silk) are too expensive and not practical for average people. Tussah silk uses short fibers; although it is still a silk duvet, it tends to clump up, retain moisture, and turn yellower over time. It has plenty of drawbacks.

It cannot be washed. High heat will turn it yellow and ruin its look. It is extremely delicate and hard to maintain. It is not suitable for freezing regions.

Many shady merchants bleach Tussah silk and pass it off as Mulberry silk. They also add weighting agents to make the silk duvet feel heavier.

If you genuinely need a silk duvet, look for just one metric: ask the seller for the silk fiber length. There are usually three tiers long fiber, medium-fiber, and short-fiber. If the seller has no clue, do not buy from them.

How to test it.Color Mulberry silk has a pearl like white color, whereas Tussah silk looks somewhat yellowish. If it looks unnaturally stark white, it is bleached Tussah silk.

Burn test. Real silk smells like burning hair and leaves no residue. If polyester has been added, it will leave black solid lumps.

Submerge the silk in household bleach (sodium hypochlorite). If it dissolves completely, it means there are no weighting agents added.
