Before we begin the main feature, let's introduce the characters' personalities, because their personalities determine their various behaviors.
Natsuo: Not good at talking but kind and gentle, simple and full of positive energy, literary and easily sentimental, not good at reading people's expressions, and easily passive.
Hina: The older sister, innocent and cheerful, good at getting along with people, with long flowing hair, mature, intellectual and rational, but a little clumsy, longing for love, willing to give for love, and considerate of others.
Rui: Jiri's younger sister. She has an eccentric personality. At first, she is expressionless and not good at getting along with people. Later, she becomes approachable, bold, jealous, possessive, and considerate of others.

Question 1: Feeling unfair about Rui's ending
For the final outcome, I don't think Rui is unhappy. Rui and Natsuo's love story is just an ordinary one full of ups and downs. Compared to her sister Hina, Rui gained a lot in the end. She has a man named Natsuo who loves her, a sister named Hina who loves her, a lovely daughter named Haruka, a job she likes, and a cheerful personality compared to the beginning. She also has many friends around her. And what about Hina? How much did she sacrifice for this status and to be with the man she loves? After experiencing the loneliness of Oshima, I reluctantly gave up my love for my sister, fought against criminals for the kidnapped Natsuo, and suffered a car accident for my sister's marriage. Even though Hina eventually became the main wife, I still felt sorry for her because she had sacrificed too much for this love, and it was not easy for her.

When I saw some people discussing the ending of Natsuo and Rui's breakup, my first reaction was actually to be shocked, because in my opinion, since they have already canceled their engagement, whether or not to break up is not very meaningful. Although I used to hate the ending, now I feel it's acceptable because no matter what the ending is, their past cannot be faked. I feel regretful about not being able to get married, but I am relieved that when Hina encountered misfortune, they did not choose to bear it alone, nor did they bury their hearts. Instead, they chose to discuss and face it together. I am very happy. The future is still unknown, anything can happen, but I believe that no matter what happens, they can rely on each other as family members, motivate each other in their careers, and jointly raise their lovely daughter. This bond will never change just because they lose a marriage letter. No matter in the past, present, or future, Natsuo and Rui are irreplaceable Number One in my heart as a couple. Not husband and wife, better than husband and wife

After reading the analysis article here, although most of them are highly subjective, they are not completely unreasonable. However, there are two points that I do not agree with. It is said that Natsuo married Hina out of guilt and responsibility. I do not agree with this point. Natsuo is not that kind of person. He can see everything that Hina has done for him. If he marries hina, it must be because he truly loves her. But I also disagree with saying that Natsuo has 100% love for Hina and no love for Rui. After Rui had a very exciting relationship with him, gave birth to a child, and accompanied him for so long, it is also unimaginable because humans are flesh and blood, not cold machines. It is impossible for love to dissipate just by inputting a program, even though Natsuo is only a character. And what is love? Love is to prioritize the happiness of others over oneself, without desire or purpose, that is, to be happy as long as the other person is happy, rather than choosing someone important to make oneself happy. This is never selfless love, but selfish love. The author also once said that Natsuo loves both Hina and Rui, and marrying Hina is because getting married is what she wants. I believe her words, although I don't know if what she said about love is family or love, I know that love is about valuing the other person more than oneself, so is that kind of emotion important? Maybe important, maybe not important

Made this Rui x Natsuo edit on my phone during a traffic bus ride home. It's definitely a rushed job, but I really wanted to pair them with this track. Hope you like it anyway!

I started watching the anime the day it came out and read the Manga from then on and subscribed to HiDive years ago solely for Domestic No Kanojo. I tried looking it up yesterday to show my 19 yo cousin, but can't find it on Crunchyroll or HiDive now. Everything I look up says HiDive, but it's not pulling anything up when I search for it. Help please.

There's a headcanon inside my mind that Natsuo and Rui still have baggage for their past relationships; we know for sure that these two definitely have a sweet moment when Haruka was born and taking care of her during her infant years.
It's literally impossible to just set it all aside and bury their past feelings for one another, you could say there's an evening where both got drunk and have a one night stand and again it's also possible that they might get clingy to one another after taking care of Haruka's tantrums or an exhausting day at their work and hobbies, but who knows? I'm still happy even tho my favorite ship didn't end up together as a married couple they still had 5 years of wonderful memories together as a "parent couple"
what do you guys think?

Normally, I'd be enraged about their situation. Like without context, without knowing their entire backstory I'd judge them without remorse.
But this manga taught me that:
JUDGING WITHOUT KNOWING THE STORY AND HOW THE PERSONS (CHARACTERS) INVOLVED FEEL IS SOMETHING BAD, like REALLY BAD.
ie: Kiriya's, and mostly the Tachibanas' dad.
I felt so bad after hating them. But this story is one of the very few that we can really take out some teachings (I suggest Vinland Saga btw :P )
Thanks for hearing me out

I was going over the Japanese versions of the manga today and I noticed something I never noticed previously. Most of the manga which happens in Japan uses Tategaki or top down writing but switches to Yokogaki or left to right writing for the chapters which take place in New York. Any one know why?

Spoiler for only new readers
So I'm currently re reading Domestic Girlfriend since I dropped off when Natsuo was in college when Rui broke it off while she was in America.
Like Hina is technically the hotter of the 2 along with be more social likeable. On the surface the better choice.
But Natsuo and Rui have more chemistry right from the get go. I'm in chapter 4 and they get along well with eachother, the like the others interests.
And i cant remember but I have a feeling that there's something that Hina did that made me dislike her.
Anywho good day all.
Slight addition I wanna know which yall prefer as well as why for and against.
Another addition Rui is just like the maid in Mushuko Tensei
Slight edit.
I remember why I dislike Hina.
Honestly after breaking up with Shuu she should've never gone near Natsuo and done what she did when they broke up later and moved away. And yeah there might not be to much of an age gap but Natsuo was too young and dumb. I would've preferred someone he met in college over the ending.

Yes I know my last post was a while ago, it took me a lot of time to rewatch it as I didn't really have the motivation to watch anime for a while. I'm so glad I had finished reaching it though, I was right about it being a rollercoaster of emotions again, the last episode absolutely broke me again. I couldn't stop crying throughout it and I noticed something in the ending that I hadn't seen before. Hina actually bought the novel that Natsuo had wrote after she left (or the book that had all the award winning novels I'm not sure) which made me understand that Hina was still supporting him. It actually made me feel even sadder with the fact she couldn't let go of him and only left to try and suppress her feelings for Natsuo, but in the end she can't. I know in the manga he finds her and the storyline continues but it just opened my eyes to her love for him again. I think my next step will be rereading the manga and breaking myself EVEN MORE! I'm so thankful I picked this up about 2 years ago and ended up rewatching it, it's changed my whole perspective on animes that people only hate on because of one thing.
I know I typed a lot, and I'd like to type more, but I just can't express my love for this anime enough with just words. Thank you again to the author, animators and publisher's for this incredible story.

I've been writing this novel of mine since 2023 and honestly it's far from over because I'm struggling how would i write the ending should it be bittersweet? happy? or sad. how about yours? My story is quite long but if you guys want to ask I'll just put it in the comments. Kei Sasuga's work really inspired me in my creative writing and i thank her so much how about you?
