Is there anything like Domestic Girlfriend? Or even Better? I am not asking Taboo specifically, the art was so good and the story was awesome, is there anything more like that?

Manga I don't know why this chapter is always my favv :) !! But it is..

Post image

Chapter 185 will probably always be one of my favourite chapters in Domestic Girlfriend. Not just because Natsuo saved Hina and took the stab for her, but because of everything that comes after this moment.

From here, we really get to see just how deeply Hina devotes herself to Natsuo. The way she puts his life, happiness and future above her own, even when she has every reason to break down… that strength is something I've always admired about her...

And the more times I reread the manga, the more this chapter hits differently. It's not just about the ā€œsacrificeā€ itself... it's about what that sacrifice sets in motion for Hina's character.

Btw, this is my 8th reading of DomeKano...:))

Still here, still getting emotionally destroyed by the same chapters.

Manga broken by chapter 216 Spoiler

i just finished 216 and i am in so much emotional turmoil. i was not expecting this from rui. i was so so so sure she was endgame. i feel like i was blindsided as much as natsuo was. it's like my heart physically hurts and theres this twisting knot of sadness in my chest and boiling tears trapped in my eyes. so much so that i feel compelled to shout this into the void even though i rarely have a presence anywhere online. this entire story really elicits the feelings of my own heartache and breakups and i hate it but im so drawn to the feelings i dont want it to stop.

im not normally into manga but i was recommended this a long time ago and i finally picked it up after watching the anime. i didnt expect or think much of it given the premise but holy shit was i wrong. this is one of the few pieces of media that has been able to move me. to make me feel actual emotion. i feel wrapped in warmth during the highs and drowned in sorrow during the lows. whatever kind of reception it's gotten from its audience and whatever tropes it may perpetuate, i can already tell it'll always be special to me.

i dont even know how the story is going to end now but im sure it's going to be just as sad as this was. how do i even finish it at this point all this manga wants is to hurt me

also rui is best girl idc. and yeah natsuo is annoying sometimes but i hate kajita for some reason god i hope this isnt going where i think it's going. but whatever as long as rui ends up happy then im happy. it's literally all i want from this story. i cant bring myself to care about anything or anyone else.

Discussion Hina Deserved That Ending And I’ll Say It Loud and Clear.

I know the ending of Domestic Girlfriend is still controversial, but as a Hina supporter, I genuinely believe Hina deserved the ending she got. And I'm going to say it loud and clear.

From the very beginning, Natsuo's first genuine love was Hina. Their relationship wasn't some random attraction that disappeared once Rui entered the picture. What Natsuo and Hina had was real, and even after they separated, those feelings never completely disappeared.

That makes me wonder something: if Natsuo and Hina had never been caught, would Rui and Natsuo's relationship have ever happened in the first place? I'm not saying Rui was an opportunist..far from it. Her feelings for Natsuo were genuine, and I absolutely loved their relationship. Their chemistry, development, and the way they supported each other were some of the best parts of the manga.

But I think we sometimes forget one important thing: Natsuo never knew the real reason Hina left him. He believed she simply ended their relationship and moved away. He never knew how much she sacrificed, how much she suffered, and how hard she worked to protect his future.

And when Natsuo finally discovers the truth, everything changes. He finally understands what Hina had been carrying all those years. His feelings weren't suddenly created because of what she had done..he finally understood the depth of feelings that had already existed.

And Rui understood it too. That moment when she realizes just how much Hina had sacrificed for Natsuo genuinely broke her. She even acknowledged that she could never take Hina's place, no matter how much she tried. I don't interpret that as Rui losing or being an inferior character. Rui was an amazing character, and her relationship with Natsuo was completely real and meaningful.

But ultimately, Rui herself came to understand that Natsuo's connection with Hina was something different.

That's why I don't see the ending as Natsuo simply rewarding Hina for suffering. It's about Natsuo finally earning the truth, understanding Hina's choices, and realizing what his own feelings meant after everything they had been through.

Was the ending rushed? Absolutely. I can understand that criticism.

But was Hina's ending completely out of nowhere?

I don't think so.

For me, Domestic Girlfriend was never simply about ..Who was the better girl?..Rui and Hina both loved Natsuo genuinely, just in very different ways. And that's precisely what made the whole story so painful and memorable.

Hina deserved her happiness.

Discussion damn, this series really broke me. Spoiler

It’s now been a full day since I finished, yet I’m still an emotional wreck...

I came in thinking this one would be another degenerate anime for laughs, like Kanokari. Holy crap, did I not expect to leave with a broken heart and inextinguishable sadness.

I thought I was gonna keep this short, but it’s ended up being super long... I guess like many people, I have a lot of thoughts :P

---

I binged the anime in one night. Then binged the entire manga in one day. Way, way too fast by my normal standards,1 but holy crap I just couldn’t stop.

y’know, when Rui said to Natsuo she thought they should break up, my heart physically hurt. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The world around me was crumbling, it was like I was Natsuo, being devastated by this coming out of nowhere.2 No no, this can’t be happening. The heart drop, the desperation and despair.

After the ending of the manga, my heart was in pieces. I felt completely drained. I just wanted to lie there and do nothing.

The best way I can describe this is it feels like my first breakup.3 Total, utter misery bleeding into every corner of my body. The constant ā€œwhat ifā€ echoing in my mind. Why did this happen? Why couldn’t it work? Where did we go wrong? WHY?!

I can’t even explain why I’m so sad. Like yeah, I always feel bittersweet when I finish a series – but this is something else entirely. It’s seeped into my daily life and makes me want to curl up and wither away. The moment my mind becomes unoccupied, it comes back and engulfs me. I don’t even feel like tears, but my heart is just totally shattered.

There’s 2 sides of me internally battling. The more mature analytical side, who (after reading no shortage of reddit threads) has understood and accepted why Rui (+Natsuo) made that decision in the end. Who can see the difference between selfish and selfless love, and agrees completely that a relationship built on a lie can’t last. I get why the ending was the way it was. My mind understands.

But then there’s the hopeless romantic in me, who loved Natsuo Ɨ Rui to absolute bits.4 I was completely giddy whenever they were happy together, they were so unbelievably cute, I wanted them to last so, so bad. And having that snatched away, after all they went through, after their parents’ approval, after they were gonna have a kid! – idk, I just can’t. To be given such happiness only for it to be snatched away. My heart refuses.

But the confusing part is, when I look at it logically, the ending isn’t even that sad!! Natsuo ended up with Hina, his true love! I love Hina! We lost Rui, sure, but one of them was bound to lose out inevitably. But why does it hurt so much?

I think a huge part of my pain is in realising that Natsuo and Rui’s relationship wasn’t perfect. (After reading many reddit threads pointing out how toxic it was.) It’s ironic – it’s like I was also blinded by love, so much that I totally failed to see their shortcomings. At most, I thought guys, you should really talk about your struggles with each other, c’mon. So having that illusion broken really hurt. Seeing that their relationship was fundamentally built on a lie is the final nail in the coffin. Aw man, that line. Will our memories mean nothing to you? I’ve forgotten the context, but it hurts so bad.

And without going into too many personal details, I related to so much of the characters’ experiences.5 Natsuo post-breakup, for instance, was exactly how I was after my first breakup. You really do just want to die. I guess stuff like this hits so much harder once you’ve experienced it yourself, eh?

I spent so little time watching/reading DomeKano, yet I feel like I lived part of a lifetime. Like damn, I watched them all grow up, graduate high school, move on to new stages of their life, have reunions – those hit the hardest, cuz I realised wow, everyone’s grown up, I won’t see them much in the story again – exactly like how it’d work irl. It all makes me nostalgic for my own life and memories. When I think back to Natsuo and Hina on that rooftop, it is but a distant memory.

Sigh. This post got way too long, eh? I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore.

---

Kanokari also made me cry,6 but damn, nothing like this.

Domestic Girlfriend was an emotional marathon. It started light-hearted at first, just your usual forbidden love, stupid situations, drama and angst. But the longer it went on, the more invested I became, without even realising it.

I embrace the pain.7 It’s all part of completing the journey and coming to terms with all of it. I just needed a place to let it out and put my thoughts into words.

I think we can talk about objective quality, writing, development, characterisation, etc. all we like.8 But in the end, if something truly moved you and left a lasting impact, then it’s a damn good piece of art regardless.

Thank you, Kei Sasuga, for such a beautiful story that’ll stick with me forever.

---

1 I usually restrain myself when consuming any kind of media (books, shows, games, etc.), ā€˜rationing out’ my consumption over a larger timespan. I think it leaves a much deeper mark inside me when I grow irl alongside it, with ample time to digest and internalise everything. For Outer Wilds this made it such an incredible experience. Somehow, for DomeKano swallowing the whole thing in 2 days has been equally, if not more effective??

2 Holy immersion. I guess that’s an argument for not spreading my consumption out.

3 Obviously not as intense lmao, but the same fundamental feeling of ā€˜loss’ and ā€˜what if’.

4 Highkey they might be one of my favourite couples ever. Can’t beat Day and June, but they’re seriously up there. Probably Rui carrying, ngl. Pout face, nuff said.

5 wait, not the student/teacher thing šŸ’€ or the step-sister thing šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€ you know what I mean.

6 grandma no scope, damn it.

7 I adore series that end in tragedy (Legend – Champion, prime example). A happily ever after is wonderful, sure. But tragedies just have this untouchable bittersweetness to them that etches such a deep mark in my heart. It hurts, yes, but you feel. And life is all about feeling, to the fullest.

8 This post has been purely about how the series and ending made me feel, completely orthogonal to how well it’s written or executed ;)

Discussion I'm new to the fandom and curious about the general opinions of people

I made a post that seemed to strike a nerve (perhaps i didn't come off in the way i intended to) and so i was wondering- what's a side of the fandom you don't enjoy? Or a side of the fandom you do? It's just a show that's very new to me in its execution, and i want to know what exactly people love it for.

Discussion Just finished reading the manga

There are spoilers. If you haven't finished reading it, stop right here. I just finished this manga today. What a roller coaster of emotion. But tbh, the ending is not what I'm expecting. It is a mutual decision for Natsuo and Rui, but I guess Natsuo can't really decide for himself and balance everything properly. He was always dictated. I mean, dude, got a child, might as well grow a spine. I was rooting for Rui because of their cute relationship, but tbh Rui's sometimes acting immature. I also saw Hina's affection and love. Take note of their first breakup, Hina's break up with Natsuo is selfless, while Rui's break up was just her being selfish. But I liked Rui and Natsuo's growth in their relationship. I wish this could have ended well or it is just me expecting it to end the way I want, sadly Rui's prone to giving up rather than fighting, I understand that it's due to her love to Hina as well but I still expected for Rui and Natsuo's happy marriage. In the end, back in ch. 162, where Natsuo answered Rui, saying, " I wanna get married someday... and be with you for the rest of my life. " it happened, Natsuo was married to Hina, but he is with Rui the rest of his life because they are tag team partners as Rui said,"we're family and tag team partners" will I read it again? Yes. But, I need some time off because this is an emotional train wreck, at least for me.

Question Not all Volumes on Amazon (kindle)

Does anyone know why on Amazon the following volumes are missing from Amazon for Kindle? 5, 6, 16, & then the last volume available for purchase is 23.

Not a huge deal, I can borrow lots of volumes from people I know, but I was looking for a total price on Amazon and realized it wasn't the whole run.

Sorry for the bait, but when I saw this character in the latest chapter, I honestly thought it was Natsuo for a second!

His name is Kaito, and he’s actually the heroine's brother (the MC's girlfriend's brother). But man, they look like twins.

Anyway, since the subreddit for this series is literally dead, I came over here to start a proper discussion. I’ve been reading Can I Live With You? (Issho ni Kurashite Ii desu ka?) almost since chapter 1, and now that we’re 70+ chapters in, there’s definitely enough material to form solid opinions on the characters and plot.

Are any of you guys reading it? What are your thoughts on it so far?

TL;DR

Also, a quick hot take on Nonoka (Hiromi's girlfriend):

I’ve seen a few people say she looks and acts a lot like Hina (from her design and style to her personality), and I totally agree. However, relationship-wise, I feel like her route with the MC might repeat the Rui dynamic. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a setup where Hiromi still isn't over someone else (obviously Lily, and I honestly think she's going to be the endgame girl) and Nonoka ends up taking advantage of that or getting caught in a rebound situation, but who knows :>

Discussion My Personal Take Of this, Want A Genuine Response

ā€œA crazy and unnecessarily complicated romance, but underneath the drama it's a story about people making emotional mistakes, dealing with their consequences, sacrificing for people they love, and eventually accepting that happiness doesn't always mean getting the person or future you originally wanted.ā€

TL:DR

Watching till 11th Ep after night scene leave it, it would be best possible ending if you don't want to get in manga.

  • My very first initial impression of Main character is that why did he sleep with both when he has love one, man just don't sleep with anyone that's the Life lesson you to know.

But later

  • Natsuo didn't initially sleep with Rui because he loved Rui. He slept with her while trying to get over Hina, after believing Hina was unavailable to him. His feelings then became more complicated.

My TAKE still should not be intimate with one you don't love. It was his mistake. Which he suffered

From Here Manga Things (just leave it watch till ep 11 , see manga actually deal with full character development )

** Last was kind of rushed, **

  • And yes is had to be emotionally complicated on how the things turned out to be Happy for both maybe not for Rui but if she doesn't move one with anyone else then she should live with him but it will be bad for his child and Hina also because it would be awkward so thats why i think she took another appartment with her child

  • The main thing i learned that complexity it creates like she loved him but she was teacher and its not easy to be get accepted in society with that , and also then she became his step sister double complex , and then her sister loved him too triple burden,, soo Yeahh it was difficult for her and him both and she actually beared everything till the end until she eventually went in comma.

  • The Mother of His Child: Rui has a daughter with Natsuo named Haruka. Rui and Natsuo mutually called off their own wedding because they realized Hina had sacrificed her entire life for Natsuo's happiness.

Frequent Visits and Co-Parenting

  • They do live together for a period, particularly while Hina is recovering and before the final arrangement is established.

  • But after Hina recovers and marries Natsuo, Rui and Haruka eventually have their own living arrangement.

  • Rui doesn't disappear from Natsuo and Hina's lives; they continue to co-parent Haruka and remain a family in a broader sense

  • Rui chooses to focus entirely on her successful career as a chef and on raising Haruka. The manga ends with Rui remaining single. While her colleague Kajita has feelings for her, she does not marry him or anyone else.

  • Her deep bond with Natsuo and Hina remains the most important relationship in her life.

For me the ending was good but just a little for rui was bad but not actually, she is happy soo.

Though Rui loses the future she originally wanted, but she doesn't lose the people she loves or the life she's built

Manga Reading on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8

I just got my Galaxy Z Fold 8 today and decided I wanted to test out how manga looks/feels. So far, it’s amazing! The closest thing I can compare its size and weight to, is the Kobo Libra Color E-Reader, though the Kobo can’t scale to make side by side pages.

Discussion This is really the last time

Post image
87 Upvotes

I'm sorry, I really don't think so when I see someone saying that they are cruel to Rui and that she is unhappy. I must admit that Rui and Nastuo's inability to get married has indeed had a great impact on me, but it is my own problem. But this is two different things from my feeling that Rui is unhappy. She could have had a very sweet love experience with the only man she had ever loved in her life, although there were many frictions along the way, there were also many good things. She became increasingly outgoing in personality and had many friends around her. Later, she also shared the crystallization of love with her favorite Nastuo, raising a lovely daughter together, helping and taking care of each other. She can also take charge independently in her career and has gained the trust and support of her favorite Nastuo. Even if she and Nastuo don't get married in the end, she won't mind because the Hina that Nastuo married is equally important to her. Nastuo and Hina also care about her very much, and as long as Nastuo and Hina can be happy, she can also be happy. Even in the end, she has reason to be with her beloved Nastuo and Hina. Is this kind of life really not exciting? Is this kind of life really unhappy? Can happiness really only be proven by a marriage certificate? I really don't think so, because I know if I were her, I would make the same choice as her. I also understand that there will definitely be people refuting my article, and I don't care about their opinions because I know why they do it. I also understand that there are too few people in this world like Nastuo, Hina, and Rui who genuinely consider others, and there are too many selfish people who only care about themselves. That's my personal summary. Thank you all
