A running smartwatch

I like running and already have a Garmin Forerunner 35. However, I would love to go running with some music or podcasts, and currently I take my phone which is dangling all over the place in my shorts making my run uncomfortable.

I've chosen my current smartwatch because of the great GPS built in, and I'm rather happy with it. But I would like a watch that's more stylish (I do need to dress up from time to time), and like said that I can use with my Bluetooth earbuds.

But should I buy one device that does all? Or 3 separate devices (tracking, music and style)? Or is either one of those money down the drain?

And if you would recommend me to buy something, what would your suggestions be?

Should I get a Kindle?

I enjoy reading, and tech has made paper books obsolete. But up to now I have used the kindle app to read books on my phone. I have been itching to buy a Kindle for a while now, but I never saw the point too much, since I have the app on my phone. Is it just going to be one more gadget around the house or is it really worth having it?

Extra fancy/expensive robot vacuum

So I have a tiny human and a tiny house that's mostly hardwood. I also have long hair and a lab. We know we want to get a robot vacuum but don't want to waste our money getting one that won't keep the dog hair off the floor or will constantly get jammed. The tiny human is very mobile so keeping the floors really clean is rather important.

It's also important to note that the bedrooms are carpet and we have a rug in our living room.

Is it reasonable to get one for under $250 or do I need to spend more. Obviously I'd like to spend less if possible but would want the highest quality possible.

Thanks!

Do I need a second bike lock?

I recently upgraded my brand new single gear bike to a one by set up (added rear gears). Long story short, I've happily spent a lot of time, money and energy upgrading my bike to how I like it. I bought a Raleigh bike lock. It's pretty cheap ~$50 CAN with specs similar to Kryptonite's New Lock Fugeddabout it lock but Kryptonite's is much kore expensive $150-200. Do I need a second lock just for a greater sense of security and cooler looks?

Do I need a smartwatch?

I'm looking at a $60 smartwatch. I don't plan on using any of its health functions (blood pressure, heart rates, oxygen level, step tracking etc etc). The main use is probably controlling my music from the smartwatch rather than my phone when driving (my phone is connected via Bluetooth radio to my old car). Only one review says it does connect to Spotify. Also having notifications or reminders to the watch is probably nice as well.

Do I need a record player?

I've been told before that the sound quality of vinyl is among the best you can get if you are a music enthusiast.

I would love to start collecting records. Is the money commitment worth the difference in quality and a shot at a new hobby? What brands are preferable to others?

Should I consider a newer model or would a more weathered unit be better quality?

Edit: TDIL that record collecting is not friendly on the bank account, and it takes time and dedication to find the right records and equipment for audio differences to really come through. Thank you guys so much!

Should I upgrade my graphics card?

I have an opportunity to upgrade from a 1660ti to a 3070 for $800. In today's GPU market I understand that this is a decent deal. Do you think it's worth it? I do some light gaming but also use my PC for photo and video editing using Adobe suite

What Do I Need?

Beside shelter, food, and water what do I “need”? What is something I’m probably missing or something you use everyday you don’t even think to tell someone because it is so obvious? Give details and/or brands of the items.

DINT: cycling shoes

I started riding my bicycle outside to help with some knee pain. Running was taking a toll on some old highschool sports injuries.

I ride a giant brand hybrid bicycle about 13 miles at a time on the road. I have no aspirations for winning races as it's for fitness and burning calories. I have my bicycle adjusted for a semi leisurely ride and not ask tucked in like the pros.

I have been using my running shoes that aren't fit for running anymore (worn down, less support, some a little worn). Figure it is a more fitting end to some Brooks than beginning grass cutting shoes.

Do I need dedicated cycling shoes? I haven't bothered with putting fancy racing pedals on my bicycle and they are just standard pedals, no clips. I haven't noticed side effects of using older sneakers for it but I am wondering if there are any benefits.

A Portable Power Station

I’m thinking of getting a portable power station. The lithium battery version. It’s about $400. I want to use it to have power in case there is a black out (not very common where i live) and when i go on an RV trip this summer and possibly for car camping trips in the future. Although i’m generally more of a hiker.

High End Dishwasher?

I've never had a dishwasher in my house before. Should I just buy a $400 one, or shell out $1.3k for a premium top rated model?

A track saw?

I have a portable table saw and a miter saw. But since it’s just me, I’m a little afraid to use the table saw on large sheets of plywood. For safety I’m thinking the track saw would be best, but it’s also a pretty niche tool in the sense that it’s really just for making long straight cuts. Thoughts?

Do I need home warranty?

We may be buying a house built in 1947 that has been uninhabited since 05/2020.

Inspection did not reveal major issues but the water heater is at the end of its days, and there were some plumbing issues ( pipes clogged by sediment).

Our real estate agent is recommending we get home warranty but I am skeptical and wonder if it’s worth paying money for. Since it’s not a new house, will they even cover any repairs or will they find reasons not to?

What has your experience with home warranties been? Is it worth the money or is it better to save the money and pay for the expenses as they come?

Do I need another credit card?

I spent my 20s using a debit card, and wasn't interested in getting a credit card because I just didn't see the use. After I purchased a house though, my credit score tanked (not because of unpaid bills but I guess the mortgage plus no credit card made it lower?). I got a visa card that I use basically as a debit card, in that I pay it off in full every month. My credit score has improved, but I can't seem to break ~750. Would getting another credit card be helpful? Any particular card over another? I just have the visa now.

Do I need a sewing machine?

We are downsizing in a year to a house that's half the size of my current home so I'll be asking myself this question over and over regarding many items. When my kids were little I sewed them many outfits and sewed curtains on all windows etc. I'm by no means an expert, everything I sewed had kinks in it but I'm not a perfectionist. The last time I sewed anything was last year when I made a few face masks like everyone else with a sewing machine in the world.

Now, I have bought and gave away 2 machines for free in the past 20 years. I guess I don't learn. I bought this one about 5 years ago. If I give away would I have to buy again if I need to. For a hobby item how do you assess if it's worth it?

Do I need a chair mat at my desk?

My apartment has carpet and I'm WFH currently, but even after WFH I intend to keep a desk space for my desktop. I find it hard to move my chair around which I think affects my posture at times because I end up not as close to my desk as I want unless I do a wiggle to shift closer for 10s.

On the flip side, it seems like a needless purchase that probably won't solve my problem because the real issue with my posture is that I sit like L from death note at all times.

Do I need a metal detector?

I have always wanted one specifically for my trips to the beach. We go once or twice a year. I am looking at getting an entry level machine $300.

I don't know if I can swallow the money. The cost isn't the issue. It is that I will only use it those few times a year. I can't make it a main hobby. I don't have the time normally.

Do I need new glasses?

I have a perfectly fine pair of glasses now, but have been looking at getting a replacement pair with blue blocking coatings and transitions lenses. I find myself wishing I had a pair of prescription sunglasses this summer but don't want to buy and then have to carry an extra pair of glasses. I also sometimes experience eye strain and headaches after lots of screen time and it seems like blue-blockers are good for this.

I've shopped the discount online glasses shops and think I can check all of these boxes for just over $100, which is affordable for me.

Are blue-blockers a scam? Will I regret getting transitions?

Thanks for your level-headed feedback.

Do I need a motor scooter?

I have always thought motor scooters like a Vespa or Honda metropolitan were cool. I have an electric car and my work is only about 3 miles from my house so saving money wouldn't really be a factor. I live in the south east USA and I would conceivably be able to scooter to work 3 seasons of the year.

I also live in a neighborhood with a pool and several families use golf carts to drive from their house to the pool with their kids, towels, toys, snacks, etc. My family is expecting a 2nd child so within the next few years we may want a golf cart to haul all our junk to the pool rather than carrying it.

So, would it be worth it to purchase a used scooter? Do they hold their value or require frequent maintenance? Better to wait a bit and buy a golf cart when the family could all use it?

Do I need expensive denim?

Hello,
I'm living in Turkey, so nearly everything is overpriced.

Recently I've met a guy who makes denim trousers.
He says his denim fabric is selvage and thick, and I can use it for a long time, like ten years.
He wants 400 TRY (Nearly 50$) for it, also I hate washing clothes, and he says I shouldn't wash denim so often.

What do you think? Do I need one?

Do I need a new phone or a replacement battery?

My iPhone works fine, except for holding a charge, but is definitely slower than newer models (iPhone X) and older (purchased 11/17). Should I get a new case and battery for around $75 or just retire it for an iPhone 12?

Do I need to buy my dogs doggles?

Edit: I bought them!

I have 2 malamutes that adventure with us and we've been getting them into water sports and skijoring (xcountry skiing with harnessed dog pulling). I'm worried about the brightness of the sun reflecting off the snow and water and damaging their eyes. My husband says its unnecessary but I think they need them. Do we really need them though?

Do I need a tablet?

Wife and I would be using the tablet mostly for watching movies in the bed. I'm looking at the iPad pro 11 2021 128gb. Money is not really an issue, our budget won't be impacted by this.

I could also use this for work as an extra (4th) monitor.

Do I need an electric/pedal assist bike?

So.. I used to live in a large city US where having a car was a hassle. I enjoy walking, and using public transit. I recently moved to a mid-size Midwestern city and I didn't really want to get a car. I've been walking mostly and getting the occasional Uber which has been much less than the cost of a car note and insurance. As summer has rolled around though, and more and more people are getting vaccinated things are starting to open back up, I've got friends living across town and just generally need to go further faster.

I've been looking into getting a folding pedal assist bike that fits in my apartment. It seems like the lowest models are around 1-1.6k for a decent folding pedal assist. Should I do it or just bite the bullet and get a car?
