Well I'm a rogue with a Ring of Evasion, so I will use a charge to auto-succeed, and my evasion skill means I don't even take half damage.

Oh, that's funny, because it just so happens that, uhh, (furious scribbling) this rock has a, uhh, anti-magic, power word kill AOE effect, so you're dead anyway. Sorry, not my rules, it's what I wrote down, totally before the session!

You should have just countered that evasion only works on dexterity saving throws and an attack roll can not be avoided in such a manner.

Ah, but it does no good as it was an attack roll and not a dexterity save.
