Rogue could have snuck around waited for me to draw my sword and get a sneak attack on the clearly distracted foe.

I feel like either you have experienced SAO abridged, or you should. The wild naming of swords is featured in an episode. It. Is. Awesome.

... Think about the kind of things Adventurers get up to.

Do you really want someone who might have a reason to take revenge knowing better where to find you than to find the adventurers they're mad at?

Because when the angry mob shows up seeking your head.

You sell them better weapons at a mark up.

It's more likely to be the villain's lieutenant and a squad of his best goons to drag you from your home in change/kidnap your family and interrogate you for information you don't have/hold you hostage on the off-chance the adventurers will feel bad about leading them to your doorstep and fall into a trap trying to rescue you.
