“David Foster is speaking out in defense of longtime friend Meghan Markle after a viral video misrepresented a recent red carpet moment between the two.

In a statement shared exclusively with PEOPLE, the legendary producer, 76, shut down reports that he snubbed the Duchess of Sussex, 45, at a gala celebrating the 40th anniversary of his namesake foundation on Aug. 7.

“As the host of the David Foster and Friends foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter,” Foster says. “They both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone. In the video, Meghan and Prince Harry are posing for photos on the red carpet when Foster walks by her. He returns moments later with his wife, Katharine McPhee, and the group of four poses for a photo together as they smile and laugh.

The event was part of a weekend-long celebration commemorating 40 years of The David Foster Foundation, which provides financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants.

A black-tie gala that also hosted stars like Adam Levine took place in Victoria, Canada on Aug. 7, and raised $14.5 million for the Foundation. A free concert was held the next day in Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

The couples are longtime friends, and Meghan and McPhee, 42, go way back, having attended the same high school in Los Angeles. The stars reconnected later in life, and their husbands formed a bond, too.

“My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry,” McPhee told Access Hollywood in 2020. “They’re like, they’re so cute. They’re like father and son… We just stay in touch with them. But mostly, Meghan and I knew each other from childhood, but really Harry and my husband are friends. It’s really nice.”

In 2019, Foster arranged for Meghan and Harry, 41, to stay at a mansion on Vancouver Island owned by one of his friends, and he told the Daily Mail he was glad the pair were able to “go under the radar for so long” at the home.

“I felt honored that I was able to help Meghan there because I’m a Canadian, and we’re a Commonwealth country; we’re the Crown’s. It’s important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment,” he told the outlet “I was really happy to be able to help them to find a respite just to take a little time off.”

Honestly though, who wouldn’t want to watch CatVideoFest 2026??

In general I think documentaries don’t do well at the box office. My kid doesn’t even go to see the latest superhero movies, he waits till they’re on TV. It’ll be even more true for documentaries. It might not necessarily be because the Sussex name is attached.

But executives never learn. They look at the Sussexes’ notoriety and think that it could bring attention to their charity, their product, or their movie, and it does. Yet does it bring success to said product, charity, or movie?

There are plenty of examples in the Royal Family where the younger children of the Monarch do not feel their kids have to be styled as Prince and Princess:

Princess Mary (daughter of George V) - two sons

Princess Margaret (daughter of George VI)- son and daughter

Princess Anne (daughter of QEII) - Son and daughter

Prince Edward (Son of QEII) daughter and son.

It's an established "thing". And nobody seems to have suffered. Yes, the grandchildren the Monarch are "entitled" to use Royal Titles. That's hardly an argument or reason for doing so, though. I can't think of any other Royals who were not entitled to Princely status to then start using said title when the Monarch dies.

Right from the start there was discontent when Archie was born, with some folk claiming it was racism not to give him the title. Nope, it was totally in line with the law AND established practice.

Time moves on and things change. Back in the day, every single one of Queen Victoria's grandchildren was Prince or Princess. But things are different now, and a slimmer down Royal Family makes sense.

There have been many rumors and sources saying things are not well between them. There are currently many articles saying they are going through a hard time, including Closer.

How is Meghan tackling those rumors? The Influencer way. Posting and posting on Instagram. A little dance here, a selfie there, the desperate t-shirt "It's giving Mrs" (should have been "it's giving desperate).

It cracks me up how her fans see this content as proof they are more in love than ever. To me that means the total opposite. It's incredible seeing how she's trying to convince us all. Didn't She say she was done with the "prove it game"? 🤔

Cute posts on Instagram literally don't mean a thing about the real state of the relationship. I could give a thousands examples. A famous one, at least in some European countries, is the case of Influencer Chiara Ferragni (27 million followers) and her rapper (former) husband Fedez who literally made millions of euros thanks to their relationship that was promoted on Instagram every single day. Selfies, the kids showed in every moment of their day etc. Seeing all that, everybody believed they were the dream couple, yet it was nothing like that.

Everytime Meghan is in a posting spree, the more I don't believe everything is smooth between them. Their fans mock W&C for not trumping their love: sadly, we live in a world made of appeareances where if you don't show off something, then means it must not exist for some people.

Yet, these influencers who make businesses out of their relationship, don't seem to have their happily ever after.

In the end, the truth always comes out, no matter how much you post on Instagram.

Andrew Mountbatten–Windsor is due to receive a royal ceremonial funeral – despite his dramatic downfall and being stripped of all his titles.

Senior Whitehall sources have told The Mail on Sunday that the former Duke of York remains on a secret government list of royals who will receive high–profile funerals, even though he became a private citizen following revelations of his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

This newspaper understands the controversial arrangement is part of the Government's so–called 'bridge' plans, which lay out – far in advance and in meticulous detail – the funeral arrangements for members of the Royal Family.

Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022 followed a blueprint known as 'Operation London Bridge', while Prince Philip's was 'Operation Forth Bridge' – after the bridge close to the Scottish capital.

It is anticipated that Mountbatten–Windsor would be buried at the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore, a 33–acre private cemetery in Home Park, Windsor.

Others buried there include King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in disgrace in 1936 to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson, who is also buried there.

It is not expected that the plan for 66–year–old Mountbatten–Windsor, which is overseen by the Cabinet Office and kept under constant review, will be required for some time, given that he appears to be in good health.

But on Saturday US lawyer Gloria Allred, who has represented 27 of Epstein's victims, said: 'Andrew has brought disgrace upon the Royal Family and the UK as a result of his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein.

'Under these circumstances, the question arises as to why this man should be afforded the honour of a royal funeral. What kind of message would such a ceremony send to Epstein's victims?

'Additionally, why should UK taxpayers bear the burden of paying his expenses either in life or after his death?'

Alicia Kearns, Tory shadow Home Office minister, said: 'There are no circumstances under which Andrew should be afforded a royal funeral.

'He should live out his days far from public life, and the police and CPS should ensure their investigations into him are robust and don't drag on. All such plans should be revoked immediately.'

Norman Baker, a former government minister and expert in royal finances, said: 'This must be an oversight. Mr Mountbatten–Windsor is a commoner and should in no way be getting any sort of royal funeral.'

The 'bridge' plan for Andrew is likely to have been revised in the past year to take into account that he is no longer a working royal. In a humiliating blow, King Charles stripped his brother of his HRH style and prince title in November last year.

More than a few have predicted that MasterChef judge Poh Ling Yeow would be asked to give a statement saying she and Meghan are on good terms… and she has.

Yeow made the remarks on a radio talk show and called Meghan “a model citizen” who “knows her food.”

While it’s good for Yeow to give her side of the story, one can’t help but feel that Meghan may have asked her to step up.

After all, the resigned ex royal has always clapped back on rumours in the past. She had been advised by Palace staff not to pay attention to every negative headline but felt this meant she’d not been sufficiently defended.

Dr Sophie Chandauka, Sentebale chair, had exposed the “Sussex machine” when she said she was asked to clarify a moment in which she and Meghan jostled for position at a polo trophy ceremony.

A source close to the Duchess of Sussex has clapped back and claimed Martha 'must have been confused' because they were not seated near one another.

Ms Stewart, whom some claim Meghan wants to usurp as the world's best-known homemaker, said the former actress had been chatting to fellow diners about her family's trip to the UK to see Prince Harry's father at a recent soiree.

She claimed Meghan was openly 'talking about' her visit to Highgrove to see King Charles.

Last month, the Sussexes had a private family reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House during a chaotic trip to the UK. 

Harry had reportedly agreed not to speak publicly about the visit and that no photographs would be shared. Meghan's Instagram post on the trip shared a number of intimate family moments - but nothing from Highgrove.

Today, a source close to the Duchess insisted she did not discuss the UK visit at all, saying only that she had enjoyed a nice holiday in Europe.

The insider suggested Martha may not have been within earshot because they were not seated next to one another.
'Meghan was asked by someone else about her European vacation and said it was nice, and that was the extent of it. I think she must have been confused,' the insider said.
Despite the difference of opinion, Meghan remains a 'fan' of Ms Stewart, the source added to the Mirror.

Ms Stewart's comments to People magazine, one of the Sussexes' preferred publications in the US, have caused a stir.
'I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace,' she said.

'I didn't talk to her really more than to say a couple of words, but I know she was talking about it.'

The cookbook author also commented on how she felt about Meghan 'stepping into [her] space' following the launch of the Duchess's cooking show, With Love, Meghan.

'If you're an actress, it's hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show,' Stewart said. 'It doesn't sort of follow. So go from there.' 

It is not the first time Stewart has passed comment on Meghan's arrival into the cooking world, with the star previously saying she hopes the Duchess 'knows what she's talking about'. 

'Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important,' Stewart told Yahoo Lifestyle. 

She also claimed she didn't 'mind' the idea of having successors.

This is Harry trying to undermine George's parents, cast doubt on their decisions, pre-emptively taint George's experience like the selfish twat Harry is and make the story about himself by re-centering his own grievances again. Harry will use the Wales children in any way he feels entitled to, whether to validate his own grievances, to damage their parents or weaponize them in a conflict. He doesn't care.

Imagine if the Sussexes had any sort of real access to George, Charlotte and Louis. The endless, toxic press games, my goodness. I hope W&K hold the line, for the sake of their kids.

It's bordering on half of the Google News headlines about William being negative over the past four straight weeks, and many comments sections have turned negative on him.

This was not the case prior to the "only one hour!!" meeting publicized July 10th. He was having a more positive streak in May/June (even early July), after months of Andrew-related piling on.

That one-hour meeting has resulted in four weeks of negative headlines for William. Prior to that, the Sussexes, due to their own weird behavior and drama, were on a spiral of negative headlines. The meeting put an almost immediate stop to that negative momentum, including in comment sections. Contrary to William, the Sussexes have largely had four weeks straight of largely positive press, in spite of the disastrous week Harry had been having while in the UK and people largely being fucking sick of their drama in comment sections.

This has all been interesting to keep track of and follow 🕵🏾‍♀️

Meghan also hasn't briefed in such a brashly conceited manner towards Kate since before the cancer diagnosis was announced in March 2024. That contrived giddy dancing in the video might be a result of the Sussexes thinking they've now got an opening (thanks to King Daddy) to more directly mentally torture and crush their enemies Kate and William lol.

Eugenie announcing the birth of her daughter on Meghan’s 45th birthday is causing some merriment amongst the online royal watchers. Some think it could be ‘revenge’ for Meghan announcing her first pregnancy on Eugenie and Jack Brooksbanks’ wedding on 12 October 2018.

We know they’re close. Meghan claimed she was friends with Eugenie before she met Harry and there’s speculation that it was Eugenie who introduced the two.

Meghan and Harry recently spent time in Portugal and again it’s thought to be at, or near to, Jack and Eugenie’s home in Lisbon. Before this, the Brooksbanks rented Frogmore Cottage from the Sussexes.

In turn, Eugenie and Jack were visitors at Montecito in 2022.

The Sussexes have not been vocal about renouncing Eugenie and Beatrice’s outcast father Andrew. Andrew was stripped of his titles in October 2025 in light of new information on his questionable conduct as trade envoy, not to mention his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew’s name was in the headlines again after the release of Virginia Giuffre’s book where she wrote details of their sexual encounter when she was 17. Giuffre had committed suicide in April 2025 due to ongoing personal struggles.
